2. Introduction:
 Enzymes used in a variety of industries such as
 Pharmaceuticals,
 Food
 Leather,
 Textile,
 Baking,
 Detergent industries

3. Biological Detergents :

 Cellulases

4.  Principally protease digests on organic stains such as blood, egg
and human sweat.
 Lipases are effective on stains resulting from fatty products.
 Amylases are effective on removing starchy food deposits.
 Cellulase to brighten colours and soften fabrics.

6.  All proteases employed for detergents are obtained from Bacillus
usually either neutral or alkaline protease.
 The carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes are alpha-amylases from
either Bacilles licheniformis.

9.  Enzymes like cellulase and protease brightens the colours and
enhances the removal of particulate material that adhere to the
surface of garments.
 Denim is heavy grade cotton.
 Cellulase enzyme is used in denim washing
 Cellulase works by loosening the indigo dye on the denim in a
process know as “Bio-Stonewashing”.

12. Tanning:
 Tanning is a process conversion of skin into leather..
 Tanning process which permanently alters the protein structure of
skin, making it more durable and less susceptible to
decomposition..
 Protease enzymes are used to remove unwanted proteins form the
leather.
 Tanning process makes the leather clean, smooth and fine.

13. Soaking:
 Rehydration of skin is known as Soaking.
 It can be done by using lipase and protease enzymes.
 These enzymes digest proteins and lipids in skin and enhance water
uptake.

14. Un-hairing
 Keratinases, which hydrolyze the keratin of hair and epidermis and
break down the disulfide bonds of this molecule.
Degreasing:
 Lipases, which hydrolyze fats, oils and greases present on the
skins or leathers.
