Chronic liver abscess can develop from injury to the liver or infection spreading from other sites. Common causes include bacterial infection originating elsewhere in the body that reaches the liver through the bloodstream, or infection traveling up the bile ducts from the colon. Symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, nausea, weight loss, and jaundice in some cases. Diagnosis is made through blood tests showing elevated white blood cell count and other liver enzymes, along with imaging scans that detect abnormalities in the liver.
