Speech On Diet And Nutrition
Anyone who is on a quest to live a long and healthy life should understands how important diet and nutrition are to achieving the physically healthy
body. Most of us delve deep into exercise and healthy eating but we gloss over the topic of nutrition. There is a distinction that should be made
between diet and nutrition, these two concepts are mutually exclusive. Dieting involves making sure we eat right, cut out the fats and the carbs, count
daily calorie intake in our quest to either lose weight or get back to a healthier size. Nutrition looks at the food we eat. It has to do with what our body
derives from what we feed it in terms of nutrients.
In order to understand the role of food in your life you need to be educated about the kinds of food you should be eating and those that you need to
steer clear of. The Cardinal Rule when it comes to food and fitness is that you need food to function, food is the fuel that will get you through your
workout, help push you to do more and be more, however not all food is good for you. Beyond...show more content...
Sodium Nitrate and Sodium Nitrite
These two additives are used to preserve the shelf life of processed meats like hot dogs and bacon. When these additives mix with stomach acids they
form potent cancer causing cells knowns as nitrosamines. These cells are associated with cancers of the mouth, stomach, brain, bladder and esophagus.
6. Sodium Benzoate And Benzoic Acid
These two additives are commonly found in fruit juices, carbonated drinks to stop the growth of microorganism an in acidic medium. When sodium
benzoate and ascorbic acid (vitamin c) mix, they can form small amounts of benzene which has been linked to Leukemia and certain cancers.
7. Potassium Bromate
Potassium bromate is an additive used to increase the volume of breads and create a fine crumb structure. The use of this additive has been banned in a
lot of countries except the U.S and Japan. Potassium Bromate may have something to do with

Dietary changes do not have to be dramatic to produce clinically important results in terms of lowering blood glucose and lipid levels. Regular
monitoring of blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, lipid levels, blood pressure, and body weight serves as an ongoing assessment of the nutrition
intervention.
Nutrition Consult
Because nutrition issues and meal planning are complex, a registered dietitian who is familiar with the current principles and recommendations for
managing diabetes may be consulted after a patient is diagnosed with diabetes. This health–care professional can be an essential member of the diabetes
management team and performs valuable functions:
Conducts initial assessment of nutritional status:
Diet history
Lifestyle
Eating habits
Provides patient education regarding:
The basic principles of diet therapy for diabetes
Meal planning
Problem–solving techniques for changing eating behaviors
Develops an individualized meal plan:
Emphasizing one or two priorities
Minimizing changes from the patient's usual diet (to encourage compliance)
Provides follow–up assessment of the meal plan to:
Determine effectiveness in terms of glucose and lipid control and weight loss
Make necessary changes based on weight loss, activity level, or changes in medication
Provides ongoing patient education and support (particularly for those on weight–loss regimens), helping patients learn to adjust their meal plans for

Nutrition and Food Intake Essay
Nutrition and Food Intake Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well–balanced
diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very
carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of
seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never
wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I...show more

The intake of nuts and legumes are good because they have fatty acids and proteins and proteins are a type of nutrient. Proteins help the body to grow
and to repair tissues. They new food pyramid says that you should take in 0–2 servings of fish, poultry ,and eggs because all of these contain all the
essential amino acids. Since amino acid is the monomer of proteins, this relates to protein. The body uses about 20kmds of amino acids to construct
the protein it needs. Amino acids are essential for growth. Fish, poultry and eggs also contain Vitamin B so they are also essential for growth and the
functioning of the eyes. The new food pyramid says that you should eat about 1–2 servings of daily products or calcium supplements. Since dairy
products contain calcium and a little bit of phosphorus they are essential for the deposition in bones, the formation of ATP and nucleic acids and
for the functioning of the heart muscles and nerves. You should limit your intake of red meat, butter, white rice, white bread, potatoes, pasta, and
sweets to a ver low amount because if you take too much you can get diseases and disorders. But it is good to take some of these food because they
also contain a little bit of Vitamin B which are essential for growth and the functioning of the nervous system. These food also can serve as fats

Nutrition is a process that involves the breakdown of food and other substances in the mouth useful in the delivery of body energy. Practicing healthy
diet can lead to avoidance of both the known and the unknown health issues. Poor diet is harmful to an individual's health and cause diseases like
kwashiorkor, scurvy, obesity and metabolic syndromes. Popkin (2011) said that "In the last 20–30 years, the world has reduced its water intake, shifted
towards sugar–sweetened beverages, increased its proportion of food that is sweetened and ultra processed and reduced its intake of many health
components of our diet, including legumes, fruits and vegetables" (p. 83). Different types of foods contain various nutrients that range from fats,...show

Introduction
We are required to obtain certain amount of nutrients from food. Food can simply divide into 2 groups, macro–nutrients and micro–nutrients
composition. Both of the groups mentioned do affect the metabolism rate. According to Hulbert and Else, dietary fatty acid will affect the metabolism
rate and some of the polyunsaturated fatty acid will increase the metabolism rate (1999). Meanwhile, different kinds of animals have their own unique
requirement for macro–nutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Moreover, most of the food intake is driven by achieving the required
protein intake. Animals on a low protein diet will over eat carbohydrates and fat until the protein requirement has been satisfied. If this case...show more

water and make sure no air bubble is inside the cuvette. After that, put the cuvette into the temperature controlled water bath for ten minutes. After 10
minutes, take the cuvette to the oxygen meter to measure the oxygen concentration by holding the end of the end of the fibre–optic cable squarely on
to the senor spot from the outside of the cuvette until the concentration has been shown on screen and record it down. Then return the Artemia to the
same incubation bath and repeat this procedure every 5 minutes and measure it for 4 to 5 times. After the process above, we have to find out the total
length of the Artemias in the cuvette. To find the total length of the Artemia, use the pipette to move the Artemia out of the cuvette and settle them into
a watch glass and measure the length of the Artemias by ruler. At last but not least, put those high energy intake Artemia back into the sink and repeat
the experiment instead of those low intake Artemia. On the other hand, to find the difference of activity of the high and low energy intake Artemia,
those Artemia will be tracked by the software named, the Tracker and the Tracker are able to determine the velocity of the Artemia under different

Reflection About Nutrition
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Food is essential for our bodies to: develop, replace and repair cells and tissues;
produce energy to keep warm, move and work; carry out chemical processes such as the digestion of food; protect against, resist and fight infection
and recover from sickness. Most people are always rushed due to their hectic schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets and simply just go
through a drive thru like me. Most people, including myself are unaware of the importance of eating and are unaware if the nutrients their lacking.
Luckily, I have never had any major health problems, and I have been able to consume many foods without having any health issues. Thanks to a...show

That being the case, I was over in added sugars, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. More importantly I was also lacking dietary fiber, calcium,
potassium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E. I believe that I am not making healthy food choices and that is consequently the reason
why I am lacking and over nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. In order to be healthy, I must improve my food choices. I tend to go to McDonald's
often because I am too lazy to actually make myself something healthy. I should be more careful with my diet, because in the long run it can have
severely affect my health. For instance, heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and etc. On the other hand, eating a balanced diet is vital for good
health and wellbeing. It provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly for
many years. To me it certainly isn't easy to cut off fast food and I honestly do not think I can cut it out of my life forever. I personally love it and
find it easier, yummier, and a lot faster. My goal is to eat healthier, and to be on target with every single one of my nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. I
will reward myself every once in a while, with some of my favorite not–so–healthy foods. In conclusion, I am very glad I was given this as an

The Importance of Diet and Nutrition
A child's diet and nutrition is a growing concern. Parenting is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, and often times parents struggle just to get
their children to eat. Most parents assume that as long as their children eat something, it is fine to let them eat what they want. The wrong approach to
food can give children mixed messages about proper nutrition and lead to serious problems later. Parents are solely responsible for children's poor
eating habits.
"Children today, more susceptible than any to propaganda, are eating an increasing amount of sweets, lollipops, crisps and refined carbohydrate food."
(Mount 23) To know what children are eating these days, one must simply...show more content...

tends to be the most processed and chemically contrived of any age group." (Environmed 1) This increase in processed food has affects on the
development of children.
Children need balanced diets, rich in nutrients, to grow and develop properly. The increase in processed foods has left its mark both physically and
mentally. It can affect school as well as home life by causing numerous side effects. According to the Environmed Research Inc., children may suffer
from tiredness, headaches, stomach aches, and ear infections due to poor diet as well as hyperactivity and moodiness. Obesity is a growing concern.
"School children are heavier today than ever before." (Mount 213) Parents must use this knowledge as incentive to better their children's diets.
Although many parents are aware of the negative effects of poor nutrition, few actually take action. The American society is one of the most educated
about nutrition, but still maintains unhealthy habits. Perhaps parents enjoy the convenience of processed foods too much to give them up. A turkey

When I first began this project I thought the 7 day eating log was going to be a waste of time, but now that have completed it I realize that it is
actually very beneficial. I never realized how bad I was eating until I took a step back and looked at it. This has greatly impacted me to change my
eating habits, and start to chose healthier foods. Something I learned about myself is that I have a lack of will power when it comes to certain types
of candy or food. I saw ice cream come up more than once on the list, which isn't very healthy. I think this will affect my lifestyle by opening my eyes
to my problems with eating, and now I need to correct them.

I got some really good insights on how terrible fast food is for you. The man's health in the movie was declining so rapidly the doctors told him he
needed to stop with this high fat diet. When I got out of the movie I took a step back and examined myself and my fast food eating habits. Granted I
hate McDonalds, but I do have a weakness for Taco Bell and KFC, and both of them are almost as bad as McDonalds. After watching this movie I am
going to seriously cut back on all my fast food intake. I think now, after watching the movie, I will think twice before I chose to go to a fast food
place, and try to find something a little more healthy.
My trip to the health food store was more of an adventure than I thought it was going to be. First the search to just find the store took some time,
and then the search inside the store to find the perfect food took even longer. While in the store I discovered that some of the foods that I love to
eat could simply be switched out with an all natural organic product. This made a great impact on me because when I got back from the store I took
a look at my 7 day eating log and realized how many of the item on there I could change for an all natural version. I learned that I really had no idea
what it was like to eat healthy. I thought for the longest time that what I was eating was pretty healthy, but looking around the store and realizing that

Nutrition and fitness play two of the most important roles in human health, and it is not difficult to understand some of the consequences for ignoring
their significance. Ignoring proper nutritional and fitness habits can lead to extreme health risks such as obesity; most of which will eventually cause
serious health issues up to and including death. To decrease these serious health risks and promote favorable personal health, one should incorporate

Obesity is associated with a vast number of health problems. It is often looked at as just a severe cosmetic problem. In actuality, in addition to
being cosmetic, obesity is one of the leading causes of major health issues in the United States. According to medical news today, obesity is a key
risk factor for several conditions and diseases including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, several types of
cancers, gallbladder disease and gall stones, osteoarthritis, gout, and breathing problems including asthma and sleep apnea. These health factors have
also been liked to premature deaths in obese people. Someone who is 40% obese is two times more likely to die prematurely than a normal–weight
person (Cholesterol Management Health Center, 2011). Though obesity is a major concern in our American society, it is a manageable and even
preventable disease. Through proper fitness and dietary habits one can overcome and completely avoid the wrath of obesity. The Human body was
designed for movement; to serve as a vehicle to transport us from place to place. To fuel this vehicle, a balanced diet is critical. Ideally, our bodies
need a suitable balance of carbohydrates. If enough carbohydrates are not present, fats and proteins can be broken down to provide energy to our
bodies. In my personal diet I tend to incorporate a lot of foods that are high in carbohydrates. I tend to eat large amounts of pasta which

Reflection Paper On Nutrition
Nutrition can be part of a major role of improving your overall body composition and health. I decided to write about the topic nutrition because,
we were assigned to track our eating habits on Super Tracker for seven days. They set up for you, the recommended portion size, based on your
height, age and weight. Super Tracker taught me a valuable lesson about keeping portion sizes in mind, and checking labels because just because
the label says it has fiber or something, it doesn't necessary mean it does; it can have more added sugars than fibers. Now, I know how much
calories I should take in everyday and what I need to improve on because I had lot of nutrients, mineral and vitamins that was under the
recommend amount that I needed. With this Super Tracker website, it made me realize that I need to eat healthier, because I am at risk of having
lots of health problems in the future, if I continue to eat the way I do. Looking at my report really made me realize that maybe because I was so
low/over on mostly everything, that therefore it is the cause of my daily headaches and why I feel weak and dizzy mostly every day of the week.
The report indicated that I was over on saturated fats, under my calorie intake, low on dairy and fruit intake and many more. As I was doing my
research, eating more fruits will improve my sources of nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and folate. The nutrients in fruit are
vital for health and maintenance for my body. The potassium in fruit can reduce my risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, according to my dietary
report, I am over with my saturated fats, as I stated above. Eating too much total fat (especially saturated fat and trans–fat), cholesterol, or sodium may
increase my risk of certain chronic diseases, such as heart disease, some cancers, or high blood pressure. Therefore, because of how badly my report
came out, it was an eye opener. I want to find ways on how to improve my nutrition and maintain it and what the better outcomes are for maintaining
good nutrition. In order to improve my nutrition, I will need to change my diet by taking small steps every day. My dietary nutrition report stated that
I am over my added sugars, so to decrease my

Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a
part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and
how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common
knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think
of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why

These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A
BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in its
self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of
cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in
people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but
most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve
University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces
too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy.
When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose is used as an energy source for the body and is transported
throughout your blood into the cells by insulin. Without proper amounts of insulin, your body is unable to use the glucose as

Nutrition is the science that investigates the relationship between physiological function and the essential elements of the foods we eat. According to
Rebecca J. Donatelle, in her book, "My Health," food provides "the chemicals we need for activity and body maintenance. Our bodies cannot
synthesize certain essential nutrients, we must obtain them from the foods we eat." What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet is crucial to how
healthy, we are and how well our body functions; therefore, it is very important to adopt healthy eating habits. Healthy eating habits are essential to
create a solid foundation for excellent health. This can be achieved by avoiding and cutting back the excess sugar and processed foods that we eat. All

For instance, carbohydrates supply the body with energy needed to sustain daily activity. Protein helps transport iron, oxygen, and nutrients, helps
muscles to recover stronger than before as well as help the skin and hair cell to develop. Fiber, helps move foods through the digestive system, delays
absorption of cholesterol and other nutrients and softens stools by absorption of water. Some substances such as fats and sugar can be misinterpreted as
being harmful to the body. Nonetheless, fats and sugars are vital to the human body and without them, certain function in out body could not take place.
What individual should emphasize on is to ensure a balance and adequate nutritional intake. It is crucial to do our best at getting the right quantities of
all essential nutrients and minimize the risks of getting too much or too little of anything we eat. Nutritious foods help strengthen neurotransmitters
that signal our brain the feeling of contentment. Not only will eating clean will leave us feeling content, healthy foods will also boost our energy
whereas foods like sugar and refined grains will drain us. Eating well will not only benefit our overall health, but it will most definitely alter our
physical appearance in a good way. Combined with exercise, a healthy diet is full of fruits, vegetables, and lean protein will help us achieve the body
we are comfortable with. Antioxidants, vitamins and minerals found in healthy foods can slow the aging process and

Nutrition: Key Nutrients
When analyzing the nutrition facts label, one must consider the following key nutrients: calories, total fat, sodium, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins
and other minerals. Calories provide energy to the human body, without them, majors organs would not be able to do work. One of the three
macronutrients, fat functions as a source of current and long–term energy. Sodium, an important nutrient to be consumed daily, helps the body maintain
blood pressure, stabilize water imbalances and perform daily functions. Unlike cholesterol, sodium is not produced in sufficient quantities on its own.
Another energy source, Carbohydrates is broken down by the enzyme amylase in digestion into glucose, providing the body with energy. Comprised of
amino acids, protein can function as an enzyme, an energy source and repair mechanism....show more content...
These key nutrients all play major roles in providing the body with energy and allowing it to perform daily functions. However, not all nutrients are not
equally beneficial. For example, unhealthy nutrients, such as saturated fat and trans fat, when taken in excess can lead to heart disease. Additionally,
cholesterol, sufficiently produced in the body already, can further the risk of a heart attack or stroke by increasing the Low–Density lipoproteins
(LDL). However, Fiber, a healthy nutrient, aids in bowel movements and the smooth passage way of digestion. Vitamins and minerals are critical in
strengthening bone structure and maintaining eyesight. This defines them as "healthy

Nutrition is the process by which chemicals from the environment are taken up in the body to provide the energy and nutrients which are needed to
keep us alive and healthy. Also providing the body with growth and repair to our muscles. Apart from water and oxygen, the needs of the body must
be met by the intake of foods. Our recommended daily amount (RDA) on calories is 2500 for men and 2000 for women to maintain a healthy diet.
Our bodies need nutrients to remain fit and healthy and are all found in the seven components of a normal diet. They consist of carbohydrates, protein,

Another nutrient is protein that we need to have in our diets. There are two main roles of protein, growth and repair of our muscles. Protein is made
up essential and nonessential amino acids, which are good for our health. Our bodies produce 20 amino acids, 12 non essential and 8 essential. For
our bodies to process protein properly the food we eat must contain the eight essential amino acids that are available only from dietary sources. There
are four types of protein, whey, soy, egg and casen.
Protein helps to maintain and replace the tissues in our bodies. Both children and adults need plenty of protein to grow and develop. The body uses
protein as a secondary source for energy. It forms the structure of every cell, tissues, internal organs, tendons, skin, hair and nails. Meat, eggs and dairy
products are considered complete proteins, but vegetables, beans and other plant products are considered incomplete proteins.
The recommended daily allowance for protein depends on the amount of energy intake and the person exercise levels. Women aged 19–70 on average
need to consume 46 grams of protein per day, while men aged 19–70 on average need to consume 56 grams of

Why I Want to Be a Nutritionist
As Thomas Edison said "In future we would be able to cure disease through nutrients with gene and drugs". According to my observation of life
nutrition is the fundamental factor which influences health and it's the relationship between health and disease. Often people do not realize the
importance of good nutrition for wellbeing. This whole world revolve around nutrition, we are absolutely nothing without nutritional values. Chemistry
of the human body is the reason which made me interested in nutrition.
In school I read that eating influence the ability to concentrate, growth, nourishment, resistance to infections etc. why? Because of the nutritional
values. Medical research has proven that good nutrition helps to maintain healthy weight, body and body systems to function for a lifetime. It is also
essential for boosting self–confidence. It plays a critical role through all stages of life ,through my working experience I have observed eating food is
much more than we think, It involves psychological, environmental, economical, genetic etc. factors
I really enjoy applying good scientific knowledge of food on people or for the benefit of people, which nutrition is all about.

A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that allows us to survive. The food that people take in
will go through their digestive system that then allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then sent,

The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments.
So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six different
food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and
fruits. From most to least you should eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils, and sweets.
You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The
Daily intake guidelines are the amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for healthy eating.
These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs 100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is

Nutrition Analysis of my Diet Journal Essay
In my Diet Journal, I recorded all the food I ate over the weekend with the best accuracy I could attempt to do. But one of the factors that made my
food diary inaccurate was that I couldn't find every detail and percentage of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins in everything I ate. Also, all of the
amounts and servings were approximations, not exact amounts. I was able to record everything I ate, but accuracy may have been affected by
estimations and sources. The calorie intake I had over the three day period ranged from 1900–2500 calories. This was over my 1800 BMR, due to the
food choices and fluctuation in diet. I am 5'4'' tall and weigh 110 pounds. I also have a BMI of 18.88. On the American/Caucasian standard of BMI, I

Over the weekend my intake of calories ranged between 1900–2500 which is above the recommended amount. Even with my activity level taken into
account, this should have caused me to gain more weight than 10 pounds over a one year period. The time that my diet was recorded, I may have
eaten more than I usually do. For day 1, I ate an more fat than recommended, which was not over by much because it was 15%. On the second day I
ate 40% fat, which is over the 30% recommended. On the third day, my fat intake was 32%, which is once again, over the daily recommended. I
have been eating in the range of the recommended proteins and carbohydrates on the other days. My water intake 7 cups a day on average, but I
need to consume more fruits and vegetables. The errors in my food chart includes the data of the food and actual amount that I consumed. The
error in food data was caused by using different sources for data. Some sites had the same food but different data. I estimated my consumption as
close as I could on almost all of my foods. My data could be more accurate if I had used only one source for food data, and find the exact
measurements for what I ate. Also, my record of fruits and vegetables may not have been accurate because I do not usually eat them alone, so they
may have been in my food and I did not take account of them. On the third day, I ate Jack in the Box the whole day, which is a rare event to occur in
my diet. On the weekends I am less active, but

Speech On Diet And Nutrition

  • 1. Speech On Diet And Nutrition Anyone who is on a quest to live a long and healthy life should understands how important diet and nutrition are to achieving the physically healthy body. Most of us delve deep into exercise and healthy eating but we gloss over the topic of nutrition. There is a distinction that should be made between diet and nutrition, these two concepts are mutually exclusive. Dieting involves making sure we eat right, cut out the fats and the carbs, count daily calorie intake in our quest to either lose weight or get back to a healthier size. Nutrition looks at the food we eat. It has to do with what our body derives from what we feed it in terms of nutrients. In order to understand the role of food in your life you need to be educated about the kinds of food you should be eating and those that you need to steer clear of. The Cardinal Rule when it comes to food and fitness is that you need food to function, food is the fuel that will get you through your workout, help push you to do more and be more, however not all food is good for you. Sodium Benzoate And Benzoic Acid These two additives are commonly found in fruit juices, carbonated drinks to stop the growth of microorganism an in acidic medium. When sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid (vitamin c) mix, they can form small amounts of benzene which has been linked to Leukemia and certain cancers. 7. • 5. Nutrition and Food Intake Essay Nutrition and Food Intake Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well–balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. Since amino acid is the monomer of proteins, this relates to protein. The body uses about 20kmds of amino acids to construct the protein it needs. Amino acids are essential for growth. Fish, poultry and eggs also contain Vitamin B so they are also essential for growth and the functioning of the eyes. The new food pyramid says that you should eat about 1–2 servings of daily products or calcium supplements. Since dairy products contain calcium and a little bit of phosphorus they are essential for the deposition in bones, the formation of ATP and nucleic acids and for the functioning of the heart muscles and nerves. You should limit your intake of red meat, butter, white rice, white bread, potatoes, pasta, and sweets to a ver low amount because if you take too much you can get diseases and disorders. Practicing healthy diet can lead to avoidance of both the known and the unknown health issues. Poor diet is harmful to an individual's health and cause diseases like kwashiorkor, scurvy, obesity and metabolic syndromes. Popkin (2011) said that "In the last 20–30 years, the world has reduced its water intake, shifted towards sugar–sweetened beverages, increased its proportion of food that is sweetened and ultra processed and reduced its intake of many health components of our diet, including legumes, fruits and vegetables" (p. 83). • 7. Nutrition Report Essay Introduction We are required to obtain certain amount of nutrients from food. Food can simply divide into 2 groups, macro–nutrients and micro–nutrients composition. Both of the groups mentioned do affect the metabolism rate. According to Hulbert and Else, dietary fatty acid will affect the metabolism rate and some of the polyunsaturated fatty acid will increase the metabolism rate (1999). Meanwhile, different kinds of animals have their own unique requirement for macro–nutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Moreover, most of the food intake is driven by achieving the required protein intake. Animals on a low protein diet will over eat carbohydrates and fat until the protein requirement has been satisfied. If this case...show more content... After 10 minutes, take the cuvette to the oxygen meter to measure the oxygen concentration by holding the end of the end of the fibre–optic cable squarely on to the senor spot from the outside of the cuvette until the concentration has been shown on screen and record it down. Then return the Artemia to the same incubation bath and repeat this procedure every 5 minutes and measure it for 4 to 5 times. After the process above, we have to find out the total length of the Artemias in the cuvette. To find the total length of the Artemia, use the pipette to move the Artemia out of the cuvette and settle them into a watch glass and measure the length of the Artemias by ruler. At last but not least, put those high energy intake Artemia back into the sink and repeat the experiment instead of those low intake Artemia. On the other hand, to find the difference of activity of the high and low energy intake Artemia, those Artemia will be tracked by the software named, the Tracker and the Tracker are able to determine the velocity of the Artemia under different treatment for 5 replicates. • 9. Reflection About Nutrition Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Food is essential for our bodies to: develop, replace and repair cells and tissues; produce energy to keep warm, move and work; carry out chemical processes such as the digestion of food; protect against, resist and fight infection and recover from sickness. Most people are always rushed due to their hectic schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets and simply just go through a drive thru like me. Most people, including myself are unaware of the importance of eating and are unaware if the nutrients their lacking. Luckily, I have never had any major health problems, and I have been able to consume many foods without having any health issues. Thanks to a...show more content... That being the case, I was over in added sugars, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. More importantly I was also lacking dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E. I believe that I am not making healthy food choices and that is consequently the reason why I am lacking and over nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. In order to be healthy, I must improve my food choices. I tend to go to McDonald's often because I am too lazy to actually make myself something healthy. I should be more careful with my diet, because in the long run it can have severely affect my health. For instance, heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and etc. On the other hand, eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and wellbeing. It provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly for many years. To me it certainly isn't easy to cut off fast food and I honestly do not think I can cut it out of my life forever. I personally love it and find it easier, yummier, and a lot faster. My goal is to eat healthier, and to be on target with every single one of my nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. • 10. Essay on The Importance of Diet and Nutrition The Importance of Diet and Nutrition A child's diet and nutrition is a growing concern. Parenting is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, and often times parents struggle just to get their children to eat. Most parents assume that as long as their children eat something, it is fine to let them eat what they want. The wrong approach to food can give children mixed messages about proper nutrition and lead to serious problems later. Parents are solely responsible for children's poor eating habits. "Children today, more susceptible than any to propaganda, are eating an increasing amount of sweets, lollipops, crisps and refined carbohydrate food." "In affluent countries, the children's food supply tends to be the most processed and chemically contrived of any age group." (Environmed 1) This increase in processed food has affects on the development of children. Children need balanced diets, rich in nutrients, to grow and develop properly. The increase in processed foods has left its mark both physically and mentally. It can affect school as well as home life by causing numerous side effects. According to the Environmed Research Inc., children may suffer from tiredness, headaches, stomach aches, and ear infections due to poor diet as well as hyperactivity and moodiness. Obesity is a growing concern. "School children are heavier today than ever before." (Mount 213) Parents must use this knowledge as incentive to better their children's diets. Although many parents are aware of the negative effects of poor nutrition, few actually take action. The American society is one of the most educated about nutrition, but still maintains unhealthy habits. Perhaps parents enjoy the convenience of processed foods too much to give them up. Nutrition Essay Nutrition Paper When I first began this project I thought the 7 day eating log was going to be a waste of time, but now that have completed it I realize that it is actually very beneficial. I never realized how bad I was eating until I took a step back and looked at it. This has greatly impacted me to change my eating habits, and start to chose healthier foods. Something I learned about myself is that I have a lack of will power when it comes to certain types of candy or food. I saw ice cream come up more than once on the list, which isn't very healthy. I think this will affect my lifestyle by opening my eyes to my problems with eating, and now I need to correct them. The movie...show more content... I got some really good insights on how terrible fast food is for you. The man's health in the movie was declining so rapidly the doctors told him he needed to stop with this high fat diet. When I got out of the movie I took a step back and examined myself and my fast food eating habits. Granted I hate McDonalds, but I do have a weakness for Taco Bell and KFC, and both of them are almost as bad as McDonalds. After watching this movie I am going to seriously cut back on all my fast food intake. I think now, after watching the movie, I will think twice before I chose to go to a fast food place, and try to find something a little more healthy. My trip to the health food store was more of an adventure than I thought it was going to be. First the search to just find the store took some time, and then the search inside the store to find the perfect food took even longer. While in the store I discovered that some of the foods that I love to eat could simply be switched out with an all natural organic product. This made a great impact on me because when I got back from the store I took a look at my 7 day eating log and realized how many of the item on there I could change for an all natural version. I learned that I really had no idea what it was like to eat healthy. I thought for the longest time that what I was eating was pretty healthy, but looking around the store and realizing that Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It is often looked at as just a severe cosmetic problem. In actuality, in addition to being cosmetic, obesity is one of the leading causes of major health issues in the United States. According to medical news today, obesity is a key risk factor for several conditions and diseases including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, several types of cancers, gallbladder disease and gall stones, osteoarthritis, gout, and breathing problems including asthma and sleep apnea. • 13. Reflection Paper On Nutrition Nutrition can be part of a major role of improving your overall body composition and health. I decided to write about the topic nutrition because, we were assigned to track our eating habits on Super Tracker for seven days. They set up for you, the recommended portion size, based on your height, age and weight. Super Tracker taught me a valuable lesson about keeping portion sizes in mind, and checking labels because just because the label says it has fiber or something, it doesn't necessary mean it does; it can have more added sugars than fibers. Now, I know how much calories I should take in everyday and what I need to improve on because I had lot of nutrients, mineral and vitamins that was under the recommend amount that I needed. With this Super Tracker website, it made me realize that I need to eat healthier, because I am at risk of having lots of health problems in the future, if I continue to eat the way I do. Looking at my report really made me realize that maybe because I was so low/over on mostly everything, that therefore it is the cause of my daily headaches and why I feel weak and dizzy mostly every day of the week. The report indicated that I was over on saturated fats, under my calorie intake, low on dairy and fruit intake and many more. As I was doing my research, eating more fruits will improve my sources of nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and folate. The nutrients in fruit are vital for health and maintenance for my body. The potassium in fruit can reduce my risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, according to my dietary report, I am over with my saturated fats, as I stated above. Eating too much total fat (especially saturated fat and trans–fat), cholesterol, or sodium may increase my risk of certain chronic diseases, such as heart disease, some cancers, or high blood pressure. Therefore, because of how badly my report came out, it was an eye opener. I want to find ways on how to improve my nutrition and maintain it and what the better outcomes are for maintaining good nutrition. In order to improve my nutrition, I will need to change my diet by taking small steps every day. My dietary nutrition report stated that I am over my added sugars, so to decrease my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. A BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in its self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose is used as an energy source for the body and is transported throughout your blood into the cells by insulin.
