Lab Report H2o2
This lab activity had students to conduct various tests on enzymes in different environments to determine how the rate of reaction in decomposing
hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to water and oxygen gas was dependent on environmental adjustments. Controls are essential in a lab to help rule out any
unnecessary results.
In Part 1, when hydrogen peroxide was added to the sand and manganese oxide these tests acted as control tests. When H2O2 was added to sand, no
reaction took place because there are no enzymes present in the sand. This can be seen in Table 1 since similar results were obtained from separate
groups. On the other hand, when manganese oxide reacted with the H2O2 , an instantaneous reaction took place as 59mL of gas was released within
approximately 15 seconds. This verified that manganese oxide was indeed a catalyst to help decompose H2O2 to water and oxygen gas. The results are

It was observed that the fresh fruit (fresh pineapple & kiwi) had a hard time to solidify the Jell–O mix. This is because fresh fruit contained the
enzyme, proteases whose function is to cut proteins up, and since one of the main ingredients in Jell–O was gelatin (an animal protein) the proteases
cut up the peptide bonds in the gelatin causing the Jell–O to remain liquidy (Buddies, 2013). On the other hand, the canned pineapple had been
processed, this led to an absence of proteases thus somewhat solidifying the Jell–O. However, the canned pineapple contained bromelain, responsible
for breaking down Jell–O, nonetheless, the enzyme is denatured through the processing stage through heat. The Jell–O with no fruit fully solidified
(please refer to Table 7 for further information). In conclusion, each enzyme had an optimal performance at a specific temperature however, if the
environment around the enzyme is either too low or too high, it will denature the enzyme, unable to

Effect Of Sugar On Enzyme Peroxidase
How sugar affects the function of the necessary, enzyme peroxidase. For this lab report, there's some unnecessary citation and commas almost in every
section of the lab. For example, in the abstract section, there's an unnecessary in–text citation. Moreover, according to the lab manual, the abstract
should include a little bit of everything such as the hypothesis, results, and methods. Which this lab report fails to do so this could be improved. In
addition, the introduction part of the lab report was good. However, there were mistakes which include unnecessary commas, and space. At the end of
the section, there's an awkward sentence "with the use of knowledge and understanding of chemical reactions....", this could be improved with

Finishing High School Essay
An online class requires an organized person who manages their time well. The individual needs to be highly driven, organized, and have a desire
learn. My determination to finish school early and my desire for continuing education while still serving others makes an online program perfect for me.
From day one of high school, I wanted to graduate a year early. With my parent's blessing, I begin to prepare for achieving my goal of finishing High
school in 3 years. I was 16 years old when I got accepted into college and begin my college career having just turned 17 years old. I declared my
Nutrition major from the start with the goal of becoming a pediatric dietitian. My hard work was rewarded when I completed my internship at one of the

The Enzyme Peroxidase : Lab Report
The Enzyme Peroxidase Case Study Lab Report
Autumn Vick
I. ABSTRACT:
The purpose of this experiment is to learn the effects of a certain enzyme (Peroxidase) concentration, to figure out the temperature and pH effects on
Peroxidase activity and the effect of an inhibitor. The procedure includes using pH5, H202, Enzyme Extract, and Guaiacol and calibrating a
spectrophotometer to determine the effect of enzyme concentration. As the experiment continues, the same reagents are used with the
spectrophotometer to determine the temperature and pH effects on Peroxidase activity. Lastly, to determine the effect of an inhibitor on Peroxidase, an
inhibitor is added to the extract. It was found that an increase in enzyme concentration also caused an increase in the reaction rate. The reaction rate of
peroxidase increases at 40oC. Peroxidase performed the best under pH5 and declined as it became more basic. The inhibitor (Hydroxy–lamine) caused
a decline in the reaction rate. The significance of this experiment is to find the optimal living conditions for Peroxidase. This enzyme is vital because it
gets rid of hydrogen peroxide, which is toxic to living environments.
II. INTRODUCTION: There are thousands of chemical reactions that occur in a cell at every moment. These chemical reactions do not occur
randomly, they are highly under the control of biological catalysts called enzymes. Most of these enzymes are proteins. These proteins have certain

Hydrogen Peroxidase Experiment
In this experiment, the problem question was how does the concentration of an enzyme affect the rate of the enzyme activity? The identified
independent variable was the concentration of enzyme (mL). The variable that is affected by the independent variable is the dependent variable which,
in this case, is the reaction rate (floating units/minutes). Other variables that stayed unchanged throughout the experiment include the amount of 1%
hydrogen peroxide and the room temperature. The hypothesis that was tested in this experiment was if we poured 40 mL of the potato solution
(hydrogen peroxidase) into cup 1, then cup 1 will react the fastest because it has the highest concentration of enzymes among the four solutions.

Two Prewriting Methods That Makes Writing Easier
Before I enrolled at Daytona State, I attended Phoenix University online where I took the course University Academic Writing. In the beginning of this
course, we learnt about the steps of writing an essay by first starting with prewriting. Back in middle school and high school, my only exposure to the
concept of prewriting was a type of brainstorming that involves drawing a main circle with the overall topic and then adding adjacent circles with
sub–topics, of which then branch out with information. Nowadays, I prefer to use two methods that I learnt in the writing course: invisible writing and
outlining.
The method I prefer to start with is invisible writing. Invisible writing is a computer

Peroxidase Enzyme Lab
To begin the experiment, six 16 x 150 mm test tubes were chosen, three marked "enzyme" and three marked "substrate." For the baseline test using
a 10 mL syringe and two 5 mL syringes, 7 mL of distilled water, 0.2 mL of a 0.3% guaiacol solution, and 0.3 mL of 0.1% hydrogen peroxide were
added to the first substrate tube, containing a total volume of 7.5 mL. The baseline substrate test tube was then covered with a piece of Parafilm and
gently mixed. To the baselineenzyme test tube, 1.5 mL of the standard 25g/400 mL concentration of peroxidase and 6.0 mL of distilled water were
added; a piece of Parafilm also covered the tube then the test tube was gently mixed. The other two substrate tubes, one for the low concentration test

Finished Basement
Though you may not realize it, your basement can be a major asset. In addition to enhanced storage options and added living space to energy
conservation and increased property value, finishing your home basement can offer an array of benefits. Below, the basement remodeling experts at
Best Custom Homes in West Salem, WI outline a few of the main advantages.
Benefits of a Finished Basement
It's Cheaper Than You Might Expect
The majority of basement remodeling projects are far less costly than homeowners anticipate, especially when compared to other major of home
improvements. In fact, the price per square per square foot is often less costly than any other room of the house. Home improvements like kitchen
remodeling, home additions, or a bathroom...show more content...
Basement apartments can be just as fancy as any other living space – and may actually offer more living space than traditional apartment units.
Depending on your neighborhood and mortgage payment amount, you may be able to request 50–75% of your monthly mortgage as a monthly rent
payment.
Flexible Living Space
Finishing your basement can double your home's available living space. This space can be used for nearly any purpose: a home gym or office,
private living quarters for the in laws, a "man cave" for video gaming and Sunday football games, or even a children's play area. Your imagination is
the only limit.
Storage Galore
Finishing your basement is an excellent way to organize your home. Many homeowners "organize" spare junk and stray boxes in random corners and
closets around the home. A basement is the ideal place to organize all of the things that do not belong elsewhere or that are used on a limited basis,
such as winter sports equipment or holiday decorations, saving you a bundle on a rented storage

Catalase And Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Lab
Investigating the Effects of Temperature, Inhibitors, Enzyme, and Substrate Concentration on the Velocity of Catalase
–Hydrogen Peroxide Reactions
By Linsey Coles
Abstract
This lab served to demonstrate the catalase–catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas under different reaction
conditions. This included the investigation of the effects of enzyme concentration, temperature, substrate concentration, and presence of inhibitors on
the initial reaction velocity. Because this catalase–hydrogen peroxide reaction is important in biological systems, this lab demonstrates the importance
of maintaining homeostasis in cells to provide optimal conditions for these reactions. The experiments were carried out using a eudiometer and
primarily concluded that reaction rate is dependent on temperature, substrate...show more content...

Exp. – Experiment s – Second Introduction
This lab served to demonstrate the reaction between the enzyme catalase and hydrogen peroxide under different environmental conditions and the
addition of an inhibitor. This is an important reaction in biological systems. Hydrogen peroxide serves many important roles in the body such as
acting in signaling between cells, controlling inflammation at sites of injury (Halliwell et al. 2000), and cardio myogenesis (Seonmin et al. 2011).
While important, hydrogen peroxide in excess can break down to hydroxide radicals and cause damage to DNA and other tissues (Halliwell et al.
2000). Because of this, hydrogen peroxide in cells must be regulated and this is done by catalase. Catalase is an enzyme that catalyzes the
dissociation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas, preventing the formation of oxidizing hydroxide radicals (Yang et al. 2002). It does this
by binding to the hydrogen peroxide.

Advice for Young People Who Just Finished School
Outcome Many young people who just finish school would like to move out to live their life, buy a car or travel the world. Everyone would love
to do all the things they have ever visualised straight after they finish school and in order to achieve this cash plays a big role. The wise decision is
to invest money so it can grow in value which will help achieve financial goals. This report will take a look at understanding different investment
opportunities that can be made to ensure that young people have future financial independence. As soon as young adults finish school, they want to
move out of the family home and learn to live their own life. The first thing that comes to the mind is the amount of money needed to rent
accommodation and provide for food and clothing. It is important for young people to start investing their saved money early for it to grow while they
prepare to step out into the community without support from parents. Many young people have a job whilst studying giving them a head start in
investing money for the future. It is important that young people understand that not all money earned should be spent. The earlier investment starts
the more money can be saved. Young people who start investing early, have the best friend of investing on their side: Time. Time is their strongest
weapon in investments. According to calculations done, $5000 invested today in a bank with an interest rate of 4% will grow to $24,000 within 40
years. If they decided to

Peroxidase Reaction Lab Report
The purpose of this study was to show the importance of enzyme shape on its ability to properly catalyze reactions by determining the effect of
temperature on the specific enzyme peroxidase. Furthermore, the experiment aimed to determine the optimal temperature for peroxidase as well as to
determine if the temperature effect is reversible. In order to test this, two test tubes containing pH 5 buffer with peroxidase and two test tubes
containing H2O2 with the dye guaiacol were put into baths of either 4В°C, 32 В°C, and 60 В°C as well as test tubes that were left at room
temperature. Once the test tubes reached temperature they were all removed from their baths, and one of each mixture was immediately tested in a
spectrophotometer while the remaining two were left to recover to room temperature and then tested after recovery. They were observed for two
minutes at 20–second intervals....show more content...
The mixture at 60 В°C had values of zero for both the at temperature mixtures and the recovered mixture, indicating that the high heat completely
denatured the enzyme. This leads to the conclusion that peroxidase has an optimal temperature near 22В°C and anything lower will have low yield,
while anything higher will denature. This proves the importance of temperature on enzyme shape and thus

Enzyme Concentration Lab
The Effects of Increasing Enzyme Concentration on Enzyme Function
Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to test for enzyme activity by examining factors that may influence enzymes.
Background
The reaction taking place is catalase breaking down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and hydrogen. The enzyme is catalase, the substrate is hydrogen
peroxide, and the products are hydrogen and oxygen. The question being tested is when we increase the yeast concentration, what will happen to the
rate of the reaction. If increasing yeast concentration affects the rate of reaction, then the time it takes the disc to rise will decrease.
Materials

Repeat steps 4–6 two more times with new disc.
Empty yeast and peroxide beakers.
Repeat step 1.
Repeat step 2 but with 20 mL Activated yeast (30–37ВєC) (4 grams/125 mL)
Create more discs if needed.
Repeat steps 4–6 three more times.
Clean materials.
Results
The last set of bars are the average of each trial.
Conclusion
Our results were more or less what we expected. Increasing the enzyme concentration decreased the time that the disc took to rise to the top of the
hydrogen peroxide. In our procedure we quadrupled the the enzyme concentration, which decreased the time the disc took to rise to the top by 64%
(from the average). Because of the outcome, we can say that our hypothesis was correct.
The average for the trials of activated yeast, 1g/125mL, was 94 seconds until the disc reached the top of the hydrogen peroxide. However, the average
for the trials of activated yeast, 2g/68mL, was 34 seconds until the disc reached the top. It is clear that the 2g/68mL mixture was faster. This happened
because since there are more enzymes, the chemical reaction(converting hydrogen peroxide to oxygen and hydrogen) can be completed much

My Writing Process Analysis
Most writers and student can find, that the start of any essays comes with many challenges that can be in some cases very intimidating. This challenge
has been a conflict for me, but with the collaboration of my previous English teachers changed my writing drastically. Although it is safe to say that no
writing is perfect including myself, however, I will still continue to improve my writing process that will help guide myself, writers and other students
overcome this challenge. There are many ways to write a proper essay and different stages of the writing process. As well as the few tips that could
possibly help you write an enhanced essay. The stages of the writing process that helped me write an essay the most are the Prewriting, Writing,
Self–evaluation/self–revising and peer editing, and lastly finalizing the finished essay. Prewriting in my case is to be considered the simplest process,
even though it is crucial in any essay. The reason behind it is that it consists of generating ideas through brainstorming (for me jotting the idea down on
a paper), as well as engaging in free writing (writing everything that comes to...show more content...
The next two processes (self–revision and peer editing) are also very crucial for two purposes. One purpose is to correct all major and minor
mistakes such as: adding additional or missing information, replacing unwanted information, rearranging the paragraph so the essay has continuity,
and fixing grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes. The other purpose is to provide critical feedback on how I can enhance my essay even
more. Reading an essay aloud is also an efficient way I learned to spot errors when

Wow. I just finished my last semester as an undergraduate student, and my last semester in school for the foreseeable future. After spending the last
17 years of my life as a 'student' I don't think it has quite hit me that I am essentially done. Looking back at all of this school, one thing rings true. It
is the courses which pushed me outside of my comfort zone that I remember best. From my Arabic class in Morocco, to my first ever music class, to
the first time I was told to write poetry, these are the courses that don't blend in with the backdrop of my education. These courses stand out because
they required more work, and because they forced me to think outside of my normal pattern. Arabs and Muslims in the Media has been one of...show

Because it actually caused me to look back and think differently about the media that I consume, which is a learning outcome that I did not anticipate
from this class. The most powerful part of that book, for me, was the discussion of 'preferred meaning,' and how even media that supposedly has
positive Arab or Muslim characters can still have a problematic thesis. Now that we have read and discussed this book, I am starting to see examples of
it everywhere. Just a few days ago, I saw a news article talking about a FBI operative who married a jihadist and "went rogue," which is just a different
way for the author to say "went Muslim." Beginning to see examples of this everywhere is good for me. I tend to consider myself as being more biased
towards Islam than against it. I have seen too much warmth and hospitality from Muslim friends to feel differently. But I have realized that I have
been subconsciously drawing a mental divide, between my experiences and the media's portrayals. Obviously, I would still have been frustrated
with more blatant problematic portrayals, but I never would have looked at (for example) Kingdom of Heaven as fitting into that category. The fact
that this class has broken down some of those walls for me, and has lead me to see more clearly the sheer scope of the problem is probably the most
significant way in which this class will have an effect on my life going

My Goals Of Finishing School
Personal experience is away you go through things without knowing it at first, but after all.....you could say you have experienced it, rather you
wanted to or not. Finishing school is one of my biggest goals. Not just for me but for my parents. I want to make my Mother and Father proud. Show
them they've did their job as a parent and raising a successful child that knows more than what I knew better. My 12 grade year of high school. I went to
a school called , Jordan Christen Prep. They've told me their was an accredit high school. They could help me reach my goals and graduate (ON
TIME) and also get my where I need to be . Instead none of those things weren't true. Before I known those things .... I was pushing myself, working
harder, harder , even harder, very hard to get finished .When I found out they wasn't an accredit school my mom was quick to ask the school for my
withdrawal papers. She took me to Winter Haven High School , as im enrolling...show more content...

cried, I walked out the guidance office unhappy and sad. At that point I had to wait all the way until next year to complete high school and
graduate. I did everything I can to motivate myself to have my mother them proud that same year , I told them I could do it , I never gave up , that's
what matters the most. After all that happen I still asked teachers, what is another option I can participate in. if anything was possible I was down to
do it. I was never going to give up . At this point I had to call my parents, they encouraged me to not give up and pushed me as I pushed

Catalase Lab
The Effect of pH on the Rate of Enzyme Catalysis of Catalase
Objectives:
The objective of this lab was to develop a protocol to investigate the effect of an environmental variable on the catalytic function of an enzyme. More
specifically, the objective was to perform an experiment in order to test the effect ofpH on the function of the enzyme catalase.
Introduction: Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts for reactions. This simply means that enzymes lower the activation energy required for a
reaction to take place, allowing a particular reaction to take place much quicker and easier. Specific enzymes only lower the activation energy for
specific reactions, and enzymes are shape–specific. The unique folds of the amino...show more content...

P Generation Hypothesis
The first hypothesis stated that the parents in the P generation should exhibit a single mutant gene to yield progenies in the F1 generation manifest
the Bar eye mutation. Therefore, female in the P generation had a single Bar eye mutation crossed with vestigial male according to the first
hypothesis as shown in figure 1. The second hypothesis was the reciprocal cross of the first hypothesis in which male in the P generation had a
single Bar eye mutation crossed with vestigial female according to figure 2. In the first hypothesis, when Bar eye female crossed with vestigial male
in the P generation, they yielded Bar eye male and Bar eye female in the F1 generation as shown in figure 1. Then, when the F1 generation crossed,

First step, one of the major issues was that all members in the group did not pay attention to the gender of flies in each vial of the unknown P cross
of the F1 generation. The number of male and female might not equal to ratio 1:1 in each vial which led to have an error because Bar eye mutation is
a dominant X– linked gene that does not assort independently while vestigial wing mutation is autosomal mutation located on chromosome number 2.
As a result, vestigial gene assorts independently and does not play significant role with gender in the next generation: however, gender played
significant role when determining mutation specifically for Bar eye mutation. Second, there was no differences in the traits as flies observed in
first count on April 10 and second count on April 17. Third, there was a difficulty while transferring flies from the vails to the nap chamber. Flies
in some vials remained sticking in the food gel due to knocking issue. Some vials accidently knocking aggressively made the flies stick in the food
gel. Also, some fruit flies flied and some of them killed accidently while putting the stopper because transferring the flies were quickly from the
vials to the nap chamber. Growth condition were not good for some vials that made the group to discard some vials and used the backup vials due to
contamination and bacterial infection that killed the flies in some vials. Finally, according to table 4, the individual Chi square for vial A, C, and D
was lower than the critical value and support the hypothesis; however, Vial E showed Chi square value greater than the critical value which rejected
the hypothesis. Vial E during the second count was not knocked to get the flies away from the stopper which made some of them to fly while
transferring them to the nap

Why Nice Guys Finish Last Analysis
A popular phrase growing up might have been "don't believe everything you see on the internet." Many websites, newspapers, magazines, and

Lab Report H2O2

  • 1. Lab Report H2o2 This lab activity had students to conduct various tests on enzymes in different environments to determine how the rate of reaction in decomposing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to water and oxygen gas was dependent on environmental adjustments. Controls are essential in a lab to help rule out any unnecessary results. In Part 1, when hydrogen peroxide was added to the sand and manganese oxide these tests acted as control tests. When H2O2 was added to sand, no reaction took place because there are no enzymes present in the sand. This can be seen in Table 1 since similar results were obtained from separate groups. On the other hand, when manganese oxide reacted with the H2O2 , an instantaneous reaction took place as 59mL of gas was released within approximately 15 seconds. This verified that manganese oxide was indeed a catalyst to help decompose H2O2 to water and oxygen gas. The results are credible...show more content... It was observed that the fresh fruit (fresh pineapple & kiwi) had a hard time to solidify the Jell–O mix. This is because fresh fruit contained the enzyme, proteases whose function is to cut proteins up, and since one of the main ingredients in Jell–O was gelatin (an animal protein) the proteases cut up the peptide bonds in the gelatin causing the Jell–O to remain liquidy (Buddies, 2013). On the other hand, the canned pineapple had been processed, this led to an absence of proteases thus somewhat solidifying the Jell–O. However, the canned pineapple contained bromelain, responsible for breaking down Jell–O, nonetheless, the enzyme is denatured through the processing stage through heat. The Jell–O with no fruit fully solidified (please refer to Table 7 for further information). In conclusion, each enzyme had an optimal performance at a specific temperature however, if the environment around the enzyme is either too low or too high, it will denature the enzyme, unable to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Effect Of Sugar On Enzyme Peroxidase How sugar affects the function of the necessary, enzyme peroxidase. For this lab report, there's some unnecessary citation and commas almost in every section of the lab. For example, in the abstract section, there's an unnecessary in–text citation. Moreover, according to the lab manual, the abstract should include a little bit of everything such as the hypothesis, results, and methods. Which this lab report fails to do so this could be improved. In addition, the introduction part of the lab report was good. However, there were mistakes which include unnecessary commas, and space. At the end of the section, there's an awkward sentence "with the use of knowledge and understanding of chemical reactions....", this could be improved with Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. The Enzyme Peroxidase : Lab Report The Enzyme Peroxidase Case Study Lab Report Autumn Vick I. ABSTRACT: The purpose of this experiment is to learn the effects of a certain enzyme (Peroxidase) concentration, to figure out the temperature and pH effects on Peroxidase activity and the effect of an inhibitor. The procedure includes using pH5, H202, Enzyme Extract, and Guaiacol and calibrating a spectrophotometer to determine the effect of enzyme concentration. As the experiment continues, the same reagents are used with the spectrophotometer to determine the temperature and pH effects on Peroxidase activity. Lastly, to determine the effect of an inhibitor on Peroxidase, an inhibitor is added to the extract. It was found that an increase in enzyme concentration also caused an increase in the reaction rate. The reaction rate of peroxidase increases at 40oC. Peroxidase performed the best under pH5 and declined as it became more basic. The inhibitor (Hydroxy–lamine) caused a decline in the reaction rate. The significance of this experiment is to find the optimal living conditions for Peroxidase. This enzyme is vital because it gets rid of hydrogen peroxide, which is toxic to living environments. II. INTRODUCTION: There are thousands of chemical reactions that occur in a cell at every moment. These chemical reactions do not occur randomly, they are highly under the control of biological catalysts called enzymes. Most of these enzymes are proteins. These proteins have certain primary structures directed by Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Hydrogen Peroxidase Experiment In this experiment, the problem question was how does the concentration of an enzyme affect the rate of the enzyme activity? The identified independent variable was the concentration of enzyme (mL). The variable that is affected by the independent variable is the dependent variable which, in this case, is the reaction rate (floating units/minutes). Other variables that stayed unchanged throughout the experiment include the amount of 1% hydrogen peroxide and the room temperature. The hypothesis that was tested in this experiment was if we poured 40 mL of the potato solution (hydrogen peroxidase) into cup 1, then cup 1 will react the fastest because it has the highest concentration of enzymes among the four solutions. Procedure: The materials Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Two Prewriting Methods That Makes Writing Easier Before I enrolled at Daytona State, I attended Phoenix University online where I took the course University Academic Writing. In the beginning of this course, we learnt about the steps of writing an essay by first starting with prewriting. Back in middle school and high school, my only exposure to the concept of prewriting was a type of brainstorming that involves drawing a main circle with the overall topic and then adding adjacent circles with sub–topics, of which then branch out with information. Nowadays, I prefer to use two methods that I learnt in the writing course: invisible writing and outlining. The method I prefer to start with is invisible writing. Invisible writing is a computer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Peroxidase Enzyme Lab To begin the experiment, six 16 x 150 mm test tubes were chosen, three marked "enzyme" and three marked "substrate." For the baseline test using a 10 mL syringe and two 5 mL syringes, 7 mL of distilled water, 0.2 mL of a 0.3% guaiacol solution, and 0.3 mL of 0.1% hydrogen peroxide were added to the first substrate tube, containing a total volume of 7.5 mL. The baseline substrate test tube was then covered with a piece of Parafilm and gently mixed. To the baselineenzyme test tube, 1.5 mL of the standard 25g/400 mL concentration of peroxidase and 6.0 mL of distilled water were added; a piece of Parafilm also covered the tube then the test tube was gently mixed. The other two substrate tubes, one for the low concentration test and one for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Finished Basement Though you may not realize it, your basement can be a major asset. In addition to enhanced storage options and added living space to energy conservation and increased property value, finishing your home basement can offer an array of benefits. Below, the basement remodeling experts at Best Custom Homes in West Salem, WI outline a few of the main advantages. Benefits of a Finished Basement It's Cheaper Than You Might Expect The majority of basement remodeling projects are far less costly than homeowners anticipate, especially when compared to other major of home improvements. In fact, the price per square per square foot is often less costly than any other room of the house. Home improvements like kitchen remodeling, home additions, or a bathroom...show more content... Basement apartments can be just as fancy as any other living space – and may actually offer more living space than traditional apartment units. Depending on your neighborhood and mortgage payment amount, you may be able to request 50–75% of your monthly mortgage as a monthly rent payment. Flexible Living Space Finishing your basement can double your home's available living space. This space can be used for nearly any purpose: a home gym or office, private living quarters for the in laws, a "man cave" for video gaming and Sunday football games, or even a children's play area. Your imagination is the only limit. Storage Galore Finishing your basement is an excellent way to organize your home. Many homeowners "organize" spare junk and stray boxes in random corners and closets around the home. A basement is the ideal place to organize all of the things that do not belong elsewhere or that are used on a limited basis, such as winter sports equipment or holiday decorations, saving you a bundle on a rented storage Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Catalase And Hydrogen Peroxide Reaction Lab Investigating the Effects of Temperature, Inhibitors, Enzyme, and Substrate Concentration on the Velocity of Catalase –Hydrogen Peroxide Reactions By Linsey Coles Abstract This lab served to demonstrate the catalase–catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas under different reaction conditions. This included the investigation of the effects of enzyme concentration, temperature, substrate concentration, and presence of inhibitors on the initial reaction velocity. Because this catalase–hydrogen peroxide reaction is important in biological systems, this lab demonstrates the importance of maintaining homeostasis in cells to provide optimal conditions for these reactions. The experiments were carried out using a eudiometer and primarily concluded that reaction rate is dependent on temperature, substrate...show more content... Abbreviations Exp. – Experiment s – Second Introduction This lab served to demonstrate the reaction between the enzyme catalase and hydrogen peroxide under different environmental conditions and the addition of an inhibitor. This is an important reaction in biological systems. Hydrogen peroxide serves many important roles in the body such as acting in signaling between cells, controlling inflammation at sites of injury (Halliwell et al. Catalase is an enzyme that catalyzes the dissociation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas, preventing the formation of oxidizing hydroxide radicals (Yang et al. 2002). It does this by binding to the hydrogen peroxide. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Peroxidase Reaction Lab Report The purpose of this study was to show the importance of enzyme shape on its ability to properly catalyze reactions by determining the effect of temperature on the specific enzyme peroxidase. Furthermore, the experiment aimed to determine the optimal temperature for peroxidase as well as to determine if the temperature effect is reversible. In order to test this, two test tubes containing pH 5 buffer with peroxidase and two test tubes containing H2O2 with the dye guaiacol were put into baths of either 4В°C, 32 В°C, and 60 В°C as well as test tubes that were left at room temperature. Once the test tubes reached temperature they were all removed from their baths, and one of each mixture was immediately tested in a spectrophotometer while the remaining two were left to recover to room temperature and then tested after recovery. They were observed for two minutes at 20–second intervals....show more content... The mixture at 60 В°C had values of zero for both the at temperature mixtures and the recovered mixture, indicating that the high heat completely denatured the enzyme. This leads to the conclusion that peroxidase has an optimal temperature near 22В°C and anything lower will have low yield, while anything higher will denature. This proves the importance of temperature on enzyme shape and thus Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Enzyme Concentration Lab The Effects of Increasing Enzyme Concentration on Enzyme Function Purpose The purpose of this lab is to test for enzyme activity by examining factors that may influence enzymes. Background The reaction taking place is catalase breaking down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and hydrogen. The enzyme is catalase, the substrate is hydrogen peroxide, and the products are hydrogen and oxygen. The question being tested is when we increase the yeast concentration, what will happen to the rate of the reaction. If increasing yeast concentration affects the rate of reaction, then the time it takes the disc to rise will decrease. Materials 2 Smaller beakers (150–250) Graduated cylinders 10 ml, 50 ml Tweezers Stop watch Filter paper Hole punches 50 mL of Diluted 3%...show more content... Repeat steps 4–6 two more times with new disc. Empty yeast and peroxide beakers. Repeat step 1. Repeat step 2 but with 20 mL Activated yeast (30–37ВєC) (4 grams/125 mL) Create more discs if needed. Repeat steps 4–6 three more times. Clean materials.
  • 13. Results The last set of bars are the average of each trial. Conclusion Our results were more or less what we expected. Increasing the enzyme concentration decreased the time that the disc took to rise to the top of the hydrogen peroxide. In our procedure we quadrupled the the enzyme concentration, which decreased the time the disc took to rise to the top by 64% (from the average). Because of the outcome, we can say that our hypothesis was correct. The average for the trials of activated yeast, 1g/125mL, was 94 seconds until the disc reached the top of the hydrogen peroxide. However, the average for the trials of activated yeast, 2g/68mL, was 34 seconds until the disc reached the top. It is clear that the 2g/68mL mixture was faster. This happened because since there are more enzymes, the chemical reaction(converting hydrogen peroxide to oxygen and hydrogen) can be completed much Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. My Writing Process Analysis Most writers and student can find, that the start of any essays comes with many challenges that can be in some cases very intimidating. This challenge has been a conflict for me, but with the collaboration of my previous English teachers changed my writing drastically. Although it is safe to say that no writing is perfect including myself, however, I will still continue to improve my writing process that will help guide myself, writers and other students overcome this challenge. There are many ways to write a proper essay and different stages of the writing process. As well as the few tips that could possibly help you write an enhanced essay. The stages of the writing process that helped me write an essay the most are the Prewriting, Writing, Self–evaluation/self–revising and peer editing, and lastly finalizing the finished essay. Prewriting in my case is to be considered the simplest process, even though it is crucial in any essay. The reason behind it is that it consists of generating ideas through brainstorming (for me jotting the idea down on a paper), as well as engaging in free writing (writing everything that comes to...show more content... One purpose is to correct all major and minor mistakes such as: adding additional or missing information, replacing unwanted information, rearranging the paragraph so the essay has continuity, and fixing grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes. The other purpose is to provide critical feedback on how I can enhance my essay even more. • 16. Wow. I just finished my last semester as an undergraduate student, and my last semester in school for the foreseeable future. After spending the last 17 years of my life as a 'student' I don't think it has quite hit me that I am essentially done. Looking back at all of this school, one thing rings true. It is the courses which pushed me outside of my comfort zone that I remember best. From my Arabic class in Morocco, to my first ever music class, to the first time I was told to write poetry, these are the courses that don't blend in with the backdrop of my education. These courses stand out because they required more work, and because they forced me to think outside of my normal pattern. Arabs and Muslims in the Media has been one of...show more content... Because it actually caused me to look back and think differently about the media that I consume, which is a learning outcome that I did not anticipate from this class. The most powerful part of that book, for me, was the discussion of 'preferred meaning,' and how even media that supposedly has positive Arab or Muslim characters can still have a problematic thesis. Now that we have read and discussed this book, I am starting to see examples of it everywhere. Just a few days ago, I saw a news article talking about a FBI operative who married a jihadist and "went rogue," which is just a different way for the author to say "went Muslim." Beginning to see examples of this everywhere is good for me. I tend to consider myself as being more biased towards Islam than against it. I have seen too much warmth and hospitality from Muslim friends to feel differently. But I have realized that I have been subconsciously drawing a mental divide, between my experiences and the media's portrayals. Obviously, I would still have been frustrated with more blatant problematic portrayals, but I never would have looked at (for example) Kingdom of Heaven as fitting into that category. The fact that this class has broken down some of those walls for me, and has lead me to see more clearly the sheer scope of the problem is probably the most significant way in which this class will have an effect on my life going Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. My Goals Of Finishing School Personal experience is away you go through things without knowing it at first, but after all.....you could say you have experienced it, rather you wanted to or not. Finishing school is one of my biggest goals. Not just for me but for my parents. I want to make my Mother and Father proud. Show them they've did their job as a parent and raising a successful child that knows more than what I knew better. My 12 grade year of high school. I went to a school called , Jordan Christen Prep. They've told me their was an accredit high school. They could help me reach my goals and graduate (ON TIME) and also get my where I need to be . Instead none of those things weren't true. Before I known those things .... I was pushing myself, working harder, harder , even harder, very hard to get finished .When I found out they wasn't an accredit school my mom was quick to ask the school for my withdrawal papers. She took me to Winter Haven High School , as im enrolling...show more content... A week later the guidance called me down and spoke to me about what's going to happen. "Ta'quasia you have completed everything so far. But your scores wouldn't be back on time before graduation day, so its nothing else we could do at this point." The guidance had said. I cried cried and cried, I walked out the guidance office unhappy and sad. At that point I had to wait all the way until next year to complete high school and graduate. I did everything I can to motivate myself to have my mother them proud that same year , I told them I could do it , I never gave up , that's what matters the most. After all that happen I still asked teachers, what is another option I can participate in. if anything was possible I was down to do it. I was never going to give up . At this point I had to call my parents, they encouraged me to not give up and pushed me as I pushed Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Catalase Lab The Effect of pH on the Rate of Enzyme Catalysis of Catalase Objectives: The objective of this lab was to develop a protocol to investigate the effect of an environmental variable on the catalytic function of an enzyme. More specifically, the objective was to perform an experiment in order to test the effect ofpH on the function of the enzyme catalase. Introduction: Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts for reactions. This simply means that enzymes lower the activation energy required for a reaction to take place, allowing a particular reaction to take place much quicker and easier. Specific enzymes only lower the activation energy for specific reactions, and enzymes are shape–specific. The unique folds of the amino...show more content... A syringe was used to add potassium permanganate, one drop at a time, to the solution until a persistent pinkish brown color was obtained. The solution was gently swirled as drops were added. The amount of potassium permanganate used is proportional to the amount of hydrogen peroxide present, and was therefore used as the baseline. Data: Potassium Permanganate (ml)| pH Level| pH Level| pH Level| pH Level| | Control (7)| 6| 5| 3| A. Baseline| 7 ml| 7 ml| 7 ml| 7 ml| B. Final Reading| 4 ml| 3.6 ml| 3.0 ml| 2.1 ml| C. P Generation Hypothesis The first hypothesis stated that the parents in the P generation should exhibit a single mutant gene to yield progenies in the F1 generation manifest the Bar eye mutation. Therefore, female in the P generation had a single Bar eye mutation crossed with vestigial male according to the first hypothesis as shown in figure 1. The second hypothesis was the reciprocal cross of the first hypothesis in which male in the P generation had a single Bar eye mutation crossed with vestigial female according to figure 2. In the first hypothesis, when Bar eye female crossed with vestigial male in the P generation, they yielded Bar eye male and Bar eye female in the F1 generation as shown in figure 1. Then, when the F1 generation crossed, they yielded F2...show more content... First step, one of the major issues was that all members in the group did not pay attention to the gender of flies in each vial of the unknown P cross of the F1 generation. The number of male and female might not equal to ratio 1:1 in each vial which led to have an error because Bar eye mutation is a dominant X– linked gene that does not assort independently while vestigial wing mutation is autosomal mutation located on chromosome number 2. As a result, vestigial gene assorts independently and does not play significant role with gender in the next generation: however, gender played significant role when determining mutation specifically for Bar eye mutation. Second, there was no differences in the traits as flies observed in first count on April 10 and second count on April 17. Third, there was a difficulty while transferring flies from the vails to the nap chamber. Flies in some vials remained sticking in the food gel due to knocking issue. Some vials accidently knocking aggressively made the flies stick in the food gel. Also, some fruit flies flied and some of them killed accidently while putting the stopper because transferring the flies were quickly from the vials to the nap chamber. Growth condition were not good for some vials that made the group to discard some vials and used the backup vials due to contamination and bacterial infection that killed the flies in some vials. Finally, according to table 4, the individual Chi square for vial A, C, and D was lower than the critical value and support the hypothesis; however, Vial E showed Chi square value greater than the critical value which rejected the hypothesis. Vial E during the second count was not knocked to get the flies away from the stopper which made some of them to fly while transferring them to the nap Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Why Nice Guys Finish Last Analysis A popular phrase growing up might have been "don't believe everything you see on the internet." Many websites, newspapers, magazines, and networks may not present accurate information. A document can display information in a professional manner, but the information itself can be biased, and unsupported by evidence, ultimately making the presented information more of an opinion opposed to factual information. They are certainly hard to find, but credible and unbiased information does exist. "Being WEIRD: How Culture Shapes the Mind," by Ethan Watters, has every quality that is expected of a credible document, as well as "Why Nice Guys Finish Last," by Julia Serano, and "The weirdest people in the world?," by Joseph Henrich, Steven J. Heine,...show more content... Many times these journals of observations are reviewed by others in the scientific community, and typical specialize in the field of study that the journal takes place. "The weirdest people in the world?," by Joseph Henrich, Steven J. Heine, and Ara Norenzayan, is an example of such a journal. Henrich, Heine, and Norenzayan are all part of the department of psychology at the University of British Columbia. To look for some of the most credible information the best places to turn to are educational institutions, as they are the sources for some of the most accurate and reliable information available. Knowing that the three researchers are part of the psychology department at a university assures the reader that their journal contains legitimate and factual information. The document is comprised of direct observations that were recorded by Henrich and his colleagues. They go on to compare and contrast their findings with that of different societies (mostly comparing the United States because it is a shining example of a society comprised of W.E.I.R.D people, or western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic people) , and provide plenty background information. An example of this in the text would be "Below we highlight some findings from this research showing that, compared to diverse populations of non– Westerners, Westerners (1) attend more to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
