1. Speech Oppression
Everyone isdifferent.Everyone hasideas,opinions,andbeliefsthatdonotnecessarilyconformwithothers.Shoulda
person'sbeliefs really be dismissedorprohibitedjustbecause itprovokessomeoneelse? Some donotbelieve so.
Freedomof speechprotectseach andeveryperson fromthe influence of special interests. The people wouldbe a
meaninglessphrase if theirvoiceswere tobe limited orcontrolledbyothers. Oppressionshouldnotbe a resultof
someone speakingtheirmindandvoicingtheiropinion.
SpeechOppressioninthe office exists. There have beenmultiple reportsof employeesgettingfiredbecausethey
voicedtheiropinion abouttheirworkplace onsocial media.Beingpunishedforspeakingyourmindshouldnotbe a
crime ina countrybasedon freedomof speech.Workersare expectedtoactprofessionallywhentheyare inthe office.
Many placesevenhave acertainworkplace etiquette.However,whenthatisonpersonal time,theirwordsshouldnot
be usedagainstthemfor punishment. If individuals donothave the freedomtoexpressourpersonal feelings, thenwhat
makesour workingconditionsthatmuchdifferentthanaslave whomustadhere tohisor hermaster’sfeelings.
Populace shouldnotbe subjectedtosegregationandinjustice because they opposethe decisionof anauthority.
Whenyouhave a chance to ask questionsorshare experiences, there will be farmore learningopportunitiesin
society.Thisrightprovidesanopportunityforall individualstodiscovernew things,discusssuggestionsoropenlyshare
informationwithoutstressingaboutthe future policyramifications.Freedomadvancesknowledge forasociety, and
challengeshate.Whenpeoplehave authority,theydowhatevertheycantokeepitfor as longas possible.Thiscould
involve achange inthe constitutionof the countryor the suppressionof aminoritygroupthatthreatensthe "menin
control".Freedomof speechlimitsthisinfluence,since itallowspeopletoexpresscriticismof those inpower."Thereis
no suchthingas free thenkindof not free.Youare eitherfree orenslaved, noinbetween.Once theyhave control over
howor what we say theyobviouslyhave completecontrol overourfreedom, ourabilitytospeakwhatwe think."If
speechislimited,thatislike the peopleincharge sayingthatwe can't thinkforourselves,andformopinions.
The principle behindfreedomof speechandexpressionisthatyoushouldbe able toexpresseverythingthatdoes
not have legal implicationsforyou.Evenif yourperceptionisdistasteful,rude,orcontroversial,thisrightgivesyouthe
opportunitytoexpressit. There are fourwaysof speechinthe UnitedStatesthat are not protectedbythe First
Amendment. Youcannotmake a legitimate threattoanagainstotherindividuals, youcannotdefame others, youcannot
plagiarize anycopyrightedmaterial, andyoucannotshare obscene material. Freedomof speechcanalsospreadfalse
information;the internetmakesitwayeasierforpeopletospreadfalse informationandaccusations.Take the example
of anti -vaccinators,theyclaimthatvaccines can cause autisminchildren, yetthere isnoresearchtoprove it.
All inall, wordsare justwordsuntil theyare usedina context. However, evenmisinterpreted wordsare justwords
and cannotbe subjectedtoaban any time someone isoffended.Settingconstraintsonfreedomof speechjustcreatesa
slope where more andmore opinionsandbeliefsare censored.
