Azure makes substantial infrastructure capabilities available to you with just a click of a mouse, but this isn't the virtualization stack you are used to. HOSTING VP of Product Sean Brunton, will discuss the gotchas and nuances of the current Azure compute services to help you find success for production applications on Azure
3. Cloud Infrastructure Landscape

MS Cloud: 6.3bn in revenue
Azure Est: 2.5bn

Server failure?

You can resize online, immediately
6. Virtualized Environment (Typical IaaS Provider)

Stand alone compute nodes
Typical IaaS architecture
Local storage
Noisy Neighbor?
You’re stuck with them unless you rebuild

Hard drive failure?
You’re down and potentially have lost data
Server failure?
You’ll have to boot up from a previous
snapshot stored on cloud storage, if you
have one, and you’ll lost data
Need more resources?
Only if your host has them free
7. Private Cloud vs Public Cloud

Editor's Notes
intro me
welcome to today’s webinar, share some info on what it takes to run production on Azure
-
- MS just announced 6.3bn in revenue from cloud
up 88% from the previous quarter
absolutely phenomenal growth, and while they don’t break out Azure separate from Office 365, best estimates I’ve heard put revenue around the 2.5bn mark
adding 10k customers a week
While the downsides are many, and finding success for mission-critical applications certainly requires new ways of solving problems, the capabilities of the platform are simply too empowering to overlook. And now that we’ve seen about a solid year without AWS being on the front page of the wall street journal for a major outage, we think it’s time to start brining both Azure and Amazon into the fold — in fact, we’ve already begun diversifying our platform portfolio beyond our own in-house VMware-based public and private clouds and we now have well over 100 customers running on top of AWS, Azure, and OpenStack based deployments.
