India has a long history of education dating back 2600 years. It was home to some of the earliest universities including Takshashila, the first university in the world. Currently, India has over 900 universities including 399 state universities, 48 central universities and 334 private universities. Some prominent modern Indian institutions include AIIMS, IITs, IIMs and Anna University. Education in India is regulated and accredited by organizations like UGC, NAAC, NBA, AICTE and professional councils for different fields. Fee structures vary significantly between private and government institutions while scholarships are available from various sources.

INDIA: Introduction
India, officially the Republic of India is a country in South Asia. It is
the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country (with
over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Indian economy in
2017 was nominally worth US$2.454 trillion; it is the sixth-largest economy by
market exchange rates, and is, at US$9.489 trillion, the third-largest
by purchasing power parity. With its average annual GDP growth rate of 5.8%
over the past two decades, and reaching 6.1% during 2011–12. India is one of
the world's fastest-growing economies and is considered a newly industrialized
country. India is nuclear weapons state and regional power, it has the third
largest standing army in the world and ranks fifth in military expenditure among
nations. India is a federal republic governed under a parliamentary system and
consists of 29 states and 7 union territories. It is a pluralistic, multilingual and
multi-ethnic society and is also home to a diversity of wildlife in a variety of
protected habitats.

Accreditation Bodies in Education system of India
University Grants Commission (UGC) is responsible for coordination,
determination and maintenance of standards, release of grants.
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous
institutions established by the University Grants Commission. NAAC’s
responsibility is to assess and accredit institutions of higher education and certify
Institutions by grading as A+, A, B+ and B grade.
National Board of Accreditation (NBA) is an autonomous body with effect from
7th January 2010, with the objective of Assurance of Quality and Relevance of
Education, especially of the programs in professional and technical disciplines, i.e.,
Engineering and Technology, Management, Architecture, Pharmacy and
Hospitality, through the mechanism of accreditation of programs offered by
technical institutions.
