• Stair cases are used for the purpose of giving
access to different floors of a structure.

• It is dfficult to tell exactly in wich year they were born.
• It is believed his appearance was by the year 6000 before
Christ.
• The stairs seems to change shape with:
• 1: The change of architectural eras. (like Ancient Egypt,
Byzantine , Classical, Gothic etc)
• 2: Trends used in different ages.
• 3: The talent of those who designed them.

1: Straight Stairs:
• Simplest form
• It may consist of one or more flights
• Suitability: They are used when available space is long but
narrow in width.

2: Quarter Turn Stairs:
• The flight of stairs when reaches the landing and turns 90°
and runs again till it reaches the horizontal level.

• If a quarter turn stair is branched into two flights at a landing
is known as a Bifurcated stair.

• Two flights are connected by a rectangular half landing for a
180° turn.
