This document discusses a study investigating the mechanical properties of recycled plastic in polymer concrete. The objectives are to examine the effect of plastic waste on polymer concrete's mechanical properties and durability, and determine the optimum plastic waste mix. Testing was done on samples containing polypropylene, high-density polyethylene, and polyethylene. Results showed the three plastics were suitable for construction materials as compressive strength, flexural strength, and water absorption met standards. The recycled plastic reduced waste while not using natural resources. Further testing on additional durability was recommended.

2. PROBLEM STATEMENT
• The waste is not bio-degradable, as in the case of
plastics, and the nature cannot absorb it.
• Plastics take about 450 years to break down.
• Most of this waste was buried in municipal land
without any used and burned in landfills.
• Open dumping sites : required high maintenance
costs apart from causing the value of the
surrounding real estate.
3. OBJECTIVE
To investigate the effect of plastic waste
towards mechanical properties of polymer
concrete
To investigate the effect of plastic waste
towards durability of polymer concrete
To determine the optimum mix of plastic waste
to be use in polymer concrete.
4. SCOPE
• Polypropylene (PP)
• High Density Polyethylene
(HDPE)
• Polyethylene (PET)
Type of
plastic used
• Compressive strength
• Flexural Strength
• Water absorptionTesting
22. CONCLUSIONS
• Regarding to result, 3 types of recycled plastic are
suitable for use in construction materials.
• The potential production of these components and
their cost is conditioned absolutely by the possibility
of obtaining the main raw material.
• they reduce plastic waste that causes pollution,
instead of using up natural resources.
23. RECOMMENDATION
• It can be mix as a aggregate in a concrete.
• Size of plastic waste should be graded.
• Add another durability to support a data.
