2. Ujjain Darshan
•Ujjain is one of the ancient cities situated
on the eastern bank of Kshipra River.
•Ujjain City is known from its various names
like Ujjayini, Avanti, Avantika, Avantikapuri
also.
•The city is a part of Madhya Pradesh now,
which was prior to be known as the capital
of Avanti.
3. 1. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingams. This is the only south facing
Jyotirlinga. It is said to be ritually established or born on itself and thus
it is called as “Swayambhu”. The ash ritual or Bhasm - Aarti is carried
out here. Mahakaleshwar basically means the god of Time or Death.
4. 2. Chintaman Ganesh
The temple is situated on Shipra of the Fatehabad railway line. It
dated back at the time of Paramaras in 11 – 12 century.
Chintaharan as it is famously known basically means god who
removes all worries and tensions.
5. 3. Harsiddhi Temple
In this temple goddess Annapurna is there between Goddess
Laxmi and Goddess Saraswati. According to Shiva Purana, The
Sri Yantra (symbol of power) is placed here. As per
Skandhpurana it is a place where elbow of Sati fell down when
Shiva was carrying it.
6. 4. Ramghat Ujjain
Ramghat is a bathing ghat. It is a very peaceful place. It has its
connection with ritual bath in Simhastha. Kshipra River flows
from here. Boating can be enjoyed here.
7. 5. Bada Ganesh Mandir
Situated near the reservoir of the Mahakaleshwar temple. It has
huge idol of Lord Gaensha. It is said to be a Hindu deity that
symbolizes wisdom and prosperity.
8. 6. Temple of Mangalnath
According to Matsya purana, it is the birth place of Mars. Shiva is
worshipped in the temple. It is situated on Kshipra River. It is
believed that meridian passes from here.
9. 7. Gopal Mandir Ujjain
Gopal mandir was constructed in 19 century by Bayajibai
Shinde. It displays the true Maratha architecture. It has beautiful
idol of Lord Krishna in his blue forms. It has sanctum of marble
and silver doors.
10. 8. Kaliadeh Palace
Situated on the bank of Kshipra River this palace is a beautiful
ancient site. Building in the palace is of 1458 AD. It has
renovated sun temple in the centre and Surya Kunda and
Brahma Kunda. It is said that Akbar and Jahangir has visited
this place.
11. 9. Observatory (Veda Shala)
Observatory at Ujjain is one of the finest example of architecture of
ancient India. It is build by King Jai Singh II in about 16 – 17 century.
It has various instrument (yantras) with which astronomical studies
can be done. These astronomical devices are still in working condition
and various studies are conducted here every year. Whether
forecasting, Motion of earth and other planets and information
related to sun and moon can be known from here.
