As simple as forgiving seems it isn't always so straight forward. It is complex with multi variables and moving parts. Sometimes it is merely "I'm
sorry" and other times it is a hell of a lot more than that. In my case, it was a lot more than that. Forgiveness is a reaction that can take anywhere
from seconds to years. It took me approximately four years to forgive the person who caused me grave pain. I wanted to forgive her sooner but the
mind doesn't always function the way you would like it to. To back track, two weeks before Christmas of 2010 my mother didn't come home one
night after work. Turns out she had spent all her money and had blacked out somewhere. I soon found out she had a drug and alcohol addiction. At
that time, she worked as a bartender in Baltimore City. When I found out about her addiction, my initial feelings were of hurt, pain and confusion of
what that meant and what was to come. All the feelings I had were appropriate and eventually went away. It was after that when all I felt was sheer
anger. At some points even rage, my entire life had changed without an explanation. I moved in with my father and his wife, I went to a new school
and etcetera. At the beginning, I was unable to speak to my mother. We could only communicate through letters that took a long time to receive. Before

People are taught to "forgive and forget" in order to be happy, afterall living with a grudge can being a serious damper in ones life.
It may be easy to forgive a friend, or even a stranger depending on the situation, but what if the person that had to be forgiven was themselves?

escaped the Bataan death march has twisted his belief in God, he sees God as one who punishes and rewards strictly on the basis of merit. He lives

The kindest and most compassionate thing you can do for yourself and others is to forgive yourself. We are often told that we should forgive others,
the old saying "forgive and forget" is thrown around constantly, so you make an effort to forgive those who you feel have wronged you in some way
and you find it almost impossible to do. Why is that? It is possibly because you have not yet learned how to forgive yourself.
In terms of self–help a better saying to use would be "charity begins at home" or in this case charity begins with self. You cannot freely give to the
world that which you do not give to yourself. Just as you cannot truly love someone without first loving yourself, you cannot forgive someone without

Forgiveness is a concept that most people do not understand, and I must admit I was one of those people before I took the class. My experience with
this concept was mainly through church sermons where the pastor explained God forgave us of our sins to restore a relationship with us. Therefore,
my definition was clouded by these sermons and I would have said forgiveness was saying you are sorry no matter who was at fault, showing remorse

sin against another by not bringing it up again, or shaming another person with it, or using it against a person in any way. Forgiveness brings
consequences. The offense committed may mean that we cannot trust that person again, and that is not wrong. It would be wrong, however, to refuse
to ever trust that person by not accepting any efforts to establish trust. There can also be other serious consequences of sin, and those consequences do
not make you unforgiving. "There is no promise in Scripture that God's forgiveness will eradicate all the consequences of sin." Forgiveness means
resisting thoughts of revenge. Forgiveness means wishing the other person well and having sympathy for them. It means praying for them. Forgiveness
seeks reconciliation and always being willing to serve them (Exodus 23:4).
Choosing not to forgive can have serious consequences. Bitterness begins to rule the life of an unforgiving person. He finds himself filled with anger
and mistrust of other people. He only speaks to those who sympathize with his hurt and do not challenge him. The hurt he has experienced becomes the
