- 1. FUTURE OF AUTO BY HEESU JO
- 2. TECHNOLOGY • Hydrogen Cell – Converts the chemical energy of hydrogen to mechanical energy by burning hydrogen in an internal combustion engine or by reacting hydrogen with oxygen in a fuel cell to run electric motors. • Electric – Uses rechargeable batteries to power electric motors. Additional power may come from solar panels. • Natural gas- uses compressed natural gas (liquid) as an alternative fuel source of internal combustion engine. • Biodiesel – uses vegetable oil or animal fat based diesel as an alternative fuel source, made by mixing animal or plant fat with alcohol.

- 7. WHY THESE CARS? • Hydrogen Cell – Plenty amount of hydrogen, readily available. • Electric – Can come from any other source. Readily available and widely accessible from household. Minor electrical parts may be powered by a solar roof. • Natural gas – There are plenty of natural gas and many natural gas companies out there for the household. Regular petrol cars can be converted into CNG easily. • Biodiesel – It’s biodegradable and more environmentally friendly.
- 8. INFRASTRUCTURE • Hydrogen Cell – Hydrogen charging stations nationwide. • Electric – Electric charging stations nationwide. However, they can charge at a regular household building. • Natural gas – Natural gas charging stations nationwide. • Biodiesel – Consumers can choose to make their own fuel or buy from a nationwide fuel company that provides the biodiesel.

DISADVANTAGES? • Hydrogen Cell – It is very difficult to set up charging stations all across the country, a great amount of subsidies would be needed. • Electric – although it has relatively many more stations than any other alternative fuels, it have limited amount of stations still and has limited range. • Natural gas – It is deal with highly compressed gas, and therefore if not handled well (maintained well) it can cause a deadly explosion. • Biodiesel – It is taking away a resource that can be consumed by humans. It can cause a shortage on household oil in general.

SUBSIDIES • Hydrogen Cell – subsidies on the technology and it’s development, subsidies on charging stations, subsidies on the cars (tax credits). • Electric – subsidies on the cars (tax credits). • Natural gas – subsidies on the conversion of petrol cars or tax credit on the new cars. • Biodiesel – subsidies on oil in general and separate regulation on alcohol.
- 11. WHICH ONE I’D LIKE • Electric Car is the winner for me. • It is already available and there are charging stations already in progress. • The designs are much better (cough cough, Tesla). • It has already proven to be stable and affordable.
