MR. DANIEL PINKDaniel Pink is an authorjournalist and also a speechwriter from 1995 -1997 hewas a speech writer for AlGore and also an aide forSecretary of Labor, RobertReich.
THE PUZZLE OF MOTIVATIONDuring the presentation titled The Puzzle Of Motivation Dan Pink emphasized onthe fact that traditional rewards are not always the best way to get productivityout of employees.
MR. DANIEL PINK He began by stating that he wanted to make a case and he wants us to Re-think how we run a businessHe began by stating that he wanted to make a case… He wants us to Re-think how we run abusiness.
THE CANDLE PROBLEMDaniel Pink introduced the Candle Problem which was brought to us by Carl Dunker whowas a Psychologist in 1945. He stated when seeing this it is a FUNCTIONAL FIXIDNESS.Which is a cognitive bias that limits a person to using an object only in the way it istraditionally used.
THERE WERE 2 GROUPS, GROUP 1 WAS TOLD IF YOU FINISH IN THETOP 25% THEN YOU WILL RECEIVE 5.00. GROUP 2 WAS TOLD IF YOUFINISH FASTER THAN ANYONE YOU WILL GET 20.00. NEEDLESS TO SAYTHE GROUP THAT WAS GOING TO BE REWARDED 20.00 TOOK 3:00MINUTES TO FINISH WHICH WAS SLOWER THAN THE GROUP THATWOULD HAVE BEEN REWARDED LESS.
“IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO PERFORM BETTER, YOU REWARD THEM, RIGHT? BONUSES, COMMISSIONS, THEIR OWN REALITY SHOW. INCENTIVIZE THEM…B UT THAT’S NOT HAPPENING HERE. YOU’VE GOT AN INCENTIVE DESIGNED TO SHARPEN THINKING AND ACCELERATE CREATIVITY, AND IT DOES JUST THE OPPOSITE. IT DULLS THINKING AND BLOCKS CREATIVITY”In Laymans terms giving a person a prize only blocks their creativity and thinking process.
During the presentation Daniel Pinkshowcased a great deal of confidenceand also a deep knowledge of thecontent that he presented to theaudience.
DYNAMISM 5/5I would give Daniel Pink a 5/5 for dynamism. He captures the attention of the audiencebecause of the confidence that exudes from him. Being knowledgeable about the topic helpsas well as comedic relief. He used these to his advantage; these with the persona that he hasdemands the regards of others. Which made for a great presentation.
DANIEL PINK HAD VERY CLEAR SLIDE’S THAT WERE CONCISE AND TO THE POINT WHICH WAS OF THESAME CALIBER OF PRESENTERS SUCH AS NANCY DURANT AND GARR REYNOLDS. THESE SLIDES ANDEXAMPLES THAT HE GAVE ALLOWED THE AUDIENCE TO BE IMMERSED INTO T HE PRESENTATION.
I WOULD SAY THAT DANIEL PINK DELIVERED HIS MESSAGE THOUROUGHLY WITH AN EXTR EME AMOUNTOF CONFIDENCE, EYE CONTACT, AND A DEMEANER THAT SIMPLY SAID. I G OT THIS… THROUGH HIS VOICEAND MANNERISMS ONE CAN TELL THAT HE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS CONTENT.
