Child Welfare Services Essay
The Term topic I chose to research about is Child Welfare Services. This topic has a variety of different regulations and forms that makes this
program run. Child Welfare Services have been around for quite some time and has been helping out as much as they are allowed to. This program has
a time line of many important events that all build up the Child Welfare program. First off in 1909 the white house had the first national Conference on
the Care of Dependent Children (Child Welfare League of America, n.d.). These were actually seven different conferences that went on from 1909 to
1970 in Washington, D.C. The purpose to these conferences was to positively develop children's lives across the nation. These conferences covered,

The Social Security act benefited many people. Those who fell in this category were workers, victims of industrial accidents, unemployed insurance,
aid for dependent mothers and children, the blind, and the handicapped. This Social Security act was later signed into law, by current president at the
time, Roosevelt. (Social Welfare History Project, n.d.) Moving along the line in 1970 was when the CWLA helped establish the National Foster
Parents Association. In August 1971, this CWLA program received a three–year grant to create an organization based for foster parents. This
association was established as an outcome of the concerns of the independent groups. The people felt that the country needed a program to meet the
needs of the foster families in the U.S (Family Plus, n.d.). In 1980 the Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare became law. The tenacity was to create a
program of adoption assistance to ultimately serve different criteria's. Its purpose was to strengthen the program of foster care assistance for the needy
and dependent children, improve child welfare as well as social services and aid to families with dependent children programs (child Welfare
Information Gateway, 2012). There are a myriad of different historical information that can lead and relate to the cause of the Child Welfare services.
These are all just bits and pieces of importance that historically gives this program

My Experience As A Social Worker
Since my experience as a Social Worker has mainly been focused with the youth population, during the course of my career I had to develop very
creative skills to engage such population. They experienced inevitable unremitting stress, such as poverty, failing education and exposure to
community and interpersonal violence, being aware or pay attention to a task, was very difficult to them. I have done my work with a lot a passion,
but since I started the CMF Program, I gained a level of awareness that also gave me a much needed compassionate space for my own suffer and made
me get closer to my identity and purpose. I realized that presence is cultivated by practicing being mindful in the smallest occasion, being connected
with intention and always requesting an invitation to create a space where relationships and connections occur. It's about the quality of our attention,
and the quality of our thoughts. Without being aware, we create and reproduce structures of domination and biases, by blocking personal growth and
continuing marginalization. I have worked on a very real communication, not patronizing my ideas, or hide my weakness. I try vigilantly to praise and
appreciate the common human sensitivity, and have an appreciation to see the how the awareness development occurs on the participants that come to
my meetings. I have refreshed my skills as a facilitator by always paying attention on how I make my presence to others. I have tried to meet my

Human Services: Social Services Essay example
As time passes by, life gets more challenging for many people out there, in our community. There are those who become disadvantaged such as the
handicapped, those who are unemployed, and those who come of age and are in need of special attention. Luckily there are specific organizations
which address these needs in the community, like senior care centers or shelters. Also, there are big charities that take in patients with no income,
patients that are diagnosed with diseases, and those who suffer from isolation. Many organizations such as Caritas of Austin, Crisis Assistance
Ministry, Camphill Village Kimberton Hills, and Homeland Center are charities which assist their communities in times of recession, poverty, and

Similarly, to Caritas, Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) is a religious affiliated charity that assists people in poverty and in economic hardships.
Due to an economic fall in the 1970s, concerns of how to assist families in low income were being brought into discussion. Shortly after, Crisis
Assistance Ministry opened and began to address these needs in 1975. Unlike, Caritas, CAM's prime focus is assisting lower income individuals
with financing resources, rather than delivering meals to the homeless. However, CAM does hold a department called "Free Store" which supports
their value of dignity by providing clothes and other items such as furniture free of charge, allowing the homeless and families in need to save the
money for basic needs. "It is our mission to provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self–sufficiency"
(Our Mission, Vision...). CAM's financial assistance program is divided into two categories–rent and utilities. Individuals on the verge of losing their
home or apartment are qualified to seek help from CAM. They may be able to support the individual with a portion of their mortgage. Counseling is
also available to discuss different ways of how to maintain a better credit and management of income. As to utilities, similar to rent, if the individual is
at risk of having their utilities cut off, they are qualified for CAM to help

When I was seven, my family was involved in a head–on collision where our Chevy Nova hydroplaned into a Dodge Ram. Severe injuries that
occurred both in this accident and a second one two years later (caused by a drunk driver), resulted in both of my parents being permanently
disabled and piles of medical bills. By the time I was in the 5th grade my mom and I became heavily involved in various volunteer organizations
for low income families, particularly Neighbor Impact and a similar group called Bread of Life. For years these two programs kept my family
financially afloat.. I would like to pursue this career in order to help connect families like mine with various resources that will help them get back
on their feet. Social workers are the critical bridge between families and the resources that they need. The job of those specializing in child and
family services may include protecting children and families from domestic abuse, discrimination, and illness. They also help with connecting
families with resources like food stamps, homes, and psychological treatments. In order to accurately and efficiently perform their job, a caseworker
needs to be dedicated and organized as there are ample amounts of paperwork required for each case. An individual pursuing a career in casework
also has to be fairly strong and fit as they are often on call and may have to visit client's homes. In some situations they may have to physically restrain
someone in order to protect themselves or

Social Services Code Of Ethics
The social work field focuses on a variety of tasks that ensure the wellbeing and social justice of people in society, which is carried out by following
the Code of Ethics. Through maintaining professional relationships with clients, social workers assess both the presenting issues at hand and the
environment in order to understand what measures need to be taken. This journal is about first impressions of social work agencies and how they
influence one's interactions with them. This journal also delves into how social services assessments may be used to identify how to interact with
clients in the most appropriate manner, depending on their needs, how long their stay is, etc. Finally, this journal will explore the ways in which the

Human Rights And Social Work
Starting with Jane Adams in the early 20th century, human rights were at the forefront of her work with the Hull House which helped establish the
social work profession as we know it (Healy, 2008). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the values set and regulated by the NASW share a
common theme focusing on, dignity, self–determination, and improving the quality of life for everyone. Social workers are on the forefront of
advocating for, and creating social change, and justice (NASW, 2015). Social work constantly challenges racism, discrimination and the inhumane
treatment of vulnerable people.
Internationally the social work profession attempts to link vulnerable populations with basic needs like, food, healthcare, housing, and equality all
which reflect article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (United Nations, 2014). Social workers wear many hats, and have established
roles in many institutions like hospitals, schools, nursing homes, acting as liaisons between the establishments and individuals who seek their services
(Reichert, 2007).
2. What social work practices might constrain human rights?
The Social work is a profession not only rewards merit, but there is also a monetary gain. The majority of qualified social workers are employed by
local government agencies which can create a conflict of interest because of their obligation, and commitment to their employer. The government
agencies have their own political and financial agenda that can be

Social Work Practice : Client Assessment
In social work practice, client assessments are important because they allow social workers to gather information from clients. This information helps
the acting social worker better understand clients presenting problems. The assessment also helps social workers evaluate a client's progress and
evaluate the effectiveness of interventions used. In this paper, a multidimensional assessment will be performed on a client I have been working with
at my internship placement, Urban Ministries of Durham. Once all relevant information is presented, and intervention and treatment plan will be
discussed. Client Information and History Identifying and Demographic Information Client (AM) is a 20–year–old heterosexual African American
female, born in Durham, and currently still resides there. Her primary language is English. She lives with her 13 moth old child (NM) in a
one–bedroom apartment. The client is unemployed and currently receives SSI benefits. AM resides in subsidized housing because of her social
security income. Client did not finish high school and has no desire to do so. Social/Family/Environment History Client's parents were never married
and ended their relationship when her mother was still pregnant with her. The client has 6 siblings. She has not had contact with her father and does
not know where he is located. Her mother has refused to discuss him with her. Her mother has had several different live–in boyfriends. Client and her

Social Service Organizations Essay
Today there is a great need for social service organizations. The population of a lot of cities and countries has grown, creating the need for more
shelters, soup kitchens, and so on. Most of these organizations are church based and community founded. Then there are others that are funded by
federal and state government.
The Durham Rescue Mission is a church based organization. They provide a lot of help and shelter for the homeless and for low–income families.
Reverend Ernie C. Mills founded the mission in 1974. The first mission was just a two–story house. It has since then grown to be a about the size of an
average church.
The mission is open to the public year round, and does not close its doors. There is always someone there to...show more content...
There are a lot of young single mothers out there that have kids and can't provide for them. The either don't have the know how or just don't have the
support group that they need. There are also a lot of families that have lost everything due to loss of jobs of natural disaster. These people need a place
to stay till they get back on their feet, and they also may need a little family counseling. Then there is the whole homeless issue, these people have
nowhere to go and need food and the bare necessities like everyone else.
When it comes to things like shelters and helping others there are always some ethical issues behind them. Then again there are ethical issues
behind everything. Here are a couple of them. Whether or not you are doing the right thing by helping these people. If your motive for doing it is
right, Should they if they are not Christian be subjected to the Christian faith? I believe that it is the right thing to do. Helping people wherever
you can will and always will be the right thing to do. As far the motive whatever it is, if you are doing the right thing then it is ok with me. The
person that you help is not going too care if you did it just to impress someone. However if you are not a Christian and you do go into a Christian
shelter you had prior knowledge of where you were going. If you don't like what they are telling about God and you don't want to here it then don't go
back.

Government Controlled Social Service Essay
In our Society, We are faced with many social problems, such as Healthcare, unemployment, and housing. Government officials implemented social
policies to enhance social welfare by providing assistance for many populations in need. However, low income families (single mothers and the
working class) are stigmatized against as the government primarily provides aid for this vulnerable population. Therefore, as social service providers
we feel limited with resources for our clients and it prohibits clients from obtaining adequate assistance needed. In my paper, my personal views will
be addressed and the ideas of Bruce Jansson incorporating two readings. The readings are: The Symbiotic and Uneasy Relationship between Clients,

In addition, a vast majority of our population requesting services or are in need of services are immigrants. Though it may appear that the government
demonstrates minimal concern for the well–being of immigrants and other vulnerable populations, it is beneficial that welfare state has been created.
According to Jansson, "Vulnerable populations need a welfare state, moreover, because they are more likely to experience poverty exists
disproportionately, for example, among single women with children, persons of color, and person with mental or physical challenges. If no
governmental safety net programs existed, many members of these groups would not even be able to meet their survival needs, such as food, medical
care, income and housing" (Jansson, 2009, p.5). My personal opinion is the government automatically assumes that the individuals in vulnerable
populations chose their way of life without making an effort to advance themselves. However, assumptions should not be made as we cannot determine
all vulnerable groups to encounter the same ordeal, which led them to their circumstances. For example, one individual may have come from another
country and is trying to assimilate to their new environment. However, it is difficult for them as they have difficulty communicating due to language
barriers and adapting to a new culture. Another person may be a female citizen, whose husband passed away leaving no collateral for the family, as he

Privatization of Social Services Essay
The Benefits of Privatization of Social Services
Contracting out is the process through which public organizations contract with private sector organizations to provide services normally provided by
public agencies. It is a form of privatization, which is defined as any shift of activity or functions from the state to the private sector, more specifically,
the shift of production of goods or services from public to private. (Starr, 5) Privatization reduces the role of government and increases the role of
private sector agencies. However, public agencies maintain ultimate control over the provision of services and they control government funding.
In an effort to reduce costs, enhance efficiency or improve services, many states...show more content...
Like most public agencies, DPSS operates under the elite model of organizational structure. This structure dictates that formal rules and process are
followed in order to reach the organization's goals. Therefore, in order to effectively contract out and maintain and effective organization, management
must engage in the practice of well–known management principles (POSDCORB). Practicing the principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing,
coordinating, reporting, and budgeting, management can make sound decisions about the implementation and management of contracts. The
effectiveness and efficiency in which the agency is run and the manner in which the contract is managed is grounded in the effective practice of these
principles.
In this research paper I will discuss the process of contracting out, issues of cost, credibility, accountability, and quality and quantity of services. My
discussion will also include reasons for contracting out, opposition, and advantages and problems of contracting out.
REASONS FOR CONTRACTING OUT
Research indicates that there are several valid reasons for contracting out:
To obtain special skills or supplemental staff.
To meet demands beyond current government capacity.
To improve service quality.
To provide clients with more choice of providers and levels of service. (Nightingale

Motivation for social service and/or social change, social work education, and a career in the profession.
I am interested in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville MSSW program because the school offers a great online program for working students.
As I read through the program layout and information I was impressed with their classes and the support from the staff. I feel all students will
complete a program with support and guidance like the University of Tennessee has offered me. The people who graduated from there have shown
respect, desire, and love for the school as well as their degree they earned. It is an amazing thing to see. I am excited to join the team.
Also, in my past there has been instances that have drawn me to the field of social work. I have had a few family members who have had several
different issues dealing with drugs, abuse, and their children being placed in foster care. In one case I took one of the children into my home and
my parents took three children into their home. Every family has some different situations, but these incidents have opened my eyes to many new
things. This is one of the reasons I feel social work would be a good fit for me. I enjoy helping others build themselves up and make a better life for
them and their families. It is a blessing to be part of a team who helps families, children, and groups in need. Helping children get out of bad situations
is one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever have in life.

The Theory And Practice Of Social Planning Essay
Introduction Social planning is limited by the top–down and trickle down approaches that proliferate and impact on social concerns. Neoliberal
ideologues and theories primarily based on the economy have impacted on the social investment context of social planning and development. In this
essay, a brief explanation of social planning and its function in relation to top–down and bottom–up change is discussed and evaluated. Further, the
duality between theory and practice of social planning is presented. The social learning and communicative model for planning and its relation to power
imbalances are discussed. Neoliberal economic agendas and coercive social reform mechanisms are evaluated. Needs and impact assessment tools are
discussed. Finally, the inclusive economic and social system that compliments environmental protection is presented as the solution to social planning's
limitations. When social planning is able to consider the three dimensions of inclusive growth, such as social development, economic development, and
environmental protection; it can foster equitable processes that create sustainable development. Response Social planning is defined as a complex
process regarding community issues and community development by the people and/or institutions invested. The contemporary aim of social planners
is to facilitate the planning process appropriately and justly to ultimately seek justice for all. Ideally, the community needs are met by collaborative

The Role of a Social Worker Essay
The role of a social worker
What is a social work? "Social work is a profession which promotes social change and problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment
and liberation of people to enhance wellbeing. Utilizing theories of human behaviour and social systems, social work intervenes at the point where
people interact with their environments. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work". (Understanding Social work, Neil
Thompson, 2005, page 13, 2nd Edition)

also have to ensure that they have not falsely accused someone or assessed a case or further more even provided the wrong/incorrect service. They also
have to provide reports to the Justice System (The Court), to help in ascertaining the most useful outcome.
In some circumstances during their career, a Social Workers will have to investigate high risk level families that have an open case against them, as
part of their case files. Once a court order has been granted, the Social worker then has the power and the duty to intervene and remove the child. One
would then believe that the child is safe, secure and away from the abuse and neglect he suffered. However; the Social workers aspiration is to, in
some cases reconcile the family and to keep the child in the family home. The society can not understand some of the methods that are used by the
Social workers and this particular method highlighted above is one that cannot be comprehended by many.
This then leaves the Social worker open to more criticism, as this method of putting the child back into the family home, collides with the Social
Worker's role and function. Which

Putting food on the table may become a difficult task putting the family at risk for hunger (Martin, 2011).
Ways in which human services professionals can meet the needs of families and children are to actively listen to each individual's perception of
the problem and address each issue. If the worker is qualified to provide counseling sessions, such as a marriage and family therapist, single
members in addition to the family as a whole should receive services. Referrals should be given to the family if the worker cannot provide counsel
(Martin, 2011). A family social worker can assist in providing resources for food, medical, housing, child care and utility assistance, support in filling
out appropriate paperwork should be offered as well. Professionals can offer referrals to legal assistance offices in order for a single parent to obtain
child support. Informing those in this population of the means for furthering their education can help them regain their independence. Aschool social

Child Welfare Services Essay

  • 1. Child Welfare Services Essay The Term topic I chose to research about is Child Welfare Services. This topic has a variety of different regulations and forms that makes this program run. Child Welfare Services have been around for quite some time and has been helping out as much as they are allowed to. This program has a time line of many important events that all build up the Child Welfare program. First off in 1909 the white house had the first national Conference on the Care of Dependent Children (Child Welfare League of America, n.d.). These were actually seven different conferences that went on from 1909 to 1970 in Washington, D.C. The purpose to these conferences was to positively develop children's lives across the nation. These conferences covered, "Democracy...show more content... The Social Security act benefited many people. Those who fell in this category were workers, victims of industrial accidents, unemployed insurance, aid for dependent mothers and children, the blind, and the handicapped. This Social Security act was later signed into law, by current president at the time, Roosevelt. (Social Welfare History Project, n.d.) Moving along the line in 1970 was when the CWLA helped establish the National Foster Parents Association. In August 1971, this CWLA program received a three–year grant to create an organization based for foster parents. This association was established as an outcome of the concerns of the independent groups. The people felt that the country needed a program to meet the needs of the foster families in the U.S (Family Plus, n.d.). In 1980 the Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare became law. The tenacity was to create a program of adoption assistance to ultimately serve different criteria's. Its purpose was to strengthen the program of foster care assistance for the needy and dependent children, improve child welfare as well as social services and aid to families with dependent children programs (child Welfare Information Gateway, 2012). There are a myriad of different historical information that can lead and relate to the cause of the Child Welfare services. These are all just bits and pieces of importance that historically gives this program Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. My Experience As A Social Worker Since my experience as a Social Worker has mainly been focused with the youth population, during the course of my career I had to develop very creative skills to engage such population. They experienced inevitable unremitting stress, such as poverty, failing education and exposure to community and interpersonal violence, being aware or pay attention to a task, was very difficult to them. I have done my work with a lot a passion, but since I started the CMF Program, I gained a level of awareness that also gave me a much needed compassionate space for my own suffer and made me get closer to my identity and purpose. I realized that presence is cultivated by practicing being mindful in the smallest occasion, being connected with intention and always requesting an invitation to create a space where relationships and connections occur. It's about the quality of our attention, and the quality of our thoughts. Without being aware, we create and reproduce structures of domination and biases, by blocking personal growth and continuing marginalization. I have worked on a very real communication, not patronizing my ideas, or hide my weakness. I try vigilantly to praise and appreciate the common human sensitivity, and have an appreciation to see the how the awareness development occurs on the participants that come to my meetings. I have refreshed my skills as a facilitator by always paying attention on how I make my presence to others. I have tried to meet my clients, friends, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Human Services: Social Services Essay example As time passes by, life gets more challenging for many people out there, in our community. There are those who become disadvantaged such as the handicapped, those who are unemployed, and those who come of age and are in need of special attention. Luckily there are specific organizations which address these needs in the community, like senior care centers or shelters. Also, there are big charities that take in patients with no income, patients that are diagnosed with diseases, and those who suffer from isolation. Many organizations such as Caritas of Austin, Crisis Assistance Ministry, Camphill Village Kimberton Hills, and Homeland Center are charities which assist their communities in times of recession, poverty, and special assistance....show more content... (Caritas of Austin) Similarly, to Caritas, Crisis Assistance Ministry (CAM) is a religious affiliated charity that assists people in poverty and in economic hardships. Due to an economic fall in the 1970s, concerns of how to assist families in low income were being brought into discussion. Shortly after, Crisis Assistance Ministry opened and began to address these needs in 1975. Unlike, Caritas, CAM's prime focus is assisting lower income individuals with financing resources, rather than delivering meals to the homeless. However, CAM does hold a department called "Free Store" which supports their value of dignity by providing clothes and other items such as furniture free of charge, allowing the homeless and families in need to save the money for basic needs. "It is our mission to provide assistance and advocacy for people in financial crisis, helping them move toward self–sufficiency" (Our Mission, Vision...). CAM's financial assistance program is divided into two categories–rent and utilities. Individuals on the verge of losing their home or apartment are qualified to seek help from CAM. They may be able to support the individual with a portion of their mortgage. Counseling is also available to discuss different ways of how to maintain a better credit and management of income. As to utilities, similar to rent, if the individual is at risk of having their utilities cut off, they are qualified for CAM to help Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. When I was seven, my family was involved in a head–on collision where our Chevy Nova hydroplaned into a Dodge Ram. Severe injuries that occurred both in this accident and a second one two years later (caused by a drunk driver), resulted in both of my parents being permanently disabled and piles of medical bills. By the time I was in the 5th grade my mom and I became heavily involved in various volunteer organizations for low income families, particularly Neighbor Impact and a similar group called Bread of Life. For years these two programs kept my family financially afloat.. I would like to pursue this career in order to help connect families like mine with various resources that will help them get back on their feet. Social workers are the critical bridge between families and the resources that they need. The job of those specializing in child and family services may include protecting children and families from domestic abuse, discrimination, and illness. They also help with connecting families with resources like food stamps, homes, and psychological treatments. In order to accurately and efficiently perform their job, a caseworker needs to be dedicated and organized as there are ample amounts of paperwork required for each case. An individual pursuing a career in casework also has to be fairly strong and fit as they are often on call and may have to visit client's homes. In some situations they may have to physically restrain someone in order to protect themselves or Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Through maintaining professional relationships with clients, social workers assess both the presenting issues at hand and the environment in order to understand what measures need to be taken. This journal is about first impressions of social work agencies and how they influence one's interactions with them. This journal also delves into how social services assessments may be used to identify how to interact with clients in the most appropriate manner, depending on their needs, how long their stay is, etc. Finally, this journal will explore the ways in which the relationships Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Human Rights And Social Work Starting with Jane Adams in the early 20th century, human rights were at the forefront of her work with the Hull House which helped establish the social work profession as we know it (Healy, 2008). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the values set and regulated by the NASW share a common theme focusing on, dignity, self–determination, and improving the quality of life for everyone. Social workers are on the forefront of advocating for, and creating social change, and justice (NASW, 2015). Social work constantly challenges racism, discrimination and the inhumane treatment of vulnerable people. Internationally the social work profession attempts to link vulnerable populations with basic needs like, food, healthcare, housing, and equality all which reflect article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (United Nations, 2014). Social workers wear many hats, and have established roles in many institutions like hospitals, schools, nursing homes, acting as liaisons between the establishments and individuals who seek their services (Reichert, 2007). 2. What social work practices might constrain human rights? The Social work is a profession not only rewards merit, but there is also a monetary gain. The majority of qualified social workers are employed by local government agencies which can create a conflict of interest because of their obligation, and commitment to their employer. The government agencies have their own political and financial agenda that can be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Social Work Practice : Client Assessment In social work practice, client assessments are important because they allow social workers to gather information from clients. This information helps the acting social worker better understand clients presenting problems. The assessment also helps social workers evaluate a client's progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions used. In this paper, a multidimensional assessment will be performed on a client I have been working with at my internship placement, Urban Ministries of Durham. Once all relevant information is presented, and intervention and treatment plan will be discussed. Client Information and History Identifying and Demographic Information Client (AM) is a 20–year–old heterosexual African American female, born in Durham, and currently still resides there. Her primary language is English. She lives with her 13 moth old child (NM) in a one–bedroom apartment. The client is unemployed and currently receives SSI benefits. AM resides in subsidized housing because of her social security income. Client did not finish high school and has no desire to do so. Social/Family/Environment History Client's parents were never married and ended their relationship when her mother was still pregnant with her. The client has 6 siblings. She has not had contact with her father and does not know where he is located. Her mother has refused to discuss him with her. Her mother has had several different live–in boyfriends. Client and her siblings have been in foster care on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Social Service Organizations Essay Today there is a great need for social service organizations. The population of a lot of cities and countries has grown, creating the need for more shelters, soup kitchens, and so on. Most of these organizations are church based and community founded. Then there are others that are funded by federal and state government. The Durham Rescue Mission is a church based organization. They provide a lot of help and shelter for the homeless and for low–income families. Reverend Ernie C. Mills founded the mission in 1974. The first mission was just a two–story house. It has since then grown to be a about the size of an average church. The mission is open to the public year round, and does not close its doors. There is always someone there to...show more content... There are a lot of young single mothers out there that have kids and can't provide for them. The either don't have the know how or just don't have the support group that they need. There are also a lot of families that have lost everything due to loss of jobs of natural disaster. These people need a place to stay till they get back on their feet, and they also may need a little family counseling. Then there is the whole homeless issue, these people have nowhere to go and need food and the bare necessities like everyone else. When it comes to things like shelters and helping others there are always some ethical issues behind them. Then again there are ethical issues behind everything. Here are a couple of them. Whether or not you are doing the right thing by helping these people. If your motive for doing it is right, Should they if they are not Christian be subjected to the Christian faith? I believe that it is the right thing to do. Helping people wherever you can will and always will be the right thing to do. As far the motive whatever it is, if you are doing the right thing then it is ok with me. The person that you help is not going too care if you did it just to impress someone. However if you are not a Christian and you do go into a Christian shelter you had prior knowledge of where you were going. If you don't like what they are telling about God and you don't want to here it then don't go back. The mission it self does a great Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Government Controlled Social Service Essay In our Society, We are faced with many social problems, such as Healthcare, unemployment, and housing. Government officials implemented social policies to enhance social welfare by providing assistance for many populations in need. However, low income families (single mothers and the working class) are stigmatized against as the government primarily provides aid for this vulnerable population. Therefore, as social service providers we feel limited with resources for our clients and it prohibits clients from obtaining adequate assistance needed. In my paper, my personal views will be addressed and the ideas of Bruce Jansson incorporating two readings. The readings are: The Symbiotic and Uneasy Relationship between Clients, Social...show more content... In addition, a vast majority of our population requesting services or are in need of services are immigrants. Though it may appear that the government demonstrates minimal concern for the well–being of immigrants and other vulnerable populations, it is beneficial that welfare state has been created. According to Jansson, "Vulnerable populations need a welfare state, moreover, because they are more likely to experience poverty exists disproportionately, for example, among single women with children, persons of color, and person with mental or physical challenges. If no governmental safety net programs existed, many members of these groups would not even be able to meet their survival needs, such as food, medical care, income and housing" (Jansson, 2009, p.5). My personal opinion is the government automatically assumes that the individuals in vulnerable populations chose their way of life without making an effort to advance themselves. However, assumptions should not be made as we cannot determine all vulnerable groups to encounter the same ordeal, which led them to their circumstances. For example, one individual may have come from another country and is trying to assimilate to their new environment. However, it is difficult for them as they have difficulty communicating due to language barriers and adapting to a new culture. • 14. Privatization of Social Services Essay The Benefits of Privatization of Social Services Contracting out is the process through which public organizations contract with private sector organizations to provide services normally provided by public agencies. It is a form of privatization, which is defined as any shift of activity or functions from the state to the private sector, more specifically, the shift of production of goods or services from public to private. (Starr, 5) Privatization reduces the role of government and increases the role of private sector agencies. However, public agencies maintain ultimate control over the provision of services and they control government funding. In an effort to reduce costs, enhance efficiency or improve services, many states...show more content... Like most public agencies, DPSS operates under the elite model of organizational structure. This structure dictates that formal rules and process are followed in order to reach the organization's goals. Therefore, in order to effectively contract out and maintain and effective organization, management must engage in the practice of well–known management principles (POSDCORB). Practicing the principles of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting, management can make sound decisions about the implementation and management of contracts. The effectiveness and efficiency in which the agency is run and the manner in which the contract is managed is grounded in the effective practice of these principles. In this research paper I will discuss the process of contracting out, issues of cost, credibility, accountability, and quality and quantity of services. My discussion will also include reasons for contracting out, opposition, and advantages and problems of contracting out. REASONS FOR CONTRACTING OUT Research indicates that there are several valid reasons for contracting out: To obtain special skills or supplemental staff. To meet demands beyond current government capacity. To improve service quality. To provide clients with more choice of providers and levels of service. (Nightingale

I am interested in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville MSSW program because the school offers a great online program for working students. As I read through the program layout and information I was impressed with their classes and the support from the staff. I feel all students will complete a program with support and guidance like the University of Tennessee has offered me. The people who graduated from there have shown respect, desire, and love for the school as well as their degree they earned. It is an amazing thing to see. I am excited to join the team. Also, in my past there has been instances that have drawn me to the field of social work. I have had a few family members who have had several different issues dealing with drugs, abuse, and their children being placed in foster care. In one case I took one of the children into my home and my parents took three children into their home. Every family has some different situations, but these incidents have opened my eyes to many new things. This is one of the reasons I feel social work would be a good fit for me. I enjoy helping others build themselves up and make a better life for them and their families. It is a blessing to be part of a team who helps families, children, and groups in need. Helping children get out of bad situations is one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever have in life. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
