Water sustainability

4. ● More than 1 billion people around the world do not
have access to clean water
● Within the next ten seconds more than 500,000
litres of water in Egypt will be wasted
● If there are one million homes with just one
leaking tap, we are wasting more than 3 million
litres of water per day.
5. ● There are women and children in Africa that walk
four hours every day to reach a clean water source
● Within the last 20 seconds a child has died
through drinking polluted water
● Water problems increase everyday along with
lack of water security and epidemic diseases such
as Hepatitis C and Bilharzia
6. ● Egypt has a water crisis due to pollution and the
increasing population
● This will be serious by 2025
● The quality of the water in Egypt is threatened by
untreated industrial and agricultural waste
7. ● 38 million people drink polluted water in Egypt
● Pollutants that enter the water system are
estimated to be 4.5 million tons per year
● Almost 100,000 people are diagnosed with cancer
per year, and 15,000 get kidney failure and other
diseases due to polluted water
8. ● The Aswan High Dam has reduced the water flow
of the River Nile and trapped nutrient rich silt
that once fertilised the country’s farms
● As compensation, the farmers use fertilisers
that increase the water pollution
● The polluted water reaches the Mediterranean
and Red Sea
