WELCOME TO
QCOP 2015!
Hello, and welcome to QCOP 2015!
On behalf of our team, and all the people who have been
involved with QCOP over the past seven years, thank you
for joining us.
As one of QCOP’s distinguished guests, we hope you leave
this weekend invigorated with a greater understanding
of philanthropy and how it applies to you in the world we
share. Immerse yourself in discussions, throw yourself into
workshops,meettheDelegatesChallengeheadonandreally
connect with the people here. There is power in numbers,
and your actions and experiences this weekend have the
potential to impact the rest of your life. Let it happen.
Our team believes in smiling at strangers on the street,
giving more than receiving and being responsible global
citizens. We are humbled to have been recognized with the
Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award from the South
Eastern Ontario Chapter of the Association of Fundraising
Professionals. And we want this year’s conference to be
the best one yet. Our executive has worked tirelessly and
passionately and we are so proud of them. The past nine
months have been a true labour of love and the two of us
are grateful that we have had the chance to work alongside
them.
5. 5
This year’s conference theme is CONNECT - which to us
is all about bringing together people and ideas. We want to
connect you to things that you are passionate about, and
help you find others who share your vision for a brighter
tomorrow and can help you challenge the status quo. This
concept has been embedded in every item on the agenda
for QCOP 2015. Your time is valuable and we hope that
you make the most of this weekend by creating lasting
relationships and learning new skills to help you tackle
tomorrow’s problems.
As Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the
world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has”.
We are thrilled to have you here, and we encourage you
to make the most of this weekend by embracing every
opportunity to get involved and CONNECT!
All the best, and all our love,
Heather Evans & River Habermehl Hatt
Co-Chairs, Queen’s Conference on Philanthropy 2015

ABOUT QCOP
The Queen’s Conference on Philanthropy (QCOP) was born after two Queen’s
undergraduates discovered their mutual love for mankind and voiced their desire
to help students realize that they are truly capable of making a difference. Big or
small, their goal was to promote that this difference can be made simply by building
a positive community through giving one’s time and talent to a purpose they are
passionate about. Based on the premise of inspiring a passion in students to discover
a cause personal to them, QCOP’s inaugural conference took place in 2008. Now in
its 7th year of existence, QCOP is the first undergraduate conference of its kind, and
has grown into a forum for discussion and innovation based on our founders vision of
creating a hub of change-oriented dialogue for young leaders across the nation.
The conference aims to educate, inspire and empower top undergraduate delegates
nationwide to make a difference in today’s world. QCOP brings students together
from various universities all across Canada to provide a rich experience for passionate
delegates. Conference delegates will be exposed to various insights on philanthropy,
its evolving role in society, and learn about the endless number of ways they can
personally get involved and make an impact. After the conclusion of the conference,
students will leave not only inspired, but empowered, capable and ready to make a
difference.
The QCOP 2015 theme is CONNECT. It is a
tribute to the rapid development of technology
that has brought people together, and is meant to
emphasize how we can all relate to one another by
pursuing what we are passionate about, and finding
others who share this passion for a common cause.
The theme underlines the goal that we would like
to achieve with QCOP: connecting students with
other students who have similar passions, linking
them with industry professionals with a wealth of
experience to help guide them, and arming them
with resources they can use to take action. Being
connected means that a single action can have an
impact on more than the instigator. It also means
that the impact is not restricted geographically.
At QCOP, we want students to recognize that to
make a difference, we should take individual action,
but we must also support one another. After all,
we’re all in this together, and we’re all connected.
