Udham Singh was a revolutionary freedom fighter born in 1899 who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer in 1940. His original name was Mukta Singh, and his main goal was to avenge the civilians killed during the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar, as O'Dwyer was the lieutenant governor of Punjab at the time. While seen as a murderer by the British, Singh was viewed as a hero by Sikhs for avenging the deaths at Jallianwala Bagh. He has since been recognized through books, movies, and a day celebrated in his honor for his revolutionary actions.
