3. Practical/Technical
Problem Effect On Production Solution
Camera batteries run out whilst
filming.
This would cut off the scene and would
put a stop to production until its
charged again.
Make sure to turn up to filming with
multiple fully charged batteries.
Microphone doesn’t record audio It would make the footage unusable and
would have to be re-recorded.
Do audio checks before shooting to
make sure that it is working correctly.
SD card gets full before filming This would mean that filming would
have to stop until the card is ready.
Make sure to upload all the footage to
the computer regularly and clear space
on the card.
Take doesn’t look good If I don’t re-film then I will have a shot
that I’m not happy with.
Make sure that I focus during
production to ensure that I’m happy
with every shot. I can also check shots
whilst I’m there to make sure its ok
before moving on.
Audio doesn’t sound clear You might not be able to hear dialogue
or there might be background sound
that is disruptive ruining the final
product.
Make sure to pay attention to
background sounds that the mic might
pick up. If there is anything disruptive
then wait to film the scene.
Green morph suit doesn’t fit the actor I wouldn’t be able to film the scenes
with the monster as the suit will be
necessary for this scene.
I need to make sure that I buy it early
so that I can have the actor try it on
beforehand to make sure it fits. If not,
then I will have time to return it and
buy one in a bigger size.
4. Practical/Technical
Problem Effect On Production Solution
Power cutting out during editing I would not be able to continue editing
and could loose unsaved work.
Make sure to save work to onedrive so
that to auto saves and save regular
backup copies to the computer so that it
is safe.
Wi-fi going down whilst editing Would mean that work would stop
autosaving to onedrive so could loose
progress. Would also effect the ability to
import and export work.
Make sure to save copies to the
computer and that I am connected to
the wi-fi when I begin editing.
Batteries for light running out. The scenes will be too dark for the
camera so I wouldn’t be able to film.
Make sure to bring spare batteries.
Green morph suit doesn’t arrive on time I wouldn’t be able to film the scenes
with the monster
Make sure to order it early on giving it
plenty of time to arrive.
Rain damaging the camera The camera would break meaning that
production couldn’t continue
Make sure to check the weather before
filming and to wait until rain stops.
5. Theoretical/Creative
Problem Effect On Production Solution
Actors not showing up for filming. I would not be able to shoot the scenes
without the actors.
I need to make sure that I plan the
shooting days with plenty of time in
advance and organise my actors well so
they can be ready for the filming days.
Time management If I don’t have a strict schedule then I
could risk not getting the project
completed in time. It could also mean
that some areas get rushed which will
result in a low quality product.
I need to make sure that I make a
detailed schedule for my entire
production, factoring enough time for
filming and post production. I need to
make sure that I stick to this schedule
and that all actors are ready for filming
so there are no delays in production.
Actors not being prepared for a scene This could cause delays during filming
because I will have to spend time
talking through what to do and scenes
will take longer. I would also mean that
we would do more takes which would
drain the battery and fill more space on
the SD card.
Make sure that the actors see the script
with enough time in advance to prepare
for the scene. This means completing
the script early. I can also have
rehearsals with the actors so they know
exactly what to do on filming days.
Not completing planning on time There wont be enough preparation for
production meaning that scenes will be
bad quality.
Make sure to stick to a schedule for
planning and complete every section in
detail. If I get behind then I can make
sure to use the weekends.
6. Theoretical/Creative
Problem Effect On Production Solution
Actors being late for filming This would waste filming time. It will
also be crucial for the days when I need
to film in the evening before it gets too
dark. If they are last then filming might
have to be cancelled.
Ask actors to get to filming a little
earlier than when totally necessary so
that there is still plenty of time in case
there are delays to train and busses.
Also make sure to remind the actors
what times they need to day before.
Not learning how to do special effects on
time
The special effects will look bad and
ruin the film
Make sure to spend plenty of time in
advance practising and experimenting
how to do the effects. This needs to be
planned in the schedule.
8. Video Experiment 1
For this experiment I wanted to test out how to
use the green screen suit. I needed to do this to
figure out the best way to make the effects
work.
I wanted to create the effect that the mug was
flying on its own so I had somebody pick it up
in the suit. First you need to record a blank
background so that when you edit out the
green, the background matches up. This part
worked but after editing it and adding the ultra
key effect, you could still see the outline of the
person. I think that the reason it is obvious is
because the lighting on the suit isn’t consistent.
This means that there are slight shadows on
the suit and areas that are slightly different
colours. This means that the keying colour wont
work for the whole suit. To solve this issue I
need to make sure that it is lit properly so I
decided to do another take with natural
lighting and torches to see if there is a
9. Video Experiment 1
For this second attempt I filmed two videos,
One outside in natural lighting and another
inside but lit up with more lights. The video
filmed outside did look better but there were
still parts that looked wrong. I think that the
video filmed outside looks a lot better and with
a couple of changes, it will work for the final
problem.
To start with, I will need to change the story to
accommodate that fact that getting the suit
fully invisible probably wont work. I will make
sure to show the monster is invisible in
different ways by only using the green suit in
small ways for example just having an arm in
the scene. This will be a lot easier as I will only
have to focus on making sure that the one arm
is well lit in the scene. I will also use sound
effects to tell the audience that something is
there like rustling leaves and footsteps. This
paired with tracking camera movements will
show the monster is there without having to
use effects.
10. Video Experiment 2
For this experiment I want to look at the best
way to film in a dark setting. The main part of
the film will be set in a wooded area at night
meaning I need to think about the lighting. One
way is to edit footage from day to night so that
everything is well lit and everything can be
seen. I want to compare this to filming at night.
In order to edit the footage to look like night I
needed to desaturate the video and raise the
blue tones to make it look like it’s night.
The second image shows the footage I captured
filming in the woods at night. The footage is
very low quality and grainy as well as being too
dark to see anything. This footage is captured
with only the flash on so it would be possible to
use more lighting, however using day to night
still looks effective and will be much easier. It
will also allow for me to capture high quality
footage.

11. Video Experiment 2
The main problem with filming day to night is that you cant have any of the sky in the shot.
This is because It gives away that it is not filmed at night. There is no way to make the sky look
black. After going to the filming location I realised that the wooded area is thinner that I
thought and there is a lot of sky that shows through the sky. This means I will have to change
the film and have it set in the day. I can make sure to use colour grading in the final production
to make the shots look a bit darker and gloomier whilst being set during the day. I think that
the horror aspects of the film will still come across so long as I focus on other areas like sound
and camera movement.
