A Collection of Fashion Accessories
made from Sustainable Solutions
ITC AWARENESS
GOAL
“Replace 75% of ITC’s global
accessories production with
sustainable solutions by 2020”
ITC AWARENESS
MISSION
“Make fashion accessories with the best
social conditions and lowest environmental
impact a TRUE alternative, by making
them Fashionable (trend), Affordable
(price) and Available (minimums).”
“ITC Accessories is the FIRST one-stop-shop in the world for all types of
low-impact fashion accessories.
A truly comprehensive offering that provides large retailers and brands a full
range of sustainable solutions with third party
certification for virtually all the product categories within fashion accessories.”
Feico van der Veen, CEO ITC Accessories
The ITC Awareness Collection has been
developed by ITC Accessories to provide
retailers and brands with true low-impact
solutions for their fashion accessories.
It took more than 3 years to develop these
sustainable solutions, during which extensive
research has been done to offer low-impact
solutions based on a solid, informed and
reliable supply chain.
This research is ongoing; more materials and
product categories will be available in the
near future and every step of the supply
chain will be improved for lower impact.
It will keep improving, but there are now no
more excuses for waiting to replacing
conventional materials with low-impact
alternatives from the ITC Awareness
solutions.
ITC Awareness is not a concept. It’s real, it’s available and it’s ready to market!
ADVANTAGES
• Compared to cotton crops, hemp
requires the lowest amount of input
and has the lowest amount of
environmental impact.
• Hemp’s tensile strength is eight times
stronger than cotton fiber.
• Fabrics made from hemp are
hypoallergenic, non-irritating to the
skin, naturally anti-microbial providing
resistance to mold, mildew, and
bacteria without chemical finishes.
• Hemp is naturally UV resistant and
does not degrade in salt water.
SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR
Normal Cotton | Acrylic | Wool
SUSTAINABLE CLAIMS
High-yield crop that produces
significantly more fibers per acre than
cotton. It requires no pesticides, crowds
out weeds without herbicides, controls
erosion of the topsoil, and produces
oxygen. It is a renewable resource that
can be cultivated in as little as 100 days
and is the world’s most versatile fiber.
Hemp vs. conventional cotton:
• 400% stronger.
• 200% more fiber in the same area of
land.
• 100% reduced acidification potential.
• 78% reduced blue water consumption.
AWARE®
HEMP
ADVANTAGES
• Organic Cotton is health-friendly and
environmentally friendly, unlike its
conventional counterpart.
• Organic Cotton can rightly be called the
most skin-friendly, most soothing, and
most harmless natural fiber.
• Aware®
is ITC Accessories’ own brand.
SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR
Normal Cotton | Acrylic | Wool
SUSTAINABLE CLAIMS
Compared to two independent studies of
conventional cotton, organic was found to
have:
• 46% reduced global warming potential.
• 70% less acidification potential.
• 26% reduced eutrophication potential
(soil erosion).
• 91% reduced blue water consumption
(water withdrawn from groundwater or
surface water bodies).
Aware®
Organic Cotton yarn
and fabrics are made from 100%
organic cotton which has been
grown in an environment where
no pesticides, chemical
fertilizers, or herbicides have
been used.
Aware®
Hemp yarn and fabrics
are extracted from the stem of
the hemp plant, grown
organically by nature using all
natural ingredients: compost,
animal manure and available
rainfall.
AWARE®
ORGANIC COTTON
ADVANTAGES
• LOWEST impact solution you can get:
Post-Industrial, Pre/Post-Consumer -
100% circular!
• As some Recover®
yarns are made from
cotton cutting waste, very fine count
yarns can be made and retain strength.
• Recover®
PCT yarns made from
Pre/Post-Consumer garment waste
offer greater color control than other
recycled cotton yarns.
SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR
Virgin Cotton | Acrylic | Wool
SUSTAINABLE CLAIMS
• 15,000 liters of Water saved per kg of
Recover®
fiber produced compared to
cultivation and dye-processing of virgin
cotton.
• Over 20kg of CO2
production is
prevented per kg of Recover®
fiber
produced compared to cultivation and
processing of virgin cotton.
• Reduces the need for landfill space.
• Reduces pressure on virgin resources.
• RPET used in Recover®
stops plastic
from polluting land and oceans.
• Recycling a pound of PET saves
approximately 12,000 BTU’s.
Recover®
is mostly made from
post-industrial cutting scraps
and is a brand of Hilaturas Ferre
(Spain), who have been recycling
cotton textile waste since 1947.
RECOVER®
ADVANTAGES
• LOWEST impact solution you can get:
Post-Consumer / 100% circular!
• There are already polyester bottles in
existence; it makes sense to re-use
some of these bottles!
In the United States, more than 42
billion bottles of water (only water!)
were produced in 2010.
• Aware®
rPET polyester has a 50% lower
carbon footprint than organic cotton
has a 75% lower carbon footprint than
virgin polyester.
• Aware®
is ITC Accessories’ own brand.
SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR
Virgin Polyester | Nylon
SUSTAINABLE CLAIMS
• Reducing the need for landfill space.
• Reducing pressure on virgin resources.
• Stops plastic from polluting land and
oceans.
• Uses between 33% to 53% less energy,
54.6% fewer CO2
emissions.
• Recycling a pound of PET save
approximately 12,000 BTU’s.
Aware®
Recycled Polyester yarn
and fabrics are 100%
regenerated from post-consumer
PET bottles.
Fashion Accessories created
from recycled polyester can be
recycled again and again with no
degradation of quality, allowing
us to minimize waste.
AWARE®
RECYCLED PET
ADVANTAGES
• LOWEST impact solution you can get:
Post-Consumer / 100% circular!
• Aware®
rWool usaves nearly 11 kg of
CO2
per kilogram of wool yarn. By
re-using existing colorful clothing, no
environmentally unfriendly toxic
washing or dyeing processes are
required and more than 500 liters of
water per 1 kg of yarn are saved.
• Carrier yarn is made from recycled
polyester and is dope dyed (saves water,
reduces energy and avoids pollution).
• Aware®
is ITC Accessories’ own brand.
SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR
Virgin Wool | Acrylic
SUSTAINABLE CLAIMS
• Reducing the need for landfill space.
• Reducing pressure on virgin resources.
• If every Briton* purchased one item
made from recycled wool a year it would
save:
- 371 million gallons of water
- 480 tonnes of chemical dyes
- 4,571 million days of an average
family's electricity needs
*Source: UK Government.
Aware®
Recycled Wool yarn and
fabrics are made from 100% post
consumer garments in a
completely vertically integrated
recycling unit, with more than 40
years of experience in recycling
and with state of the art
open-end spinning machines
from Europe.
Our factory has developed local
social and environmental
initiatives and is empowering
