PNN is located in SE Portugal, 10km NW of Barrancos (3h by car from
Lisbon or Faro airports)
The property of ca. 1000ha is limited by Rio Ardila in the north and Rio
Murtega in the south
3. History and purpose
The property was bought in 1997 by EDIA, S.A. in the scope of the
Alqueva dam Environmental Management Program as a Compensation
Measure for the loss of natural habitats .
In the PNN a sustainable agro-silvo-pastoral management plan is in
practice based in management prescriptions resulting from the PNN
Biodiversity Monitoring Program.
