2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
QUESTION 1
First, when trying to compare my trailers conventions to another trailer, I need
to set out what the actual conventions are of a trailer.
CONVENTIONS (CHRONOLOGICAL)
1. An Ident. Typically, a production studio/s will put their ident at the start of a trailer.
2. Titles. Whether this is aiding the story, or names of actors/actress’s.
3. Backing music. If a trailer had no backing music, it would most likely sound very
boring. With a backing track, the trailer has more depth.
4. Typically, a trailer will show some of the best scenes in it, trying to entice an
audience to spend money to watch.
5. At the end of the trailer, there is a screen with information such as a website
address, launch date, and obviously the name of the film.
6. At the end there may be a final scene. This is typically horror or comedy trailers.

3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
QUESTION 1
CONVENTIONS APPLIED IN MY TRAILER
At the start of my trailer, I have created my own ident. I have done this to ensure a
professional look.
As I discussed in my blog, the ident that I
based mine on was Project X’s ident. Their
production studio was a team of 3. There was
nothing too ‘flashy’ about the ident. It was
simple. 3 images, each a logo of each
production studio, edited together with a
simple fade between them. I think I have
achieved this look well, with a professional
standard.

4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
QUESTION 1
CONVENTIONS APPLIED IN MY TRAILER
Just after my ident, I have used a series of titles to set the story of my trailer, to aid the
viewer in understanding the trailer. This is typically used in trailers, wether it be
helping with the story, or with the actors names.
As you can see to the right, there is short sentences
on screen setting the story just before the trailer
moves further in to the action. I found, that without
this, It would have been hard getting the message
across, and would have ended up being a very long
trailer.
I think this adds to my trailers professionalism.

5. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
QUESTION 1
CONVENTIONS APPLIED IN MY TRAILER
At the end of my trailer, I have used the colour that I have
used on my poster and magazine cover to ensure
continuity. It is also the same font.
At the end of my trailer, I have done what a lot of other
trailers do as well. The name, release date, and also the
website/social media address. This is key information for a
viewer, as it is most likely the first information apart from
the content they are seeing about the trailer.
I have put these titles at the end of the trailer, as this is the
standard placement of these pieces of information.

QUESTION 1
CONVENTIONS APPLIED IN MY TRAILER
As mentioned before, music can really make a
trailer. More and more, trailers are using
TOP40 music to entice people in to viewing a
trailer, then then eventually a film.
I have decided to use ‘Imagine Dragons’
Radioactive. This song, I think, fits in well with
my trailer, so I have used it. I have cut it up to
fit in with the trailer, my editing the song in
Garageband.

7. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
QUESTION 1
CONVENTIONS CHALLENGED IN MY TRAILER
Going back to these titles, while the titles
themselves are a convention, the information
and the placement is challenging conventions.
I have used these titles at the beginning to
‘paint the picture’, but these titles are going
ahead of themselves. These are future events
then the trailer shows the events leading up to
this main event. In some ways, this could be
classed as a postmodern element. ‘bending
time and space’.

8. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
QUESTION 1
CONVENTIONS DEVELOPED IN MY TRAILER
Trailers for a long time have displayed a
website address. This is still very common, but
as time moves on, and users are more and
more relying on social media such as Twitter.
More and more at the end of a TV show or the
beginning there is a hashtag (#). On twitter,
this aids interaction and it you search that
hashtag, you can see what everyone is talking
about that particular subject.
