People complain everyday about the problems in this world. One of my complaints is about people who complain! I have a high respect for those
who take actions to try to solve these problems. One major group which has to solve problems this is internationally recognized is Rotary International.
Another group with similar goals is The Ruritan Foundation. Both of these groups have a website used by people all over the world to communicate
information about their organization and how people can get involved. Ruritan focuses on the loval community and serving on a much smaller scale
than Rotary. For Rotary, an overall emphasis is made on international service needs and diversity among people, as well as...show more content...
Knowing this, it essentially chose one major issue that all the clubs can work on together and has a plan to follow through until its goal is met by
putting most of its energy into it. This one extensive goal is to "globally eradicate the disease, polio"
(About Rotary), appropriately titled PolioPlus.
Each Rotary Club handles programs individually, but PolioPlus is a joint effort. With inquiry about the PolioPlus program on the webstie, I learned that
though Rotary initiated this goal, other health organizations have actively supported it in collaboration, such as The United Nations Children's Fund
and the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
They began this effort in the 1980s raising over US$240 million. By 2005, Rotary hopes to have made this world polio–free (PolioPlus). A page on the
website was created to recognize the reliable persons who have encouraged this program such as Bill Clinton, former US president, Bill Gates, from
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Quotables), and the list goes on. More goals regarding PolioPlus can be found under the subheading "About
PolioPlus."
This internationally recognized organization began with only four people in Chicago, Illinois, (Rotary in Depth). In the article, Rotary in Depth, it is
explained that they began rotating between members' offices, holding meetings. The

I have always been involved in groups that perform community service projects. In fact, I was recently elected to as VP of Public Relations of the
Student MOVE group. We are a group of 12 individuals that are the advisory committee for all of the community service organizations on campus, but
we organize many alternative activities and events. I even did a service learning project for my Spanish class last semester with Cynthia Wells. I
attended the Spanish mass every Sunday, and I was a greeter. I learned their culture and rituals while still attending the usual Catholic Mass.
Upon learning that I had to do a service learning project for Ethics class, I immediately began brainstorming ideas. I decided I...show more content...
Our group was able to come up with many great ideas on how to help out the organizations. The Denver group also met with one of the creators of
AWOL Libby Rau. Libby was an amazing BV student who graduated last spring. She came up with the idea of the AWOL program on the ride home
from working in Sioux Falls on a weekend retreat with Maggie Baker. Libby is currently working for Ameri–Corp at a non–profit organization called
Brent's Place. This was the place for children with cancer to stay while going through their treatments. Libby was a great role model for our group
and really inspired a few individuals such as Sara Upah. I can recall Sara saying that she really wants to work for a non–profit organization.
Girls Inc. is located in downtown Denver. It is a place where girls can go after school to spend time with dedicated workers, which will help the girls
with homework and keep them busy after school. It is designed for girls of low–income families which cannot afford daycare service or do not want
their children being home alone after school. Girls Inc. got a 2 million dollar donation to build a facility next to the existing one. We helped pack up
hundreds of boxes of material to be moved. We cleaned out old libraries, played with the children, and even got a tour of the new facility. Urban farms

Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) is a non–profit organization that build, rent and sell houses for lower prices, to families in need,
their goal is to help people to achieve their dream of having a house or rent a house with affordable payments. CHWC not only provide houses but
they also provide financial counseling and homebuyer assistance, that help individuals to get better understanding of the process that need to do
in order to buy a house. The time I was there I felt so welcome by the staff and also it helped me to improve my communication skills since I was at
the front desk receiving calls, interacting with the clients, making appointments to meet with the counselors and receiving the donations from
different associations. I had a lot of good experiences at CHWC, one of the best experiences I had at CHWC was when a family finally get their
house,I was the one who inform them that we had some goods news for them, as soon the family arrived the counselor speak to them and it was
great seeing the face of those people, they were so happy about it. Another good experience was when a man came into the office with flowers and a
cake for one of the counselors, he was so thankful because he was a first time homebuyer, and the counselor form CHWC helped him and oriented
him, it was a great experience, I feel like CHWC gives a lot to the community. It was the

Persuasive Essay About Community Service
As an 18–year–old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I
was a victim of "tyranny" in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I
participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such
as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop theirmoral
value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without
the school supervision. Volunteerismenables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to
source 2, "community service teaches us through experience – about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part
of a community, in essence, about human being". While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct
and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community
because they are a part of it. Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that makes the society a

Essay On Importance Of Community Service
Importance of Community Service
Community service is an important component of a business's social responsibility. Everyone belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to
help those who cannot take care of themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep the community
safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order to gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving
back to the communities they are located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore, community service
can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important business skills through community service, such as teamwork,
leadership, communication, and problem solving. Community service can also be an excellent way for individuals to network with others and discover
new business opportunities.

Reflective Essay On Community Service
Community service is very important. Not only is it a that is present to everyone, it is also present personally to you. I had not noticed this until an
event so horrendous had to occur. When I was only in fourth grade, Hurricane Sandy swept across the East coast and truly opened my eyes. My
whole house and belongings were destroyed, and I had to look at others for help. In this time of need, it truly shocked me by how much people were
willing to help you and work with you to get you through these frightening times. Maria Gatta, on the same topic, always valued the topic of
community service. She dedicated herself to always try and help others. And, I as came to realize, the help of others truly does make huge differences

Though, I also know what the feeling is to have others there for you, giving the support and objects you need to start back up. I know what the feeling
is to have those people––some you don't even know––there for you to help you through the process. Community service is such a precious thing that
helps so much. Some people––some like me as I was younger––don't realize how important it truly is and how much it can truly help others. Along
with my personal story, Maria Gatta was one of those people who were the complete opposite of me before the hurricane. She valued community
service and helping others. Mrs. Gatta was one of the people that realized even the littlest things could help in their own way. I mean, I never despised
the topic of helping others through community service, it's just that I didn't yet see the importance. She spent her whole life dedicated to try and please
others through all her help including the work of community service; to be able to help other people was one thing she truly valued. Maria Gatta was
constantly thinking about how she could always help others––never herself. She had understood the true importance of community service and how
much it can really make a huge impact on others. The time when people need all this help the most is when they are struggling, and Mrs. Gatta really
knew the significance of giving those people the support they needed in those times. She had such a big heart to actually

Persuasive Essay About Community Service
Community service is something that as a Junior we have to do till senior year. Community service is when you volunteer to help a non profit
organization or a non profit event. This is an unpaid position. There are many benefits to having teenagers do community service. One benefit is
that teenagers are learning to be more responsible. If they fully commit to the position that they have agreed to do that shows the responsibility of
the individual. They could be doing sports or watching tv but they choose to help a specific organization which proves their responsibility.
Something I have always loved doing was working with animals. Cats, dogs, snakes, fish, rabbits, it doesn't matter I love them all. To be able to
work in an environment with animals you have to learn to love them all. I personally never enjoyed small dogs but they eventually grew on me
because I knew they needed just as much love and attention as the big dogs do. For my community service I chose to volunteer at the MSPCA at
Nevins Farm. I was definitely very excited to be able to work with the animals. I specifically work with the dogs. I have learned so much about
them. The MSPCA is a very important organization and they do a lot of great thing. But they have also done some bad. They help the community by
taking in animals that someone decided they didn't want, couldn't have, or found as a stray. There are many reasons people give up there animals.
These animals are pretty well taken care of. We feed them, almost all dogs get a walk 2–4 times per day. To these animals this is a big deal. Many of
these animals have never seen what it means to be loved. Its very sad but true. The first time I went to the MSPCA I was very annoyed. I had to sit
thru a 4 hour orientation and then I had to follow someone around for another 3 hours TWO weeks later before I could do anything. At this point I
was extremely annoyed because I have walked dogs from 5 Pound puppies to 180 pound Cane corso's. I noticed that a lot of the volunteers had no idea
how to actually care for a dog when I first showed up. There was so much stupid going on and so disorganized. Because I was new we can only walk
specific dogs. There are levels 1–4. Level 1 is dogs that don't pull,

Community service in our society is starting to get a diminished appeal because it doesn't sound fun. Teenagers don't understand what they are doing
for other people and our focused on the entertaining aspect of it. When it shouldn't be about that. It should be about helping people, but we are too
concerned with ourselves. Required community service would some people good because it would teach them how to do it, but in a way it might ruin
the purpose of it. This is because community service and service in general should be about the greater good, not because you are forced to do it to
graduate. The point is that society has changed loads since the Counterculture Movement, in the sixties, but attitudes for this are still not the greatest.

When he or she is tutoring a kid they can see the difference and growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Usually when he or she
is tutoring a kid this happens because kids can retain information in incredible amounts. When he or she tutors a child they must take certain
procedures because it matters what age they are to what procedure he or she might do. Somebody with a learning disability might have a different
method of learning something then the person that is dyslexic. He or she may never know, but he or she needs to figure out what that stimulus is that
helps them learn the best and apply it to how he or she might teach them. This is the thing that gives me the satisfaction is working with a student that
has a learning disability. When he or she is working with them it is hard sometimes to come up with ways in which they will retain the information
that he or she is throwing at them. Sometimes it can take a long time until they finally get it, but when they do is when the feeling of accomplishment
comes in and he or she starts to appreciate the amount of work that they put in to help the child out. This is the part I like the best because it can be
frustrating when the person isn't getting what he or she is trying to teach them, but once they get it it is the best feeling in the

The Importance Of Community Service
Community service is an activity you do out of the kindness of your heart for the good of your community. In my opinion community service is a
necessary thing for everyone to do because every community always needs work and without people willing to help the communities would be
lacking. The community service activity I chose to do for this class is The Medical Mission At Home, hosted by St. Vincent. I decided to choose this
community service activity because my mom is a pharmacist at St. Vincent so I have always been super involved with the hospital's community.
St. Vincent holds this event once a year and it is to help the people without insurance or money to get the medical care they need. Some of the
things they offer are doctors for people to see, pharmacists in case a doctor prescribes the patient some medicine, a foot washing station, a food
pantry, free coats for the winter, a dentistry station, and free flu shots. I worked at the pharmacy section, some of the jobs I was assigned was to
count the prescriptions, give the patient the pamphlet with drug information, and to tell people about the options they have to get their prescriptions
filled once they ran out. This opportunity I had to participate with The Medical Mission at Home was pretty special because I got to see the
difference I made in people's life. Many of the people who came to this event had never gotten any medical care in their lives and to see them finally
getting some help was really great. It was

Why I Need Community Service
Imagine struggling to afford the 'mandatory' three meals you're supposed to consume a day. It would be hard and stressful right? I met over one
hundred hungry people that have to feel this emotion every day of their life, struggling to provide enough food to make a meal, fulfill their hunger, and
stay healthy. On October 17th my senior year of high school I volunteered at a place called "Broad Street Ministry" a Christian based community
church. They have many community service opportunities that you can get involved with. I helped with feeding the homeless or those who cannot
afford to eat. A teacher at my high school introduced me to this opportunity and I took away a lot of memories I will cherish with this event.
On October 17th myself and five other students loaded a van with our health teacher and headed off to Philadelphia. Personally, I volunteered with
this event just for community service hours at first but after I left the event I walked away with more than just some hours that I could write on
paper, I walked away with life lessons and a heavy heart. We got off the bus at our destination around 9:00 AM to help set up the equipment we
were using for the day. As we set everything up I thought that we overdid it because we many tables pushed together forming a long line each table
full of food followed by coolers of soda and water. After we got done setting up we had a brief meeting with a head leader of the Broad Street
Ministry simply thanking us and giving us a run down of the day. I didn't think the event would last too long and no way there would be that many
people coming to get food. I put on the mandatory clothing items we had to wear and got in my place to help out. Noon is when everything started
and people started forming a line with plates in hand. More and more people got in the line and eventually we opened everything up to start
serving people. By the time we started serving there had to be at least 100 people in line, I have only ever saw this happen on TV or in magazines,
never personally. There was such a diverse group of people that came to this event. I noticed the way each persons face lit up when they filled their
plate with what they were served, even if they did

Narrative Essay Many teens consider community service a chore to complete in order to graduate or something to include on a college application.
Yes, I was one of those teens in my high school years, but because I didn't really know what community service was really about, and I hadn't
experienced it until my history class. With this opportunity I was able to experience this wonderful community service taught me more than what I
could ever give.
When I was in high school I had this history subject in which community service was a requirement to pass the class, because of this we had to

I walked there with three girls named Alicia, Veronica and Karla. They showed me where their beds where and gave me a whole tour around the
institution. I was impressed with all the beds they had, it was a huge wide room with many vertically arranged beds for each and every one of
them. I started on cleaning and washing all the bed quilts, and all the girls were willing to help within everything, I didn't feel it was a job. They all
seemed so cheerful and happy because somebody came to help them. Though, I was the one who got out learning things I hardly knew about. They all
looked so mature to me, but I only could see a little girl from the outside.
Then, I saw from across the room a very shy and quite little girl, she barely talked and interacted with the others. So, I went up to her, and asked
her name. "My name is Sofia," she said with tears in her eyes, "What's wrong?", I asked. The other girls told me she had just arrived to the
orphanage a few days ago. So, I grabbed her hand and went to the kitchen to give her a sandwich. She was amazed the whole sandwich was just for
her, and she couldn't stop thanking me. This shocked me a lot because there are many children out there that don't have a place to stay or anything to
eat, while we who have the privilege to have a place to call home, food always on the table, and most importantly a family, we take all that and
everybody for granted. We should place more value on all those

What Does Community Service Mean To Me
What does community service mean? Community service, to me, means bettering the community with volunteering at local places, business, or
helping the people themselves. Community services is very important due to most of the things in a community such as parks, food banks, etc. being
ran/used by the community.
I did my community service at Dr. Porter and Clark in Flat Rock during November 2016. They were doing their annual food drive for families that
couldn't afford thanksgiving in neighboring cities. The food drive needed help dividing up food for the families and organizing/making the drive
route. I chosed this service because as someone who actively uses food banks on month to month basis, even week to week sometimes it's nice to give

Benefits Of Community Service
In a college student's life, there are many obstacles that can keep students from doing what they love and enjoy; an after school job, homework and
social life. All of these may keep students from taking a look at their own communities. Some may never realize how much their neighborhood may
need help until they become the ones with the helping hands. The question is: Should college students be required to do Community service in order to
graduate? Community service refers to "service that a person performs for the benefit of his or her local community" and is done without pay,
according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Performing community service is not the same as volunteering since it is not always done
voluntarily. It may be done for a variety of reasons: Some students are required to complete community service as part of a class requirement, or in
order to graduate, or to become a member of certain organizations. Adults also participate in community service as a way to help others or if they are
ordered to do so by a judge. There is even government programs that offer free dental care in exchange for community service. Some Community
service examples include: tutoring children after school, collecting school supplies to donate, planting a school garden, visiting residents of a retirement
center, delivering meals to senior citizens, driving them to appointments, passing out food at a soup kitchen, collecting used clothes to be donated or
making first aids kits for

Community Service For College Education Essay
Getting a Free Education for Volunteering Your Time Performing public service as a student is like getting job experience before you graduate. Why
would any student be against having real world experience added to their resume before they graduate from college? Yet, there are some students who
are opposed to the requirement of public service in exchange for a free college education. However, education systems would be smart to add this
incentive because encouraging students to perform community service is a benefit to students, to the community, and to the entire country. Those who
criticize required public service in exchange for an education may claim that it is using them as free labor. Nothing could be further from the truth!

The surveys went on to detail wide support among all age groups, indicating that this program could make a huge impact on communities (Lopez).
Finally, those who oppose public service may also undervalue it by thinking that it is not a necessity, nor is it their civic duty. Even President Obama,
in his speech to Texas A & M students, stated that there are still people who feel that "service is nice, but it's not really essential" (Dunham). He also
pointed out that volunteerism is "the very fabric of our nation...the essence of our liberty – that we give back freely" (Dunham). Students who hesitate
to volunteer should know that our country didn't get where it is without effort and sacrifice. In conclusion, is volunteering in exchange for an education
really just giving communities free labor and take advantage of students? Is there enough support, and is it essential? It is clear through many sources,
including our highest leaders, that public service benefits the student just as much as it does the community. Ultimately, students gain not only an
education, but also the pride in being responsible to themselves, to their community and to their

"Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On
average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it.
Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies
(Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since
teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many
countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent
answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is
part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the
government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves
(Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more
and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the
Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

Community Service Persuasive Speech
General Purpose: To persuade the audience that community service should be implemented into high school requirements.
INTRODUCTION
Attention Gainer: According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Diego's homeless population is the fourth largest in the
United States (Schroeder, 2015).
Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, there are easy steps that we can all take to help this growing problem in our community.
Speaker Credibility (right to inform): I was in an organization called National Charity League which allowed me to volunteer around my community
throughout high school and I have also researched about how beneficial community service can be.
Thesis statement: To persuade the audience that there should be a required amount of hours that a student needs to volunteer before they can graduate
high school.
Preview your Main Points: Many students do not volunteer because it is not a requirement and therefore are uneducated about the benefits of
volunteering. Creating a mandatory amount of hours a student needs to complete will educate students about the benefits of volunteering as well as
benefit their communities.
II. BODY
Main Point # 1 (Problems/Harms) (this should be a full sentence) Many students are not motivated to volunteer and therefore in times of need like right
now, do not know how to help.
Information (sub–point): Volunteering is becoming less common and therefore our communities are not receiving as much support.
In Srebro's article, she states that "volunteer rates have been steadily declining for over a decade" (Srebro, 2016).
Information (sub–point): Because teens are not required to perform community service, many do not get into the habit of volunteering so in effect are
less likely to volunteer in the future.
"Fifty–four percent of adolescents who performed volunteer service in high school volunteered again 2 years later" (Planty & Regnier, 2003).
Information (sub–point): With all the natural disasters occurring across the county whether it be hurricanes or fires. We need volunteers and donations
now more than ever.
TRANSITION STATEMENT: Volunteering is becoming less popular because many people never volunteered when they were young so they did not get

The Benefits Of Community Service
School systems often require community service in order to graduate. However, students should be able to choose to volunteer or to not volunteer. This
decision should not be made by another individual. The people should decide to help others for themselves. Schools force students to take part in
community service, he or she will most likely gain nothing from the experience. The point in taking part of the activities is to help others while helping
yourself. Although community service can be extremely valuable in the development of both character and academics, the negative effects of forcing
students to participate by making such programs a graduation requirement offset the benefits.
Although community service hours are a requirement to graduate, the service can also create good outcomes. Volunteering boosts our morals, enhances
our personality, and helps the community (Source 2). By helping others our community comes together. Also, helping others creates a good mood in
the atmosphere. Community service gives the people helping experience, responsibility, and increase of ethics. Community service overall generates
great results for all who participate.
Successful adults statistically show that they agree with mandatory community service in order to graduate (Source 7). Of the people who agree, most
possess a GED or high school diploma. People tend to understand the value and the need to help society after several years. The years of maturity have
given the students' time to

What Does Community Service Mean To Me Essay
What does community service means to me? Well, to me community service mean helping your community become a better place. When you do
things for your neighborhood, it makes you feel like a better person. There are all sorts of activities you can do in your community. You can work
with children at school, work with the elderly, or help people that are less fortunate and make their day very special. Community Service is very
important because it gives you a chance to bond with the people in your neighborhood. It will also give you a chance to give back to your
community , you'll learn a lot from your experience, and you'll make a difference in someone's life. I recommend a lot of people to go out and make a

Community Service Essay

  • 1. Community Service Essay Community Service People complain everyday about the problems in this world. One of my complaints is about people who complain! I have a high respect for those who take actions to try to solve these problems. One major group which has to solve problems this is internationally recognized is Rotary International. Another group with similar goals is The Ruritan Foundation. Both of these groups have a website used by people all over the world to communicate information about their organization and how people can get involved. Ruritan focuses on the loval community and serving on a much smaller scale than Rotary. For Rotary, an overall emphasis is made on international service needs and diversity among people, as well as...show more content... Knowing this, it essentially chose one major issue that all the clubs can work on together and has a plan to follow through until its goal is met by putting most of its energy into it. This one extensive goal is to "globally eradicate the disease, polio" (About Rotary), appropriately titled PolioPlus. Each Rotary Club handles programs individually, but PolioPlus is a joint effort. With inquiry about the PolioPlus program on the webstie, I learned that though Rotary initiated this goal, other health organizations have actively supported it in collaboration, such as The United Nations Children's Fund and the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention. They began this effort in the 1980s raising over US$240 million. By 2005, Rotary hopes to have made this world polio–free (PolioPlus). A page on the website was created to recognize the reliable persons who have encouraged this program such as Bill Clinton, former US president, Bill Gates, from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Quotables), and the list goes on. More goals regarding PolioPlus can be found under the subheading "About PolioPlus." This internationally recognized organization began with only four people in Chicago, Illinois, (Rotary in Depth). In the article, Rotary in Depth, it is explained that they began rotating between members' offices, holding meetings. The

  • 3. Essay on Community Service Community Service I have always been involved in groups that perform community service projects. In fact, I was recently elected to as VP of Public Relations of the Student MOVE group. We are a group of 12 individuals that are the advisory committee for all of the community service organizations on campus, but we organize many alternative activities and events. I even did a service learning project for my Spanish class last semester with Cynthia Wells. I attended the Spanish mass every Sunday, and I was a greeter. I learned their culture and rituals while still attending the usual Catholic Mass. Upon learning that I had to do a service learning project for Ethics class, I immediately began brainstorming ideas. I decided I...show more content... Our group was able to come up with many great ideas on how to help out the organizations. The Denver group also met with one of the creators of AWOL Libby Rau. Libby was an amazing BV student who graduated last spring. She came up with the idea of the AWOL program on the ride home from working in Sioux Falls on a weekend retreat with Maggie Baker. Libby is currently working for Ameri–Corp at a non–profit organization called Brent's Place. This was the place for children with cancer to stay while going through their treatments. Libby was a great role model for our group and really inspired a few individuals such as Sara Upah. I can recall Sara saying that she really wants to work for a non–profit organization. Girls Inc. is located in downtown Denver. It is a place where girls can go after school to spend time with dedicated workers, which will help the girls with homework and keep them busy after school. It is designed for girls of low–income families which cannot afford daycare service or do not want their children being home alone after school. Girls Inc. got a 2 million dollar donation to build a facility next to the existing one. We helped pack up hundreds of boxes of material to be moved. We cleaned out old libraries, played with the children, and even got a tour of the new facility. Argumentative Essay On Community Service Community service is beneficial for personal and academic purposes, it helps to develop sense of social responsibility and increases "social connections" also community service help to improve the individual communication skills "Community service learning offers a unique and rewarding way for business students to reinforce communication capabilities while developing lifelong career and social skill (Mary L. Tucker et al. 1998) (Anne M. McCarthy et al. 1998) (John A. Hoxmeier et al. 1998) (Margarita M. Lenk et al 1998)." Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) is a non–profit organization that build, rent and sell houses for lower prices, to families in need, their goal is to help people to achieve their dream of having a house or rent a house with affordable payments. CHWC not only provide houses but they also provide financial counseling and homebuyer assistance, that help individuals to get better understanding of the process that need to do in order to buy a house. The time I was there I felt so welcome by the staff and also it helped me to improve my communication skills since I was at the front desk receiving calls, interacting with the clients, making appointments to meet with the counselors and receiving the donations from different associations. I had a lot of good experiences at CHWC, one of the best experiences I had at CHWC was when a family finally get their house,I was the one who inform them that we had some goods news for them, as soon the family arrived the counselor speak to them and it was great seeing the face of those people, they were so happy about it. Another good experience was when a man came into the office with flowers and a cake for one of the counselors, he was so thankful because he was a first time homebuyer, and the counselor form CHWC helped him and oriented him, it was a great experience, I feel like CHWC gives a lot to the community. • 5. Persuasive Essay About Community Service As an 18–year–old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of "tyranny" in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop theirmoral value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision. Volunteerismenables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to source 2, "community service teaches us through experience – about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in essence, about human being". While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a part of it. Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that makes the society a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay On Importance Of Community Service Importance of Community Service Community service is an important component of a business's social responsibility. Everyone belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to help those who cannot take care of themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep the community safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order to gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving back to the communities they are located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore, community service can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important business skills through community service, such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem solving. Community service can also be an excellent way for individuals to network with others and discover new business opportunities. • 7. Reflective Essay On Community Service Community service is very important. Not only is it a that is present to everyone, it is also present personally to you. I had not noticed this until an event so horrendous had to occur. When I was only in fourth grade, Hurricane Sandy swept across the East coast and truly opened my eyes. My whole house and belongings were destroyed, and I had to look at others for help. In this time of need, it truly shocked me by how much people were willing to help you and work with you to get you through these frightening times. Maria Gatta, on the same topic, always valued the topic of community service. She dedicated herself to always try and help others. And, I as came to realize, the help of others truly does make huge differences in everyone's...show more content... Though, I also know what the feeling is to have others there for you, giving the support and objects you need to start back up. I know what the feeling is to have those people––some you don't even know––there for you to help you through the process. Community service is such a precious thing that helps so much. Some people––some like me as I was younger––don't realize how important it truly is and how much it can truly help others. Along with my personal story, Maria Gatta was one of those people who were the complete opposite of me before the hurricane. She valued community service and helping others. Mrs. Gatta was one of the people that realized even the littlest things could help in their own way. I mean, I never despised the topic of helping others through community service, it's just that I didn't yet see the importance. She spent her whole life dedicated to try and please others through all her help including the work of community service; to be able to help other people was one thing she truly valued. Maria Gatta was constantly thinking about how she could always help others––never herself. She had understood the true importance of community service and how much it can really make a huge impact on others. The time when people need all this help the most is when they are struggling, and Mrs. Gatta really knew the significance of giving those people the support they needed in those times. She had such a big heart to actually Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Persuasive Essay About Community Service Community service is something that as a Junior we have to do till senior year. Community service is when you volunteer to help a non profit organization or a non profit event. This is an unpaid position. There are many benefits to having teenagers do community service. One benefit is that teenagers are learning to be more responsible. If they fully commit to the position that they have agreed to do that shows the responsibility of the individual. They could be doing sports or watching tv but they choose to help a specific organization which proves their responsibility. Something I have always loved doing was working with animals. Cats, dogs, snakes, fish, rabbits, it doesn't matter I love them all. To be able to work in an environment with animals you have to learn to love them all. I personally never enjoyed small dogs but they eventually grew on me because I knew they needed just as much love and attention as the big dogs do. For my community service I chose to volunteer at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm. I was definitely very excited to be able to work with the animals. I specifically work with the dogs. I have learned so much about them. The MSPCA is a very important organization and they do a lot of great thing. But they have also done some bad. They help the community by taking in animals that someone decided they didn't want, couldn't have, or found as a stray. There are many reasons people give up there animals. These animals are pretty well taken care of. We feed them, almost all dogs get a walk 2–4 times per day. To these animals this is a big deal. Many of these animals have never seen what it means to be loved. Its very sad but true. The first time I went to the MSPCA I was very annoyed. I had to sit thru a 4 hour orientation and then I had to follow someone around for another 3 hours TWO weeks later before I could do anything. At this point I was extremely annoyed because I have walked dogs from 5 Pound puppies to 180 pound Cane corso's. I noticed that a lot of the volunteers had no idea how to actually care for a dog when I first showed up. There was so much stupid going on and so disorganized. Because I was new we can only walk specific dogs. There are levels 1–4. Level 1 is dogs that don't pull, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Community Service Research Paper Community service in our society is starting to get a diminished appeal because it doesn't sound fun. Teenagers don't understand what they are doing for other people and our focused on the entertaining aspect of it. When it shouldn't be about that. It should be about helping people, but we are too concerned with ourselves. Required community service would some people good because it would teach them how to do it, but in a way it might ruin the purpose of it. This is because community service and service in general should be about the greater good, not because you are forced to do it to graduate. The point is that society has changed loads since the Counterculture Movement, in the sixties, but attitudes for this are still not the greatest. ...show more content... When he or she is tutoring a kid they can see the difference and growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Usually when he or she is tutoring a kid this happens because kids can retain information in incredible amounts. Somebody with a learning disability might have a different method of learning something then the person that is dyslexic. He or she may never know, but he or she needs to figure out what that stimulus is that helps them learn the best and apply it to how he or she might teach them. This is the thing that gives me the satisfaction is working with a student that has a learning disability. When he or she is working with them it is hard sometimes to come up with ways in which they will retain the information that he or she is throwing at them. Sometimes it can take a long time until they finally get it, but when they do is when the feeling of accomplishment comes in and he or she starts to appreciate the amount of work that they put in to help the child out. This is the part I like the best because it can be frustrating when the person isn't getting what he or she is trying to teach them, but once they get it it is the best feeling in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Importance Of Community Service Community service is an activity you do out of the kindness of your heart for the good of your community. In my opinion community service is a necessary thing for everyone to do because every community always needs work and without people willing to help the communities would be lacking. The community service activity I chose to do for this class is The Medical Mission At Home, hosted by St. Vincent. I decided to choose this community service activity because my mom is a pharmacist at St. Vincent so I have always been super involved with the hospital's community. St. Vincent holds this event once a year and it is to help the people without insurance or money to get the medical care they need. Some of the things they offer are doctors for people to see, pharmacists in case a doctor prescribes the patient some medicine, a foot washing station, a food pantry, free coats for the winter, a dentistry station, and free flu shots. I worked at the pharmacy section, some of the jobs I was assigned was to count the prescriptions, give the patient the pamphlet with drug information, and to tell people about the options they have to get their prescriptions filled once they ran out. This opportunity I had to participate with The Medical Mission at Home was pretty special because I got to see the difference I made in people's life. Many of the people who came to this event had never gotten any medical care in their lives and to see them finally getting some help was really great. It was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Why I Need Community Service Imagine struggling to afford the 'mandatory' three meals you're supposed to consume a day. It would be hard and stressful right? I met over one hundred hungry people that have to feel this emotion every day of their life, struggling to provide enough food to make a meal, fulfill their hunger, and stay healthy. On October 17th my senior year of high school I volunteered at a place called "Broad Street Ministry" a Christian based community church. They have many community service opportunities that you can get involved with. I helped with feeding the homeless or those who cannot afford to eat. A teacher at my high school introduced me to this opportunity and I took away a lot of memories I will cherish with this event. On October 17th myself and five other students loaded a van with our health teacher and headed off to Philadelphia. Personally, I volunteered with this event just for community service hours at first but after I left the event I walked away with more than just some hours that I could write on paper, I walked away with life lessons and a heavy heart. We got off the bus at our destination around 9:00 AM to help set up the equipment we were using for the day. As we set everything up I thought that we overdid it because we many tables pushed together forming a long line each table full of food followed by coolers of soda and water. After we got done setting up we had a brief meeting with a head leader of the Broad Street Ministry simply thanking us and giving us a run down of the day. I didn't think the event would last too long and no way there would be that many people coming to get food. I put on the mandatory clothing items we had to wear and got in my place to help out. Noon is when everything started and people started forming a line with plates in hand. More and more people got in the line and eventually we opened everything up to start serving people. By the time we started serving there had to be at least 100 people in line, I have only ever saw this happen on TV or in magazines, never personally. There was such a diverse group of people that came to this event. I noticed the way each persons face lit up when they filled their plate with what they were served, even if they did Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Narrative Essay On Community Service Ana Portillo Professor Russel Whitaker English Composition I November 13th, 2017 Narrative Essay Many teens consider community service a chore to complete in order to graduate or something to include on a college application. Yes, I was one of those teens in my high school years, but because I didn't really know what community service was really about, and I hadn't experienced it until my history class. With this opportunity I was able to experience this wonderful community service taught me more than what I could ever give. When I was in high school I had this history subject in which community service was a requirement to pass the class, because of this we had to complete 18 hours of community service during the semester. To be honest,...show more content... I walked there with three girls named Alicia, Veronica and Karla. They showed me where their beds where and gave me a whole tour around the institution. I was impressed with all the beds they had, it was a huge wide room with many vertically arranged beds for each and every one of them. I started on cleaning and washing all the bed quilts, and all the girls were willing to help within everything, I didn't feel it was a job. They all seemed so cheerful and happy because somebody came to help them. Though, I was the one who got out learning things I hardly knew about. They all looked so mature to me, but I only could see a little girl from the outside. Then, I saw from across the room a very shy and quite little girl, she barely talked and interacted with the others. So, I went up to her, and asked her name. "My name is Sofia," she said with tears in her eyes, "What's wrong?", I asked. The other girls told me she had just arrived to the orphanage a few days ago. So, I grabbed her hand and went to the kitchen to give her a sandwich. She was amazed the whole sandwich was just for her, and she couldn't stop thanking me. This shocked me a lot because there are many children out there that don't have a place to stay or anything to eat, while we who have the privilege to have a place to call home, food always on the table, and most importantly a family, we take all that and everybody for granted. We should place more value on all those Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. What Does Community Service Mean To Me What does community service mean? Community service, to me, means bettering the community with volunteering at local places, business, or helping the people themselves. Community services is very important due to most of the things in a community such as parks, food banks, etc. being ran/used by the community. I did my community service at Dr. Porter and Clark in Flat Rock during November 2016. They were doing their annual food drive for families that couldn't afford thanksgiving in neighboring cities. The food drive needed help dividing up food for the families and organizing/making the drive route. I chosed this service because as someone who actively uses food banks on month to month basis, even week to week sometimes it's nice to give Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Benefits Of Community Service In a college student's life, there are many obstacles that can keep students from doing what they love and enjoy; an after school job, homework and social life. All of these may keep students from taking a look at their own communities. Some may never realize how much their neighborhood may need help until they become the ones with the helping hands. The question is: Should college students be required to do Community service in order to graduate? Community service refers to "service that a person performs for the benefit of his or her local community" and is done without pay, according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Performing community service is not the same as volunteering since it is not always done voluntarily. It may be done for a variety of reasons: Some students are required to complete community service as part of a class requirement, or in order to graduate, or to become a member of certain organizations. Adults also participate in community service as a way to help others or if they are ordered to do so by a judge. There is even government programs that offer free dental care in exchange for community service. Some Community service examples include: tutoring children after school, collecting school supplies to donate, planting a school garden, visiting residents of a retirement center, delivering meals to senior citizens, driving them to appointments, passing out food at a soup kitchen, collecting used clothes to be donated or making first aids kits for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Community Service For College Education Essay Getting a Free Education for Volunteering Your Time Performing public service as a student is like getting job experience before you graduate. Why would any student be against having real world experience added to their resume before they graduate from college? Yet, there are some students who are opposed to the requirement of public service in exchange for a free college education. However, education systems would be smart to add this incentive because encouraging students to perform community service is a benefit to students, to the community, and to the entire country. Those who criticize required public service in exchange for an education may claim that it is using them as free labor. Nothing could be further from the truth! ...show more content... The surveys went on to detail wide support among all age groups, indicating that this program could make a huge impact on communities (Lopez). Finally, those who oppose public service may also undervalue it by thinking that it is not a necessity, nor is it their civic duty. Even President Obama, in his speech to Texas A & M students, stated that there are still people who feel that "service is nice, but it's not really essential" (Dunham). He also pointed out that volunteerism is "the very fabric of our nation...the essence of our liberty – that we give back freely" (Dunham). Students who hesitate to volunteer should know that our country didn't get where it is without effort and sacrifice. In conclusion, is volunteering in exchange for an education really just giving communities free labor and take advantage of students? Is there enough support, and is it essential? It is clear through many sources, including our highest leaders, that public service benefits the student just as much as it does the community. Ultimately, students gain not only an education, but also the pride in being responsible to themselves, to their community and to their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Community Service Scholarship Essay As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire Department during carnival day setup, participating in the St. Marys Light Up Night by dancing, and Christmas caroling to local residents. I also participated in a zombie /princess Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. "Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers...show more content... Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Community Service Persuasive Speech General Purpose: To persuade the audience that community service should be implemented into high school requirements. INTRODUCTION Attention Gainer: According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, San Diego's homeless population is the fourth largest in the United States (Schroeder, 2015). Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, there are easy steps that we can all take to help this growing problem in our community. Speaker Credibility (right to inform): I was in an organization called National Charity League which allowed me to volunteer around my community throughout high school and I have also researched about how beneficial community service can be. Thesis statement: To persuade the audience that there should be a required amount of hours that a student needs to volunteer before they can graduate high school. Preview your Main Points: Many students do not volunteer because it is not a requirement and therefore are uneducated about the benefits of volunteering. Creating a mandatory amount of hours a student needs to complete will educate students about the benefits of volunteering as well as benefit their communities. II. BODY Main Point # 1 (Problems/Harms) (this should be a full sentence) Many students are not motivated to volunteer and therefore in times of need like right now, do not know how to help. Information (sub–point): Volunteering is becoming less common and therefore our communities are not receiving as much support. In Srebro's article, she states that "volunteer rates have been steadily declining for over a decade" (Srebro, 2016). Information (sub–point): Because teens are not required to perform community service, many do not get into the habit of volunteering so in effect are less likely to volunteer in the future. "Fifty–four percent of adolescents who performed volunteer service in high school volunteered again 2 years later" (Planty & Regnier, 2003). Information (sub–point): With all the natural disasters occurring across the county whether it be hurricanes or fires. We need volunteers and donations now more than ever. TRANSITION STATEMENT: Volunteering is becoming less popular because many people never volunteered when they were young so they did not get

  • 20. The Benefits Of Community Service School systems often require community service in order to graduate. However, students should be able to choose to volunteer or to not volunteer. This decision should not be made by another individual. The people should decide to help others for themselves. Schools force students to take part in community service, he or she will most likely gain nothing from the experience. The point in taking part of the activities is to help others while helping yourself. Although community service can be extremely valuable in the development of both character and academics, the negative effects of forcing students to participate by making such programs a graduation requirement offset the benefits. Although community service hours are a requirement to graduate, the service can also create good outcomes. Volunteering boosts our morals, enhances our personality, and helps the community (Source 2). By helping others our community comes together. Also, helping others creates a good mood in the atmosphere. Community service gives the people helping experience, responsibility, and increase of ethics. Community service overall generates great results for all who participate. Successful adults statistically show that they agree with mandatory community service in order to graduate (Source 7). Of the people who agree, most possess a GED or high school diploma. People tend to understand the value and the need to help society after several years. The years of maturity have given the students' time to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
