CHALLENGE
This retail company UK based is an award-winning provider of organic and vegetarian handmade
cosmetics. The company has experienced exceptional growth over the past four years and now
operates in over 50 countries with a turnover in excess of £450m.
The infrastructure required for this retail company 4,057 staff in the UK and 13,652 staff globally runs
on OpenStack Swift. The solution enables all staff to collaboratively work together and access the
latest internal documents and point of sale data, via a global content management platform. The
move to Swift started in 2013, where up until that point different silos of data were being managed
internally within the different regions.
Additionally File Fabric Server is integrated with the billing system, the generated invoices from the
billing system are automatically uploaded to Enterprise File Fabric using FF REST API.
SOLUTION
The retail company ran an initial two-month trial of the SME File Fabric with 50 staff prior to moving
forward with the highly available, distributed object storage solution, that allowed them to store
documents efficiently, safely and cost-effectively. The solution was subsequently rolled out in stages by
department, in blocks of c.150 staff.
RESULTS
• The Storage Made Easy File Fabric unifies their private and public data and additionally through
open APIs, supports the use of multiple object based storage services, such as Memset, Amazon
and Dropbox.
• The File Fabric solution is hosted in the UK with the retail company's preferred infrastructure
service provider, Memset.
• Working with the retail company and SME, Memset object storage demonstrated its secure, flexible
and resilient infrastructure, hosted in its UK data centre.
