• According to CNN on August 28, 2014;
• The Boston Marathon Bombing of 2013
happened on Patriots Day during the
Boston Marathon in Boston,
Massachusetts.
• Over 264 people were injured and 3
people were killed in the bombing.
• Two bombs were set off near the finish
line 12 seconds apart from each other.
3. The Culprits
• Tamerian Tsnarnaev (on the left) was
shot and killed during a shootout car
chase on April 19th. (CNN, 2014)
• Dzhokhar Tsnarnaev (on the right) was
found in Watertown, Massachusetts
under a boat that same day. (CNN,
2014)
• Azamat Tazhayakov, Dias Kadyrbayev,
and Robert Phillipos were charged in
helping the Tsnarnaev brothers by
hiding evidence. (CNN, 2014)
4. Culprits Motivation
• While the two culprits were of Muslim
descent, they were not part of Al
Qaeda. They were actually part of a
drug gang and the attack was ordered
by Biniam “Icy” Tsegai. (ABC News,
2014)
• The police were able trace the drug
lord by the weapon used to kill Sean
Collier whom were killed by the
Tsnarnaev brothers after the bombing.

5. Positive Uses of Digital Citizenship
• The internet played a key role in
spreading news of the bombing
quickly. (US News, 2013)
• People were able to see if their loved
ones were on the injured or casualty
list. (US News, 2013)
• The internet helped people find out
about the bombing and relieve the
tension that was caused by the
bombing. (US News, 2013)
6. Negative Uses of Digital Citizenship
• The biggest problem during and after
the bombing was the unfair prejudice
towards Muslims. (ABC News, 2014)
• When many people saw that the
terrorists were Islamic, they assumed
that they were part of Al Qaeda. (ABC
News, 2014)
• When in reality, they were following
orders from a drug lord located in
Portland, Maine. (ABC News, 2014)
