Thanks to Emmeline for asking me to come along today and organizing this event. Datascope was established 14 years ago to focus on Games Programmers and very quickly spread across all development roles (artists, designers and producers) and then into commercial positions (sales and marketing). We currently manage all of Sony Computer Entertainment’s development recruitment across their three UK studios, last year we opened an office in Chicago to deal with U.S. and Canadian markets. We deal with the developers and publishers throughout the UK and Europe, Australia and North America. We’re based in Central London and currently have 7 consultants dealing with specific areas of development recruitment and 2 on the commercial side along with 2 support staff. I’m going to talk about getting into the games industry in general, CVs and interviews and then concentrate on art portfolios - some of this will be aimed that those just starting out but much of will be relevant to those already in the industry. Some of the topics are pretty standard stuff for any job application but it is amazing how many people get it wrong, as you can imagine we get vast number of applications from candidates at all levels and it’s our job to learn what works and what doesn’t. None of this is set in stone but should give you a general idea of the basics….
