¡ Special Consultative status as an NGO at the UN (ECOSOC)

attended by President David Coleman and President-elect 
Dave Lovell, plus Carmelle Ternborgh, Chair of the Societal 
Benefits Committee in New York, on 4-5 August 2014

attending the next full UN-GGIM meeting in Beijing in October,

¡ ad Disaster Recovery 
¡ one of our newest members is the Taiwan Association of 
Disaster Prevention Industry (TADPI) 
¡ GSDI is negotiating a MoU with Univ. of Melbourne's new 
Centre for Disaster Management that is being set up by 
past GSDI President Prof. Abbas Rajabifard (member of the 
GSDI Executive Committee). 
He is conducting this week an international symposium on 
disaster management that with over 100 delegates from 
different countries and organisations (including Greg Scott from 
UNGGIM).

MASAT-2 
Mission objectives: 1-3U CubeSat aimed for 
technology experiments 
Special features include: 3-axis stabilizator 
High resolution camera optimized for CubeSat

Action plan: completion of planning, implementation, 
test, start and operation (altogether in 2-3 years) 
Pre-testing of the MaSat 3, the prototype for HEOS

This end-user focused event will offer an opportunity to discuss how 
innovative geoinformation services based on 
satellite imagery and/or satellite navigation can help regional 
administrators improve public services and make better 
informed decisions about stimulating economic development and

Conclusions 
¡ Interoperable spatial data infrastructures and related services 
are enabling tools for EO applications 
¡ EO industry is transforming into a geoinformation industry 
¡ GSDI and IGS are open for the EO players to join the geospatial 
information community. 
¡ GSDI Regional and Country level members are playing active 
role not only supporting EO applications by their members for 
the societal benefit areas but also providing awareness raising 
by arranging international networking, regional projects, 
conference sessions, thematic workshops and promoting 
competition challenges from local to regional in EO in close 
cooperation with space agencies such as NASA or ESA.

GSDI Updates ¡ GSDI received Special Consultative status at UN ¡ Special Consultative status as an NGO at the UN (ECOSOC) was activated on 1 May http://www.gsdi.org/node/1014 ¡ UN Global Geospatial Information Management meeting attended by President David Coleman and President-elect Dave Lovell, plus Carmelle Ternborgh, Chair of the Societal Benefits Committee in New York, on 4-5 August 2014 ¡ Former President Abbas Rajabifard and David Coleman will be attending the next full UN-GGIM meeting in Beijing in October, 2014 GSDI Liaison’s report for CEOS WGISS 38 Meeting hosted by JSC "Russian Space Systems" and ROSCOSMOS, Moscow, Russia, 29 Sept – 3 Oct, 2014
  • 4. GSDI Updates (2) ¡ High-level cooperation with learned societies of the geospatial world ¡ MoU-based cooperation with ICA, ISPRS. Ongoing preparation with OGC. Planned: ISDE ¡ GSDI presence at the 5th Digital Earth Summit hosted by Keio University in Nagoya, 8-11 November 2014 (In conjuction with the UNESCO Conference on Education for the Sustainable Development) ¡ GSDI - cooperating organization registered by GEO. Attending the XI GEO Plenary in Libreville, Gabon Nov, 2014 (t.b.d.) The last GSDI World Conference was in Addis Ababa and the President of IGS is from EIS – Africa. ¡ Liaison link with CEOS WGISS attending the WGISS-38. GSDI Updates (3) ¡ ad Disaster Recovery ¡ one of our newest members is the Taiwan Association of Disaster Prevention Industry (TADPI) ¡ GSDI is negotiating a MoU with Univ. of Melbourne's new Centre for Disaster Management that is being set up by past GSDI President Prof. Abbas Rajabifard (member of the GSDI Executive Committee). He is conducting this week an international symposium on disaster management that with over 100 delegates from different countries and organisations (including Greg Scott from UNGGIM). Conclusions ¡ Interoperable spatial data infrastructures and related services are enabling tools for EO applications ¡ EO industry is transforming into a geoinformation industry ¡ GSDI and IGS are open for the EO players to join the geospatial information community. ¡ GSDI Regional and Country level members are playing active role not only supporting EO applications by their members for the societal benefit areas but also providing awareness raising by arranging international networking, regional projects, conference sessions, thematic workshops and promoting competition challenges from local to regional in EO in close cooperation with space agencies such as NASA or ESA.
