4. • World-Class Pistol Shooter in 1936.
•Aspiring to represent Hungary in 1936 Summer
Olympics, Berlin.
But was denied, because he was a Sergeant.
Only Commissioned Officers were allowed to participate.
Not Meant For All
5. •Later, prohibition got lifted.
•Started to train himself again with the hope of
participating in 1940 Summer Olympics to be
held in Tokyo.
A Ray of Hope
6. Destiny is Ruthless
• During army training in 1938, lost his right hand by
handling a faulty grenade which exploded in his hand.
7. Creating His Own Destiny
• Trained his left hand in secret for shooting .
• Surprised his countrymen by winning Hungarian
National Pistol Shooting Championship in the
spring of 1939.
• Worked hard again to represent country in the
next Olympic Games.
8. A Chance lost again
• Olympic Games to be held in 1940 and 1944
were cancelled due to World War II .
9. Destiny Lost to Determination
• Finally after a wait of 12 long years, Károly represented
Hungary in Summer Olympics of 1948 in London and secured
Gold Medal with his trained left hand.
• Consecutively, won second Gold Medal in 1952 Summer
Olympics held in Helsinki.
10. Slide of Fame
• Apart from these, Károly has many achievements in his
account .
•When he won the gold medals, his age was 38 and 42
respectively .
• Genetically a ‘Righty’ but accidentally a ‘Lefty’ .
• Lost chances for four times, but ended up with the best.
