Persuasive Essay On The Death Penalty
The death sentence has been a part of our society for as long as the concept of laws have been in place. It has always been looked at favorably, due to the idea that it would punish the wicked people of society, or traitors of a society. Even as society has progressed, the death penalty remains a staple as punishment handed down to those that were deemed as not being part of society; whether it was criminals, heretics, or people that may have challenged the status quo. However, as our societies have entered its current modern age, the idea of the death penalty as punishment has begun to decrease across the world. As of now, 140 countries have banned it by law, and in practice. (International) Out of the countries that still implement the death penalty, the United States of America ranks fifth among those countries that still use it. Within the United States, it has been observed that African Americans are more inclined to be sentenced to death when the victim is Caucasian, while Caucasians are sentenced to life when the victim is African American. (ACLU) With such a disparity between sentencing for both races. Would those that are part of the African American community look less favorable on capital punishment than Caucasians would? It has been well documented in our society that African Americans tend to be targeted by those in law enforcement, and that they face unfairness during judiciary proceedings. This type of treatment should, and has lead African Americans feel

Persuasive Essay On The Death Penalty
1. Persuasive Essay On The Death Penalty
There have been many debates on the death penalty in the U.S. Either it be about the sanctity of a human being, the way the execution is being
performed and delivered, the effectiveness, and/or most importantly the cost of keeping an inmate on death row for a number of years. The Death
penalty is a capital punishment that the government sentences someone, depending on what crime a guilty person committed that caused damage
or harm to society.
The Death penalty is known as capital punishment. It symbolizes crime punishment as the biggest and most important consequence. The Death
penalty can be easily described as punishment of execution, administered to someone convicted of a capital crime. I would like to tackle all the
questions both for and against. There are some who are for it. and Others see the death penalty as ineffective and inhumane. So the first question I
want to discuss is What does the death penalty consist of?
Well first we want to start with how this guilty inmate got here in the first place. So in order to get sentenced to such thing. He/she would have to
committed something atrocious: Murder, rape, maybe torture. He would than go in front or a judge, jurors, and witnesses as well as the public.
Where he/she then (depending on the amount of evidence) could be sentenced within the year or could take many years to do so. He/she
then would spend many years trying to make appeals. In my opinion to avoid the inevitable. Now my opinion on the time spent on death row
I feel is extremely unnecessary, over the years it has gotten worse. For example, "Gary Alvord, a Florida inmate who spent more time on
death row than any other condemned prisoner in the country, died on May 19, 2013, of natural causes. Alvord was 66 years old and had been
sentenced to death for murder almost 40 years before, on April 9, 1974. (Sullivan, D 2013)". This was unnecessary waste of everyone's time to
watch him and a waste of taxpayer money. Now the state did not disclose how much money was used, but we can all expect it to be in the millions.
The reason he was kept alive for so long was because he was considered "mentally uncappable" which is something that is seen a lot in these sorts
of cases. (Now here is where some
