Objective(Objetivo):
Students will identify the meaning of the wordsperception and assumption through analyzing their own
personalities based on their surrounding cultureand family’sroots.
Activator (Hazlo ahora):
What are the elements of culture?
Mini-Lesson (Minilección):
The teacher will post the activator question “What are the elements of culture?” and will seek answers from
students by modeling various examples of elements of culture fromvarious world countries.
Teacher will then conductthe activity “The Tip of the Iceberg.” Teacher will draw an iceberg on chart paper. The
drawing will show a small part of the iceberg showing abovethe water line and a bigger partunder the water
line. The picture below demonstrates how the activity will be conducted.

Through analyzing the activity, students will arriveto important concepts of how they are perceived and of what
makes them who they are hence engaging in discussions abouttheir cultural diversity.
2. Learning Activity (Actividad para aprender):
Students create their own icebergs. Through the activity, students will analyze peoples’ perception/assumptions
of them as well as analyzing whatmakes them who they are. This activity is to be done individually, and its
purposeand intention is to have students think about their cultures.
Wrap-Up (Recapitulación):
Students will havethe option of sharing their graphic organizers with the class, butteacher will hold short
individual conversations with each student regardless of their choice.
Homework:
Students will performthe “Tip of the Iceberg activity on a family member hence opening a door to shareand
learn with their families about culture.
Differentiation:
Graphic organizers, smartboard visuals and pair-share.
