- 3. NUMBER SEQUENCES Question I think of a number. I then double it. I add 4. The answer is 22. What number did I start with? How to work it out To work out this type of question, you need to work backwards. (Remember, when you work backwards you have to do the opposite to what it tells you in the question). So 22 – 4 (because it says add, you need to minus) = 18 It then says double it, which means you need to half it = 18 ÷ 2 9
