3. Early Life :-
- Prominent English Romantic poet and influential
poet of 19th century.
- Born on August 4, 1792, in English Countryside
in the village Broad bridge heath.
- Fishing and Hunting with Thomas Medwin.
- Father - Timothy Shelley, Member of
Parliament.
- Mother - Elizabeth Pilfold.
4. Schooling :-
- Leaved home at age of 10 to study at syon House Academy.
- Later joined the Eton College.
- During this time he published two novels and two major volumes of poetry.
- In 1810, Entered in University college, Oxford.
- Published pamphlet titled ‘The Necessity of Atheism’ ( The mind can not
believe in the existence of god) along with his friend Thomas Hogg as a co-
author.
- Expelled from college.
- He still used to carry beliefs like, Vegetarianism, Political Radicalism, And
sexual Freedom.
5. Affairs and marriage :-
- In August 1811, Shelley eloped with a 16 year old Woman Harriet Westbrook
- His love for her was centered on the hope that he could save her from
committing suicide. But soon leave her.
- Affair with Elizabeth Hitchener, school teacher. Inspired by her poem Qoeen
mab.
- Political pamphlets distributed by the way of Hot air balloons, glass bottles and
paper boats.
- Met Philosopher William Godwin in 1812, author of ‘Political Justice’.
- Harriet and two childrens.
- At the age of 21, betrayed Harriet, And immediately took up with another
Woman Mary Shelley, Daughter of his Beloved mentor, Godwin.
- Fled paris, then London by ship, and then by foot, wandered all over the
France, Switzerland, Germany and Holland.
6. Friendship with Lord Byron, John Keats and Leigh Hunt.
- In 1816, In Switzerland.
- Three of them stayed in Switzerland for whol summer.
- Rented a house on Lack Geneva, close to Byron.
- After long day of boating with Byron , Shelley wrote ‘Hymn to
Intellectual beauty’.
- In the Fall of 1816, Harriet Committed suicide, she was found drowned
in the serpentine River. In Hyde park, London.
- Marriage with Mary.
- After a marriage both move to Marlow, a small village. Where Shelley
was being friend with john keats and Leigh Hunt.
- Then he wrote ‘Laon’ and ‘Cythna or the revolution of the golden city.’
7. Life in Italy :-
- Both Shelley and Mary moved from city to city.
- Both their Childrens Clara and William Passed
away.
- During this time he wrote ‘Prometheus unbound’,
‘The Masque of Anarchy’ amd ‘Men of England’.
8. Death of Shelley :-
- On July 8, 1822, just closed to turning 30. Shelley was
drowned while sailing his schooner back from Livorno to
Lerici, After having met with Hunt to discuss about their
newly printed Journal, “The Liberal”.
- It is still point of debate that either his death was
accident or he was murdered by an enemy who detested
his political beliefs
- He was buried in Poet's Corner in West Minister Abbey.
