Personal Statement

1. WhenI was younger,myfamilyalwaysassumedmybrotherwouldbe the creative one.Inhindsight,
theywere completelywrong.Growingup,Ihadno ideawhatI wantedtodo, but one thingI was
sure about isI loveddrawing.Itwaseitheralwayshorsesorbirds,thoughIlike tothinkthat now I
have branchedouta bitmore.Havingsaidthat, I do runan instagramaccountwhere Idraw horses,
so itseemssome thingsneverchange.OnthisaccountI have an active following,withover1000
followersinjusttwomonths,alongsideanaverage of 40+ commentsperpost,and the bestpart -
paidcommissions.ThismeansthatthoughIdon’thave a part time jobdue to lack of openingsin
walkingdistance andaglobal pandemic,Istill have adecentincome.ThisalsomeansI’mvery
capable of workingtoa deadline,andalreadyhave alotof experience workingwithreal life clients,
some withveryhighexpectationsthatI’ve beenable tomeeteverytime. Ipride myself onmywork,
and if I feel like it’snotgoodenough,Iwill startagain,insteadof givingthe clientapiece of art that
I’mnot happywith.
The onlytime I’ve evercome close tohandinginbelow expectedwork wasduringlockdownfor
COVID-19,and eventhenIstill gota meritinmy firstyear.I’mproud of myself fornotgivingup
despite the difficultcircumstances.Anotherexample of thiswasmygrade in DesignTechnology.Our
classneverlearntthe theorypart of the GCSE due to timingissues,sowe hadtoteach itto
ourselves.Iputthe workinand endedupgettingan8. I enjoyedDTa lotdue to it’screativityaspect,
and I’ve foundthatthe courseworkforDT has a similarstructure toCreative Media.Thisisan
example of howIam able to applyskillsacrossthe board,andhave alwaysbeen goodat something
whenI focus.Anotherexample of thisisthe factI got highgradesinmaths (8) andscience (7 6),
despite notwantingtogodowna more academicroute.ThisshowsI’mveryversatile atwhatI can
do,and there’snothingholdingme back.
Last year increative mediaIexperimentedwithgraphics,filmandanimation,completingall toa
goodstandard. I learnedhowtouse PhotoshopandAuditioneffectively,andIknow how to use both
Adobe PremierandSonyVegasefficiently.ThisshowsIcanadjustand learnnew skillsquitequickly,
as I was completelyunfamilliarwithAdobe programmesbeforelastyear. Ihave alsobeenlearning
the more tediousside of the course,coursework,andimrpovingonhow Ipresentmyideas. Ihave
become more specialisedinthe subjectandnow know more abouthow to achieve highergrades
throughboth productionandwrittenwork.Forthisyear,I wantto again focusonfilm/graphics,like
producinga shortfilmandmakingartwork togo along side it.ThisincorporatestwothingsthatI am
bothgood at, andenjoy.Iwant the workto include linkstofeminisminamodernsociety,asthe
topicof fightingnormalisedsexismandmysogynyisveryimportanttome.
As a youngwomenina mostlymale stereotypedindustry, Iwanttouse my platformtospeakup and
make sure I’m takenseriously,wetherthat’satjobinterviewsordayto day work.I am extremely
capable,andI want to prove that throughwhat I do andmake,and I am preparedtowork forit.
Ideally,I’dwantajob ineithergraphicsorfilm.I’dlove tobe a scriptwritersome day,or a concept
artistfor games or filmcharacters.ThismeansI’ll mostlikely have toworkmywayup frombeingan
intern,butI firmlybelieve I’mgoodenoughto doit fora decentjob,if nothigher. AftereducationI
wantto try work as soonas possible inorder tostart payingoff billsordebt.Icoulddo thisby
becomingapaidinternif possible,orbyworkingasa waitressorcashierwhile gettingwork
experience inafieldI’minterestedin.Itwouldbe difficult,but I’mpreparedtodowhateverittakes
to getto where I wantto be.

In conclusion,IbelieveI wouldbe a greatadditiontoyourUniversity,andknow youwouldsee just
howmuch I belongthere.Ihave a lotof unique qualitiestome, andhave botha goodworkethic
alongside beingnaturallygifted.Inevertake anythingforgranted,andwill workhardtolive upto
the gradesand experiencesthatI’ve alreadyhad.
