5. Electronic Music
Electronic music is roughly recent, and started to become popular in the
late 1990’s – early 2000’s. Dubstep is the most popular sub-genre of
Electronic music, and uses a computer and the sources within it to make
the music. This type of music doesn’t really focus on words as it does the
beat/tune of the music, and uses that to get people to enjoy. Artists such
as Skrillex and Diplo are the most famous Dubstep artists, and even
formed a band together called Jack Ü. They’ve done famous collaborations
with many people, including Justin Bieber, creating “Where Are Ü Now”

Reggae music originated from Jamaica, and started to grow popularity in
the late 1960’s. The lyrics from the music are very inspired by Rastafarian

recognised authors to date, including the most popular folk singer, Bob
Dylan. There are also many types of sub-genre of folk music, with

8. Comparing and Contrasting
Similarities Differences
Dubstep And Rap
• Both rely on a interesting
tune/beat to get the audience in,
remind them of the song, and
make it catchy.
• Both of the genres can be quite
quick, with dubstep tunes being
quite quick and heavy, and
rappers rapping in a very fast way.
• While dubstep focuses heavily on
the music of the song, rap focuses
heavily on the lyrical side of the
song, where you would only hear
words in a dubstep song if it was a
remix.
• Rap usually has a deep meaning,
whereas dubstep's focus is to
entertain.
