This tag is suited for tracking high value assets throughout the supply chain. GlobalTag is capable of tracking an asset with or without active RFID infrastructure. GlobalTag includes a Satellite Modem for communications anywhere RFID readers are not available. When RFID infrastructure is not present, GlobalTag automatically uploads data via satellite. GlobalTag provides GPS location coordinates with every satellite transmission. Unlike other satellite tags, GlobalTag has active RFID functionality, so battery power is not expended on satellite communications when the tag is within range of an active reader. GlobalTag operates through the Globalstar Simplex Data Service, a low-cost Low-Earth Orbital (LEO) satellite service. The LEO satellite service is well-suited for asset and shipment tracking applications. LEO constellations provide communications coverage over most of the globe, and are inherently resistant to interference caused by overhead obstructions. GlobalTag transmits to the satellite system on a periodic basis that can be configured. Service plans are available that provide monthly service set transmission rates.

GlobalTag is constructed to survive harsh environments, and to provide reliable data to RFID networks. GlobalTag employs state-of-the-art power management technologies that extend the life of its replaceable battery to up to three years.
