5. Film World and Style
oThe film takes place mostly in Lottie's bedroom
and the college she attends
oShe spends time studying on the green
oThe film itself is a mix between a coming of age
story and a fantasy, with a soft, cosy
atmosphere until the climax in the final scene
oLottie's room uses soft, yellow light and the
college has a autumnal feel
oThe editing will include cuts from shots which
show Lottie surrounded by her ‘fictional friends’
to her alone to show reality from fiction
6. ‘Fangirls’
oThe word 'fangirl’ was first recorded in 1934, in a novel by A. P. Herbert called ‘Holy Deadlock’.
oDictionary.com defines a fangirl as an obsessive female fan, especially of comic books, science
fiction, video games, music, or electronic devices.
oIt’s a popular label for people, mostly but not exclusively female, who enjoy and talk about
things they are fans about online
oWhile fangirls and their ‘fandoms’ are often positive environments, there are multiple examples
of over obsessive fans and toxic communities
oLottie is a fangirl, who enjoys books, tv shows and films and uses these characters to help her
through ordinary life. While she feels alone at school, she doesn’t feel alone when she consumes
the media she’s a fan of.
7. Soundscape
oThe opening inside Lottie's room will include music that Lottie is playing off her record player,
this will help the emphasis the coming of age genre of the film
oThis will stop when she turns it off onscreen
oSound effects such as school bells will be used to show passage of time and imply that Lottie
has been to lessons despite her not being seen in a classroom
oThe ending scene may include music to raise tension, but this would be abruptly stopped once
Lottie’s ‘friends’ have been banished to show her loss
8. Target Audience
oThe primary target audience is teenage girls as the film is a based on a internet sub-culture
mostly made of teenage girls
oThis means the show has a niche audience
oHowever, the film has a secondary audience of anyone who could relate to Lottie’s
story/struggle as the films main theme is internal conflict and loneliness
oI hope the film has elements most teenagers can relate to
