Vitamins are grouped into

1. Fat-soluble vitamins

10. VITAMIN A
SOURCE:
• Animal sources: liver, egg yolk, butter, cheese, whole milk and
fish.
• Plant sources: Green leafy vegetables e.g. Spinach, cabbage.
Colored vegetables. e.g. carrot, pumkin etc.
DEFICIENCY:
• Night blindness
• No Protection against cold and influenza

Source:
•Natural source: Ultraviolet ray of sunlight
•Animal sources: liver, egg yolk, butter, fortified milk.
Deficiency:
• Rickets
• Not Bulding up teeth
• Not Building up bones
• Not absorb calcium

12. Vitamin E (Anti-sterility factor)
Source:
Animal sources: Meat, egg, chicken, milk and fish.
Plant sources: Cotton seed oil, sun flower oil, peanut oil
etc.
Deficiency:
• No promotes ferlity

13. Vitamin K (Anti-haemorrhagic
factor)
Source:
Animal sources: Liver, egg
yolk, cheese
Plant sources: Green leafy
vegetables e.g. Cabbage,
cauliflower,spinach.
Deficiency:
• NO Blood clotting
• Blood would not stick
together

14. Vitamin B Complex
Source:
• Plant source: peas, bean, pulses, nuts ,etc
• Animal sources: liver, kidney, egg, milk, pork etc
Deficiency:
• Beriberi
• Peralysis
• Loss sensitivity of skins
• No Red blood cells and maintain brain function.

15. Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid)
Source:
• Plant sources:
• orange, lemon, pineapple, papaya etc.
• Fresh leafy vegetables. e. g. cabbage, cauliflower, green pepper,
andspinach.
• Animal sources: Meat and milk contain small amount of vitamin
C.
Deficiency:
• Scurvy is major consequence of vitamin C deficiency
• Tooth decay
• No Joint in our bones
