6. Types of examinations
Most examinations can be categorized into main
categories. They are as follows:
a) Objective Examination: there are a few types of
objective examinations. Generally, the answers
required in objective examinations are short and
limited. In addition, the amount of writing is minimal.
The most common questions types in objective
examinations are as follows:
1. Multiple-choice questions: you are given a few
choices to complete a statement or to answer a
question.

2. Matching exercises: It usually involves two columns. Your
are required to match the items in the 1st column with the
right answer s in the 2nd columns.
3. Cloze Passages: there are several numbered blanks within a

correct answer usually one word only. Some times,
multiple-choice answers are provided at the end of the
passage.
4. True/False questions: for this question type, you have to
carefully evaluate whether each statement provided is true
or false.

There are 10 general hints on how to deal with objective
examinations:
1. Read the instructions carefully and understand what you
are required to do
2. Underline the important keywords in the question so
that you don’t misread them
3. Answer the easy questions first
4. Carefully read all the options first even if you think the
first option is correct
5. Evaluate all options carefully. Cross out the wrong or
irrelevant answer
6. Ensure that you have transferred your answers
accurately from the question paper to the answer sheets
7. When in doubt, follow your first answer.
