3. INTRODUCTION
Today as a result of health care organizations' efforts to
provide high quality and cost-effective care with
minimum staffing, nurses who are the most crowded
professional group in an organization are forced to
struggle with irregular schedules.
4. Cont..
This leads to impaired quality of sleep among nursing
staff resulting in physical and mental health conditions,
which in turn reflects their professional performance
and thus may jeopardize patient safety.
5. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
A Study to assess the sleep quality of nurses and its
influencing factors
12. PITTSBURG SLEEP QUALITY
INDEX
This scale consist of 7 components and 18 individuals
items. each component is rated between 0 and 3 and a
globle sleep quality score is calculated by adding the
seven components scores.
13. HOSPITALANXIETY AND
DEPRESSION SCALE
This scale consist of 14 questions seven of which are
related to anxiety(odd numbers) and seven to
depression(even numbers). each item is scored from 0 to
3.
14. EPWORTH SLEEPINESS
SCALE
This scale evaluate the daytime sleepiness by measuring
the likelihood of falling asleep or being sleepy in eight
different situation of day life. each item is scored
between 0 and 3.
15. FATIGUE SEVERITY SCALE
Each item on this 9 item scale is scored between 1 and
7(1= strongly disagree and 7=strongly agree) and the
average of 9 items gives the total score.
16. INCLUSION CRITERIA
• Nurses who filled out the questionnarie completely
and correctly
• Nurses who accepted to participate in the study
28. CONCLUSION
The result of this study indicate that quality of sleep is
poor in approximately twe-third of nurses and it is
negatively affected by advanced age, working in night
shift and increased anxiety abd fatigue level. we
recommended that the working hours of nursing staff
are scheduled according to national and international
guidelines, night shift work is reduced based on
professional
29. CONT……
Seniority and thus nurses age and the sleep
quality of nursing staff is assessed, an action
plan to maintain physical and psychological well
being of nurses is devised and similar studies are
conducted on nurses who work in different shift
schedules through the nation

33. INTRODUCTION
Cataract occurs when the clear lens of the eye becomes
cloudy, leading to gradual loss of vision which can
ultimately lead to blindness. Globally blindness affects
approximately 45 million people .Cataract visual
impairment can result in difficulties with daily living
activities. A Survey conducted by National Eye Survey
as reported in National Eye Database year 2009 shows
that the prevalence of cataract in the population over 40
years of age was 5.7%
34. Cont…
Cataracts cannot be prevented they can be treated by
highly cost effective surgery which leads to good
visual outcomes indicates that visual acuity
outcomes following cataract However, evidence
from population based surveys report the visual
outcome of surgery are not always as good as they
might be report
35. CONT….
of National Eye Database (2010) reported that the
number of patients for cataract operation is increasing
every year. There were 12,798 patients registered in the
year 2002 which is increased to 28,506 patients in the
year 2010.The mean age for cataract surgery is 64 to 65
years. It is also reported that 42.6% cataract surgeries
were done at day care centers in the year 2008, 47.2% in
2009 and 51.5% in 2010.
36. Cont…
Over the years, the number of techniques have been
evolved in cataract surgery include intra and extra
capsular cataract extraction, phaco-section,
sandwich, phaconit, phaco-emulsification etc. The
main motto of revolution is to develop safe and
successful procedure. The incidence of
complications has significantly decreased with
better technique and preoperative evaluation.
However, some immediate and later complications
can occur
37. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
A study to assess the knowledge regarding post cataract
surgical care and complications among the patients
38. OBJECTIVES
1 . To assess the knowledge of patient regarding
care after post cataract surgery.
2. To educate the patient regarding care and
complications.
45. INCLUSION CRITERIA
• Patients were included male and female aged
between 40 to 70 years.
• Surgery done for uniocular or binocular
cataract has undergone any type of catract
surgery

52. RESULT
All subjects knew that swimming was not allowed, tap
water can be used for cleaning the eyes. This research
shows that, There were 43(72%) of them, who
responded that they can use the eye drops according to
doctor’s advice while 17(28%) responded that it can be
used until all medication in the container is ove
53. CONT…
About 52 (87%) agreed they should not ignore the
post-operative signs and symptoms of complications
and 5(8%) of them was not sure about It. 3(5%) of them
were not respond. The findings in this research, shows
that the most of participants did not have adequate
knowledge on risk.
54. Cont…
• The limitation is that the sample size for this research
was not large enough to generalize the findings.
Further research could be conducted among larger
population to generalize the findings.
55. CONCLUSION
The following conclusions were drawn based on the
findings of the study. The study reveals that majority 27
(45%) subjects had poor knowledge, 22 (36.6%)
subjects had moderately knowledge and 11 (18%)
subjects had adequate knowledge.
56. CONT…
Thus must take action by educating patients
continuously to update knowledge on regular
follow-up after cataract surgery for preventing
further complications and blindness. The finding
of the study will be useful in developing more
effective education strategies in near future
