1. Beauty
Meets
Fashion
StyleCon is beauty and style’s
answer to Comic-Con. Conceived by
Newport Beach attorney Robyn Grant,
far right, and Corona del Mar marketing
professional Irene Martino, it launched
last year drawing 1,500 people and rave
reviews. Open to the public, it offers
keynote speakers, beauty treatments,
and the chance for style brands and
digital influencers to connect. With new
sponsors such as Microsoft, the women
will take their show on the road. Next
stop: New York.—julie gallego

Irene We didn’t
grow up in the age
of computers and
mobile devices.
We’re baby boomers
and had to educate
ourselves in social
media.
Robyn We both had
vigorous business
careers. StyleCon is
a chance to put those
business skills to
work in a new, more
creative way.
Irene My teenage
daughter inspired
me. I noticed she
was spending more
time watching beauty
and fashion video
bloggers teaching
her how to dress
and apply makeup.
Robyn A pair of
skinny jeans and
black T is beautifully
reinvented paired
with some great
Tom Ford heels
and sunglasses.
Irene We’re
inspired by the
young people
we meet who want
to make something
for themselves.
They understand
that they must create
their own destiny.
Robyn Keep trying.
Not everything
succeeds. It takes
time to work out
the wrinkles in any
endeavor, especially
when your business
is experience-driven.
