Hydrogen?
• Hydrogen is the chemical element with the symbol H and atomic
number 1. With a standard atomic weight of 1.008, hydrogen is
the lightest element in the periodic table. Hydrogen is the most
abundant chemical substance in the universe, constituting
roughly 75% of all mass.

History of
Hydrogen • In 1766, Henry Cavendish was the first to recognize hydrogen
gas as a discrete substance.
• In 1783, Antoine Lavoisier gave the element the name

Hydrogen as a Fuel
• Hydrogen has been used as a fuel for decades…..
• NASA has relied upon hydrogen gas as rocket fuel to deliver crew and cargo to space
since the early 1958!
• Hydrogen is a clean fuel that, when consumed in a fuel cell, produces only water
(H2O).
• Hydrogen can be produced from a variety of domestic resources, such as natural
gas, nuclear power, biomass, and renewable power like solar and wind. These
qualities make it an attractive fuel option for transportation and electricity
generation applications.

Hydrogen in Automobiles
•As the world’s population is rising rapidly, there is a
huge demand for a clean, zero emission, easy to
store automobile fuel to reduce global pollution
rates.
•Hydrogen can be used as an automobile fuel as it
meet all the criteria mentioned above.

Battery and hydrogen-powered vehicles have the same
goal: reduce Environmental Pollution.
But, HCEVs have clear advantages in many applications.
