Introduction
● There is a pattern of change in rainfall and temperature and the study of these
variations assess a way that helps to recognize the adverse impact of climate changes.
● Analysis of the changing trends can help in better understanding of the climatic
variables, how they have changed over years and how their variation is affecting the
overall climate.
● The annual, seasonal and monthly variation in temperature and rainfall trends in Bhuj
district were investigated to see the climate change in this region of the state Gujarat,
and the net excess or deficit of rainfall and temperature in this particular region was
obtained.
Objective
1. To analyze the temperature and rainfall trends of Bhuj using meteorological
data sets from 2018 to 2021.
2. To analyze whether the changes in temperature and rainfall during this four
years span indicates any future climatic condition.
3. To assess the impact of temperature on the rainfall pattern.
Literature Review
● Kumar et al. (2010) conducted a study on the trends in temperature and
precipitation over India from 1951 to 2007. The results showed an increasing
trend in temperature and a decreasing trend in precipitation, which can have
implications for agriculture and water resources. The study emphasizes the
importance of using meteorological data sets for trend analysis.
● Prakash et al.'s study provides a relevant reference point for analyzing the trends
in temperature and precipitation patterns in Bhuj. The study provides a
framework for analyzing the long-term trends in temperature and precipitation
patterns using meteorological data sets. Furthermore, the study highlights the
potential impacts of climate change on agriculture and water resources, which
can be useful in the context of Bhuj.
● Singh et al. (2013) conducted a study on the long-term trends in
temperature and rainfall patterns over Uttarakhand for 1951-2010. They
found a significant increase in annual mean temperature and decrease in
annual mean rainfall, with the rate of increase being higher in higher
elevation areas. The changes in temperature and rainfall patterns could
have severe implications for agriculture and water resources.

Editor's Notes

  1. Climate is the most important component of the Earth system, defined by variables such as temperature, rainfall, atmospheric pressure, humidity, etc. Any long-term changes in these variables can lead to climate change. This study analyzed trends in temperature and rainfall for each season in Bhuj district of Kutch in Gujarat over 4 years (2018-2021). The primary goal was to assess trends in temperature and rainfall in the Bhuj District, which can help researchers understand the effects of climate change in this semiarid region. This work will also help in understanding various aspects, such as agriculture and other related sectors, such as food security and energy security.
