Effectiveness of Social Media on
Students’Academic Performance
Need Assessment and Design Phase
Introduction
• Social media has become an effective medium of communication channel
among the world e.g. using different sites such as Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram etc.
• However, there can be the possibility that in what manner the person is
using the social media that can be for his/her online business, any
organizational marketing or educational field.
• It is normally seen that students are most effected through the usage of
social media.
Need
Assessment
A need assessment is a systematic
process for determining and
addressing needs, or "gaps" between
current conditions and desired
conditions or "wants".
In this phase, a analysis of the survey
is conducted to came down to the
conclusion that student spend
excessive time on social media apps.

What are the impact of
excessive and unnecessary use
of social media on their life.
Prioritize
Needs
Firstly, Students must be
given awareness that social
media can affect their
academic performance.
Secondly, they must know
about the kind of negative
effects social media has on
their academic performance.
Design Phase
• The designing of effective HRD
program consists of the integration of
business plans and goals of the firm
with the HRD process.
• It involves designing the HRD
program and intervention that
includes training and development
methods.
Defining
Objectives
To Analyze the aspects and
usage of social media that in
what ways (either positively or
negatively) it is affecting the
academic life of students.
To enable the students to use
social media in a positive
way.
Acquiring
Materials
Following material is needed to conduct the
training program: -
A spacious room having proper seating
arrangement.
Projector and HD Sound system.
Whiteboard.
Posters or Charts.
Stationary (including Drafting notepads, Pens,
Markers etc.)
Selecting Trainer
• In order to conduct this session, the trainer
selected is one who has strong grip on
communicating social awareness and have an
ability to influence its participants through his
lectures.
• Also, people who are experienced or
related to this matter like cyber
experts, counsellors, or individuals
with good or bad experience with
social media.
Selecting method and technique
• Off the job training method will be adopted consisting of Multi-media
learning (i.e. using PowerPoint Slides) and lectures.
• It will be based on two-way communication pattern between trainer and
participants so that they can relate the learnings of the seminar with their
academic life.
Schedule of Program
The scheduling of the
final training program
done after the
accumulation of
resources.
This seminar comprises
of one day session from
9am to 5pm. It includes
3 slots of different time
period.
Developing
Lesson Plan
This step involves the development of the
lesson plan. It includes a detailed
description of the training course and
instructions.
In this training program, our focus will be
on spreading awareness among students
that how they can positively use social
media and how to manage their time in
using social networking sites

9:00 – 10:00 Introduction by Trainer and Participants,
Main purpose of the session
 Ice Breaker activities, interaction with
students.
10:00 – 10:30 Tea Break
1): 10:30 – 11:30 History and Introduction about Social
Media, explaining the usage of Social
Networking sites.
Presenting through PowerPoint Slides.
Asking Questions to Participants.
2): 11:30 – 12:15 Students Participation Every student is supposed to speak on
the topic for two minutes.
3): 12:15 – 1:00 Real life examples presented by the
trainer
Through narration and 2 or 3 interview
videos.
1:00 – 2:30 Prayer & Lunch Break
1): 2:30-3:30 Quoting the success stories of social
media usage.
Stories narrated by people who got
successful by using social media
positively in academic level.
Showing positive impact of social media
on academics

  • 3. Effectiveness of Social Media on Students’Academic Performance Need Assessment and Design Phase
  • 4. Introduction • Social media has become an effective medium of communication channel among the world e.g. using different sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. • However, there can be the possibility that in what manner the person is using the social media that can be for his/her online business, any organizational marketing or educational field. • It is normally seen that students are most effected through the usage of social media.
  • 5. Need Assessment A need assessment is a systematic process for determining and addressing needs, or "gaps" between current conditions and desired conditions or "wants". In this phase, a analysis of the survey is conducted to came down to the conclusion that student spend excessive time on social media apps.
  • 6. Continued… To investigate the negative affect of social media usage on student’s academic performance What are the impact of excessive and unnecessary use of social media on their life.
  • 7. Prioritize Needs Firstly, Students must be given awareness that social media can affect their academic performance. Secondly, they must know about the kind of negative effects social media has on their academic performance.
  • 8. Design Phase • The designing of effective HRD program consists of the integration of business plans and goals of the firm with the HRD process. • It involves designing the HRD program and intervention that includes training and development methods.
  • 9. Defining Objectives To Analyze the aspects and usage of social media that in what ways (either positively or negatively) it is affecting the academic life of students. To enable the students to use social media in a positive way.
  • 10. Acquiring Materials Following material is needed to conduct the training program: - A spacious room having proper seating arrangement. Projector and HD Sound system. Whiteboard. Posters or Charts. Stationary (including Drafting notepads, Pens, Markers etc.)
  • 11. Selecting Trainer • In order to conduct this session, the trainer selected is one who has strong grip on communicating social awareness and have an ability to influence its participants through his lectures. • Also, people who are experienced or related to this matter like cyber experts, counsellors, or individuals with good or bad experience with social media.
  • 12. Selecting method and technique • Off the job training method will be adopted consisting of Multi-media learning (i.e. using PowerPoint Slides) and lectures. • It will be based on two-way communication pattern between trainer and participants so that they can relate the learnings of the seminar with their academic life.
  • 13. Schedule of Program The scheduling of the final training program done after the accumulation of resources. This seminar comprises of one day session from 9am to 5pm. It includes 3 slots of different time period.
  • 14. Developing Lesson Plan This step involves the development of the lesson plan. It includes a detailed description of the training course and instructions. In this training program, our focus will be on spreading awareness among students that how they can positively use social media and how to manage their time in using social networking sites
  • 15. Lesson Plan Timings Topic for Discussion Activities 9:00 – 10:00 Introduction by Trainer and Participants, Main purpose of the session  Ice Breaker activities, interaction with students. 10:00 – 10:30 Tea Break 1): 10:30 – 11:30 History and Introduction about Social Media, explaining the usage of Social Networking sites. Presenting through PowerPoint Slides. Asking Questions to Participants. 2): 11:30 – 12:15 Students Participation Every student is supposed to speak on the topic for two minutes. 3): 12:15 – 1:00 Real life examples presented by the trainer Through narration and 2 or 3 interview videos. 1:00 – 2:30 Prayer & Lunch Break 1): 2:30-3:30 Quoting the success stories of social media usage. Stories narrated by people who got successful by using social media positively in academic level. Showing positive impact of social media on academics
  • 16. Continued… Timings Topic for Discussion Activities 2): 3:30 – 4:30 A brief presentation by Cyber experts. Showing statistics and surveys related to impact of social media on academic performance. 3): 4:30 – 4:50 Ending and Concluding time, Thanking everyone for attending the session and closing remarks. 4:50 – 5:00 Tea
