The following slides are an introduction to the Concierge desk
computer tutorial. As you review them, please be thinking about
how you can contribute to meeting our mission and goals and how
you might grow from your work experience.
1.Check the Equipment check log
Note if any items are missing, broken, or have been
rented out of the concierge desk past their rental
period in the comments section
Equipment check log
1. Write the date and time that your shift begins in column all the
way to the left.
2. go through each item on the equipment check log and compare
it to your CD control sheet to ensure that all items are
accounted for during your shift.
a. If you notice a discrepancy between the items listed on the check log,
the items rented out on the control sheet, and the items currently in
the concierge desk, notify staff/a manager AT X-5851
3. Initial in the column on the right after every item in the
corresponding row has been accounted for
4. If equipment is out being used, write “out” in the corresponding
box
5. If equipment is damaged, write “ooo” or “out of order” in the
corresponding box
6. A list of all equipment found in the concierge desk is
posted on the cabinet in the back room, across from the
bikes
a. If equipment is missing or damaged, call a manager/staff at x-
5851. If staff/ a manager is unavailable, inform the patron who
returned the items that they might have to pay a fee
7. You must physically leave the desk to check the printer
paper levels in copa at the beginning of your shift. Do not
assume that the person before you has done so.
a. We only add printer paper and change printer ink. If students
have any other issues they must contact cit at ex-5588.
Equipment check log
Wiki >>> cd control sheet
• When signing into the wiki you will be prompted to enter your
Geneseo username and password
• This will allow you to access your Concierge Desk Control
Sheet, along with many other ESL resources
• Make sure to fill out all columns of the cd Control sheet and
sign your full name when signing materials in and out of the
concierge desk
– Record the Date and time & ONly rent equipment out to
patrons with geneseo ids
– Ask for customer name, e-mail address, phone number
– record the department number of the rented materials along with
the item number (if no item number, record the number of
materials rented, ex: 1 tennis racquet & 2 tennis balls)
Student Organization key sign out
1. ENSURE the student has permission to sign out the key using the
“student organization key sign out”
a. If the student is not listed, do not sign out the key (If the student is
listed but has not provided an e-mail address or phone number on
their organization’s key sign-out list, do not sign out the key)
b. Students can get on their organization’s key sign-out list through their
org. president who can add them to the list. We cannot add people to
the list ourselves.
c. If you have any issues, CALL A MANAGER/staff AT X-5851
2. Give the patron the key, record the date & time of key rental, and ask
them to verify their:
• full name (We only accept geneseo ids as proof of identification, do
not accept licenses)
• email address
• cell phone number
– If online info is inaccurate, it must changed online through org.
president before keys can be signed out
“What’s happening in the Union”
• aka “CU Events”
• Allows you to be informed on the times and locations of
Union events (people may ask where an event is located
and what time it begins)
• Based on the organization hosting the event, it may
indicate which keys you may have to sign out later on
• Gives you an idea of all the great things that happen in
the union on a daily basis!
Today’s publicity reservations
• Allows viewing of publicity currently reserved in the Union
– Only sign out supplies to organizations who have the
corresponding publicity space reserved
• Ex.) if an organization asks to rent out chalk and there
are not any chalkboards currently reserved in the Union
under their name, you would not issue them supplies
– The same rules apply for Painted wall paints, window
markers/black sandwich board markers
– If issues arise, CALL A MANAGER/staff AT X-5851
• If materials are returned damaged, contact staff/ a manager
immediately
• If you accidentally sign out the wrong materials, contact a cu manager
so that they can correct the issue
• If someone asks how to reserve publicity spaces in the union, direct
them to http://www.geneseo.edu/union/publicity
Who can rent out which publicity supplies?
• Ensure that the organization requesting materials has actually
reserved the publicity area by first checking “today’s publicity
reservations”
• organizations may have up to 3 types of publicity reserved at
once, so ensure that they use the correct materials in the correct
spaces
– For example, Stress that markers are to only be used on the
painted windows or swinging blackboard, and not on
chalkboards...painted wall paints may only be used on painted
wall, etc...
Chalkboard reservation = Rent out chalk to patrons
Painted window/swinging blackboard reservations = rent out markers
Reservations for the painted wall = rent out painted wall paints
Overarching Goals:
1. To provide opportunities for students to learn, interact,
lead, reflect, program, question and have fun.
(How College Affects Students p. 647)
2. To provide a safe and inviting place where the college
community can gather to engage and flourish.
Do your best (Challenge).
Ask for help when you need it (Support).
Smile and have fun (Service to others).
