The Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico's SAE Aero Design team is seeking sponsorship to participate in the 2015 SAE Aero Design West competition in California. The team will design and build a remote-controlled aircraft for the micro class competition, which requires carrying the maximum payload weight with the lowest empty aircraft weight. The sponsorship package outlines different sponsorship levels and benefits, with funds going towards materials, manufacturing, registration fees, and travel costs for the 11 student team members. The team's goal is to gain hands-on engineering experience and represent their university at the national competition.

PUPR Aerodesign strives for new challenges
every year. The team has chosen to design
and build a remote controlled aircraft to
represent the Polytechnic University of
Puerto Rico in the forthcoming SAE Aero
Design competition. This will allows us to
apply all the knowledge we have gained in
our engineering courses to gather hands-on
experience in the Mechanical and Aerospace
Engineering field; from the conceptual
design to the real fabrication. Given the
requirements of past competitions, we have
gained experienced in various design and
manufacturing techniques given by our own
errors, up to discussing ideas among
members and other teams in the
competition, and evaluation by SAE judge
boards. Thank you for giving us the
opportunity to show you our biggest goals as
students and future professionals in the
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering area.

Introduction to Aero Design
The Aero Design competition is a gathering
of international university teams which are
challenged to design and construct a
remote controlled aircraft that can lift as
much weight as possible. It is intended to
provide students with an engineering
exercise to expose them to situations faced
by engineers in the work environment. The
competition is divided in three categories;
Micro, Regular and Advanced. Each category
has its own requirements and objectives.
PUPR Aero Design Team
Our team is composed of students with an
interest in participating in the SAE Aero
Design competition. Our objective is to
design and construct an aircraft that meets
the stated requirements in the SAE Aero
Design competition for the Micro class. The
team will use their knowledge and college
experience in engineering to achieve our
goal and represent the Polytechnic
University of Puerto Rico in the Aero Design
competition.
Micro Class
The objective of Micro Class is to design an
electric powered aircraft that can carry the
highest payload weight possible while
simultaneously pursuing the lowest empty
weight possible. The aircraft must be
capable of being assembled from a foam
padded carrying case by two (2) people. The
carrying case dimensions shall not exceed 6
inches in diameter. Micro Class aircraft must
be capable of carrying and fully enclosing a
rectangular block measuring 5 inches by 1.5
inches by 1.5 inches. This year the aircraft
must be hand launched. Also, the container
with the aircraft and payload inside must not
exceed a weight of 10 pounds but the teams’
design is aiming at a weight of 1.00 pounds
or less as a goal for the aircraft’s empty
weight.

Dear Sponsor:
As part of SAE Student Chapter, we would like to participate in the 2015 SAE Aero Design
West Competition. This national Exposure Event is organized by SAE and will be held in Van Nuys,
CA on April of 2015. The competition consists on the design and manufacture of a remote
controlled aircraft, capable of lifting as much weight as possible while having the lowest empty
weight possible. This year we’ll be competing in micro class.
Like any design of this nature, time, money and effort will be required. We understand
that at this moment the business environment in Puerto Rico is not the best one. Nevertheless,
as future engineers and technical leaders of Puerto Rico, we are committed to excel the
representation of the Polytechnic University, Puerto Rico, and our sponsors.
There are several ways you can help us. Methods of sponsorship include:
Direct Sponsorship Package
Referral to other Companies/organizations
Materials, Tools and/or services donations
Technical expertise
Travel tickets
How can you benefit from helping us?
Promoting a stronger engineering education by encouraging current, and future
engineering students to participate in national design and construction competitions
such as this one.
The opportunity to promote and advertise your companies/services by having your logo
placed on the competing aircrafts.
Give another reason to mention your companies/services in the technical dialogs before,
during and after the competitions.
All this donations are for an education of higher learning and therefore tax deductible
We will be contacting you within the next two weeks, to seek an appointment to make a formal
presentation of our project and discuss the interest of your company in sponsoring our team,
PUPR Aero Design.
