Introduction On behalf of Pricewaterhouse Coopers of Utrecht - acting as advisor of the state-
owned dredging company Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) , Vuyk Engineering
Rotterdam B.V. made a technical investigation as preparation of DCI's Corporate
Plan for the period 2005 - 2010.
During the investigation the following matters are studied
• State of the fleet; average life of dredgers, types & capacities; need for
upgrading, cost of upgrading, remaining lifecycle for dredgers.
• Technology development in related areas, in terms of new dredgers,
maintenance and dredging operations, and the technical benchmarking
parameters identified under the benchmarking module. This will be an overall
broad level corporate plan.
• Costs of DCI [after incorporating the benchmarking study and suggested
improvements] for acquisition of new dredgers, etc.
The Dredging Corporation of India Limited owns and operates ten trailing suction
hopper dredgers, ranging in capacity between 3 450 m³ and 7 400 m³.
All of the vessels were built by yards of the IHC Holland Group.
For above investigation VER travelled to India. During the visit four DCI trailing
suction hopper dredgers were visited , while dredging in the vicinity of Port of
Haldia.
