6. Chairman’s Message
3
The past term flew by in the blink of an eye.
Back in 2015, I was fairly new to the Youth
Executive Committee when I took on the role of
Chairman of the YEC. It was an exciting, yet
daunting new chapter, but eventually rewarding.
I was thrust into the thick of things very quickly
and the learning curve was very steep.
Looking back, I don’t regret taking the plunge as
I have gained so much in these 2 years -
leadership opportunities, friendships,
development of interpersonal skills and seeing
tangible positive change in the residents who
have benefitted from our programmes.
It brings me great joy to see the personal
development of the members over the course of
the term. Many have stepped up to form working
committees to organise YEC events, or even
GRC-level events.
I am deeply thankful for the opportunities I got, the
friends I have made and feedback from
participants of our programmes. Over the course
of 2 years, they have shaped me to be a better
friend, volunteer and leader. I would like to thank
all the YEC members who have contributed to the
success of events the YEC has organised such as
Project Clean Paint Share I & II, Friendship Date,
National Day Observance Ceremony, Halloween:
Zombies on the Run, Shoot Lah! and Sengkang
Central Year-End Countdown 2016 to name a few.
I look forward to forging new bonds and
strengthening old friendships in the pursuit of the
betterment of the Sengkang Central community.

12. Youth Club Report
9
Keeping in line to PAYM’s approach of “Youth for
Youth, Youth for Community,” our committee
actively engages fellow youths to plan activities
and participate in events that cater to both
youths and the wider community. Our
committee has also reached out to more youths
via our social media platforms, including
Facebook and Instagram.
At the beginning of the term, we launched the
Project Clean, Paint, Share! series in an effort to
reach out to the less-privileged. Our volunteers
visited Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home
to build pavements and construct an eco-garden
for the children. We also carried out spring-
cleaning for less-privileged families and
purchased essential items for them. In addition,
our committee collaborated with other YECs in
Pasir Ris-Punggol to co-organize YOUths Care –
A Gift of Love. Through this event, we helped to
purchase and assemble new furniture for the
less-privileged families in the region.
Our committee has actively organized events
that empower youths and engage the wider
community. Such events include Sengkang
Central National Day Observance Ceremonies,
and Sengkang Central Year-End Countdown to
2017. Last year, our committee took up the
challenge to organize Halloween 2016 –
Zombies on the Run, which saw the efforts of 80
volunteers in setting up the zombie maze from
scratch. Our hard work paid off when 700
participants turned up for the event.
In giving youths a chance to know each other, our
committee organized Friendship Date to promote
social networking among youths through a game
of laser tag and buffet dinner. This year, we
introduced Shoot Lah! 2017 to allow youth
volunteers to forge friendships via a game of
archery tag.
Our committee has recently taken ownership of
the level 3 study room at Sengkang CC. Our
interest group, Volunteers in Action (VIA), ensures
that the room remains in a favorable condition and
is conducive for users. We have also received
encouraging feedback regarding the provision of
welfare packs to users during the exam periods.
As part of our latest initiative, board games rental
service is now available at the Student Activity
Corner, located at Sengkang CC’s hardcourt.
Please feel free to utilize our facilities with your
friends.
Overall, it has been an enriching journey for all of
us in the committee. A big thank you to our youth
volunteers, partners, sponsors, and everyone else
who have supported us in one way or another. We
look forward to seeing you in the next term!
