2. Hypersonic Jets
Would travel at least five times the speed of sound.
That's fast enough to travel across the U.S. in around 30 minutes.
3. HyperSonic Jet
Part of a $300-million military project that was conceived in 2004.
In the 2013 test, the Waverider reached Mach 5 before crashing into the ocean,
as intended.
4. Antipode
Industrial engineer Charles Bombardeer has come up with a new concept plane
called the Antipode.
In theory, it could carry up to ten passengers up to 12,430 miles.
5. Problems with hypersonic jets
Traveling over land in a hypersonic jet would cause civilians below you to hear a
constant deafening booming sound.
Requires a strong structure to withstand the violent effects of breaking the
sound barrier.
Traditional jet engines don’t function properly above mach 5 and engines that
do function above mach 5 don’t fuction below mach 5.
6. Expectations
The U.S. Air Force aims to develop an unmanned flying weapon by 2023.
Maj. Gen. Thomas Masiello claims HyperSonic aircrafts will transform modern
warfare.
