HYDRO POWER GENERATING SPEED
BREAKER (HPGSB) is a device used to meet
the increasing demand of electricity today.
HPGSB converts the potential energy of
vehicle into electrical energy.
• Potential energy of vehicle means weight of the vehicle.
•Reciprocating motion of piston means upward and downward
motion of speed breaker.
•Potential energy of water means water stored at certain height.
•Kinetic energy of water means water jets at the outlet of the
nozzle.
•Runner power means rotational motion of runner.
•Shaft power means rotational motion of shaft.
When a vehicle passing over the HPGSB the piston which is rectangular
in shape moves downward and spring is compressed inside water filled
rectangular box. Due to the downward movement of piston water flows
upward in outlet pipe and stores in the upper reservoir.
When vehicle passed over the HPGSB the piston moves in
upward direction and comes to initial position due to energy
stored in helical spring during downward movement of
piston. The process is repeated whenever a vehicle passes
over the HPGSB.
•Upper reservoir is connected to turbine through penstock.
•When water is filled in the upper reservoir.
• The valve is opened and water from the upper reservoir flow
through the penstock at the outlet of which a nozzle is fitted.
•The nozzle increases the kinetic energy of water flowing through
the penstock.
• At the outlet of the nozzle, the water comes out in the form of a jet
and strikes the vane of the runner.
•This converts kinetic energy of water into runner power.
•The shaft which connects the turbine and generator, transfer the
rotational motion of runner to generator.
• DC generated by generator is converted into AC with the help of
alternator and given to utilized source.
