CHALLENGE
This public company is an agency dealing with labour problems, particularly international labour
standards, social protection, and work opportunities for all.
This company has over 40 field-offices across the world. Employees frequently travel to remote regions
and field offices to conduct the mission of the public company for short and extended periods of time.
Its primary storage system is Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) which the users would typically
access from their desktop, however, when outside of the corporate network, they would use Microsoft
Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) to access their files and folders. UAG did not provide the cross
platform access the companies users demand today, and additionally it also became an end of life
product and hence the public company were seeking a replacement.
USE CASE AND SOLUTION
The primary use case was to provide web based access for staff who are travelling and do not have
access to their on-premises DFS shares. When in the office the user connects directly to the DFS from
Windows and out of office will access the files using web browser and mobile applications. The public
company also wanted a secure mechanism for users to share files with internal staff and external
partners as well as ensuring that distributed locking protocols were honoured. They chose the File
Fabric as their solution of choice.

RESULTS
