4. • The purpose of the routines is to contribute to the UN's global
sustainability goals and to achieve KTH's overall sustainability goals for
education and Research.
• The routines describes:
- KTH's leadership to take sustainable development
in education and research into consideration,
- the education and research processes and
- Indicators that create value for employees and students.

5. • According to Chapter 1, § 5 (1) of the Swedish Higher Education Act,
• §6 for research, the general principles must be that
1. research problems may be freely chosen,
2. research methods may be freely developed and
3. research results may be freely published.

(2009:907) and the international environmental management standard ISO
14001: 2015.

7. • The University Board, the President, the University Director, the Vice
Presidents, the Deans, the Heads of School and the Sustainability
Manager are responsible for ensuring that sustainable development is
taken into account in education and research.
• Responsibility is delegated according to the delegation order of the
President and the Heads of School.

8. • The University Board determines a sustainability policy.
• The President makes decisions about overall sustainability goals for
education and research.
• The Sustainability Manager and the Vice President for Sustainable
Development prepare amendments to the sustainability policy and the
sustainability goals for education and research.

9. • The President renders decisions within the framework of the KTH
Development Plan (2018-2023) and the annual operational plan.
• The University Director, the Sustainability Manager and the Vice
President for Sustainable Development establish an annual operational
plan for the University Administration.
• Each Head of School determines her/his school’s development plan and
the school's annual action programme.

10. • The Sustainability Manager determines processes and routines,

which to measure and monitor.

following collaboration with relevant Vice Presidents and the Faculty

11. • The President addresses the school's work in connection with the school
dialogue.
• Deans address the results in connection with the quality dialogue with the
Faculty council.
• The Sustainability Manager is responsible for coordinating the overall
work with internal and external environmental audits.
• The auditors follow up the systematic management work by revising the
work.

12. • With the support of the Sustainability Manager and the Vice President for Sustainable
Development, the Head of School follows up her/his school’s action programme and
determines a new action programme for the following year.
• The Sustainability Manager follows up the overall work on the sustainability goals with the
management review of the President, Vice President for Sustainable Development and
the University Director.
• In collaboration with the Vice President for Sustainable Development, the Sustainability
Manager develops a comprehensive sustainability report and supports schools in their
reporting at the school level.
• The sustainability report is reported to the University Board.
• In the annual report, KTH's environmental and sustainability work is reported to the
Ministry of Education and Research, and a report is filed with the Swedish Environmental
Protection Agency,
